ISM Professors can't even conduct an Open house and they say they have better tech culture.

Today I decided to teach ISM a lesson for their arrogance.

Eversince I joined JOSAA Groups these ISMites have been answering to each and every question like a Pokemon.

Ask them MnC in Mandi vs Dhanbad vs Jodhpur vs Patna

And like a pokemon of Dhanbad type they'll reply "Dhanbad Dhanbad.".

Sorry but this frustration led me to irritate people in their open house.

These poor guys didn't even know how to use Teams.

Everyone was presenter in meeting.

I used this opportunity and I know I have pressed remove button more than 500 times in the span of 1.5 hours.

A proff who was traveling and was about to give a presentation, as soon as he greeted I pressed mute first and when the board says "you are muted." At that moment I remove them.

Whosoever was raising voices in JOSAA chat group was removed.

Whosoever was raising voices in Teams Chat was removed.

Whosoever unmuted themselves to ask a doubt in the Open house was first muted and then again classically removed.

They finally had to switch to zoom to continue their open house.

It was just pure frustration nothing else. Baaki Love you all ISMites love you. May God give you better eyes to look at other colleges and a better brain to analyse actual data of comparison.

Get ready seniors

If I come here this year, all ragging's going to be finished by the end of the first year.

I have been made aware of some BS "sir/ma'am" culture that's been propagating here. None of that shit is going to continue.

My team and I will publicly deal with such seniors.

Help from CSE seniors

While going through the CSE undergraduate curriculum, I noticed that there doesn’t seem to be a programming course in the first semester. Is this correct?
So will there be any need to learn a programming language before coming to college??

IIT Dhanbad Petroelum Engineering

I have AIR 11,5XX in JEE Advanced 2026 and I'm trying to finalize my preference order.

From the IIT options available at my rank, one branch that stands out is Petroleum Engineering at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. From what I've seen, the placement records seem quite good compared to many other non-circuital branches available to me.

At the same time, I may also get options like:

  • NIT Rourkela Electrical Engineering
  • MNNIT Allahabad Electrical Engineering
  • MNIT Jaipur Electrical Engineering
  • ECE in some other good NITs

My confusion is about long-term prospects.

  1. How good is Petroleum Engineering from ISM Dhanbad in terms of career growth and future opportunities?
  2. Is the oil & gas sector expected to remain strong over the next 15–20 years?
  3. Would you choose ISM Petroleum over Electrical/ECE at top NITs?
  4. For someone without a strong preference for any specific branch, which option offers the best combination of placements, career flexibility, and future growth?

Thanks!

IIT Dhanbad (Mining / Mining Machinery) vs. Tier 2 NIT Circuital (ECE/EE) | Target: IIM MBA or Foreign MS

Hey everyone,

I am finalizing my JoSAA choices and need some brutal honesty from seniors or alumni. I am choosing between:

  1. IIT Dhanbad (ISM): Mining Engineering or Mining Machinery Engineering.
  2. Tier 2 NITs (Nagpur, Jamshedpur, KKR, Durgapur, etc.): ECE or Electrical Engineering.

My Goal: I do not want a pure software/coding job right after college. My long-term plan is either a Master's from foreign university or an MBA from a top IIM. I just need a decent campus placement safety net (₹11–15 LPA) before making that transition.

My Specific Questions:

  1. Workload & GPA Cushion: To get into an IIM or a good university abroad, a high CGPA (8.5+) is non-negotiable. I know NIT circuital branches are notoriously high-stress and low-scoring. Is it significantly easier to maintain a 9+ CGPA in Mining or Mining Machinery at IIT Dhanbad?
  2. Mining vs. Mining Machinery: Mining has massive legacy at ISM, but how is Mining Machinery viewed academically? Since Machinery sits under the Mechanical department and blends Mech + Electrical courses, is the grading harder or the curriculum significantly more hectic than pure Mining?
  3. The "IIT Tag" for Non-Core/Consulting: Does having the IIT brand on my resume give me a massive edge for profile-heavy roles like Management Consulting (MBB) or Finance during summer placements at IIMs, even if my branch is highly niche? Or would a mainstream engineering branch from a Tier 2 NIT look better?
  4. Academic Diversity: Do both Mining and Mining Machinery qualify for the academic diversity points at IIMs, or is Machinery treated like standard Mechanical?

I'm leaning toward the IIT route because the brand feels like a lifetime asset for higher studies, but I want to make sure I'm not over-simplifying the academic load of these lower branches.

Would love to hear from anyone who has walked either of these paths. Thanks
