Floating for 1 month or more

More than 2 years na sa comp and unfortunately nagclose na yung project last June. Given na wala pa malilipatan na ibang engagement, the agreement with HR is we will be on a floating status until new project comes.

We are in full RTO when project was still ongoing. However, buti nalang na they decided na i-wfh nalang kami given na wala naman gagawin sa office. Our laptops have been surrendered already so literal na wala gagawin.

Just to add, we are under IT and not customer service since we are licensed professionals. So we cannot just easily transfer sa mga voice accounts na kung anu anu lang.

HR advised that we will be having severance pay if no engagements will accept us in a month or so. Honestly, I am happy since wfh naman and makakapag pahinga. Pero the uncertainty of what will happen on my career is what bothers me.

If you will be on my shoe, mag aapply na rin ba kayo or wait nalang yung severance pay?

Thanks in advance guys.

Edit: forgot to mention we are under paid floating status. No night diff and holiday pay lang.

Seeking career advice as a Fresh grad

Hi everyone! I’m a fresh Computer Engineering graduate, and I just wanted to ask if it’s okay to start my career in an IT Support or Help Desk role?

Coding wasn’t really my strongest skill during college, so I’m curious if anyone here took the same path. I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Students Stop Overthinking

As the title says, students need to stop overthinking, madami pros and cons for everything saka wala naman talaga nakakapredict ano magaganap sainyo katapos nyo maggraduate or katapos nyo piliin course nyo, better to decide on life choices using your own gut or discretion.

Iba-iba mga sitwasyon ng mga tao wag kayo masyado padala sa consensus ng mga tao dito kase iba din predicaments nila either mas may advantage sila or disadvantage due to an array of circumstances.

Just my two cents, Godbless! ✌🏼

Small BENECO outage notifier

Hello kakabsat,

I made a small BENECO outage notifier that sends updates through ntfy.

It can send alerts for new outages, restored service, and a daily 6 AM outage list.

This is not official. Just a small community tool I’m testing because power updates are useful, especially for people working from home or relying on stable internet.

Edit: Please use the beneco-power-outages topic moving forward instead of beneco-power-outage.

Edit2: Please use the https://ntfy.jjosh.dev server moving forward instead of http://ntfy.jjosh.dev:8080.

Details and setup here: I Built a Small BENECO Power Outage Notification Tool Using ntfy | jjosh

Incoming 4th Year CS Student this AUGUST — Am I hireable?

Hi everyone! Incoming 4th year Computer Science student this August. Sa mga na-hire po jan before their graduation, mga current JUNIORS AND SENIORS, or event IT professionals, I hope you can engage and give honest feedback on this post hehez

Lately, napapaisip lang ako kung enough na ba yung mga skills na na-build ko throughout college para maging hireable after graduation. Am I actually building the right skills for the industry or if I still have major gaps na hindi ko pa nakikita?

I also recently got accepted into an unpaid Backend AI Engineering internship because I wanted to gain real industry experience before pa sa mismong academic required/official na OJT from my univ.

So far, ito yung stack na comfortable akong gamitin through years of self-study:

  • React
  • TypeScript & JavaScript
  • HTML/CSS
  • Node.js & Express
  • PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • Java
  • Data Science & Analytics
  • Applied Machine Learning (training and evaluating ml models for academic/personal projects)
  • Currently learning Docker, CI/CD, AWS for deployment.

Most of my experience sa FS comes from school and personal projects where I built full-stack web applications, and as you can see, i use the same stack on all of my project. Although, they are all still in local, but im learning on how to deploy them (currently learning Docker, CI/CD, AWS, deployment so i can bring them closer to a production environment)

And also, ni-ttry ko rin i-practice and gawin sa sarili kong projects yung mga common software engineering practices like modular architecture, clean code principles, Git workflows, and proper project structure based on what i've learned from experienced developers and online resources.

For my undergraduate thesis, i'm developing a system that combines full-stack development, applied machine learning (meron pong model for my ML hehe), and blockchain. I'm also the primary (and only) developer responsible for building the system.

My question is: based on today's job market, do you think this is already a solid foundation for an entry-level software engineering role? Or are there specific technologies, concepts, or areas that I should focus on during my internship, OJT and before graduation?

Id really appreciate a honest feedback. Hindi po ako looking for validation, I genuinely want to know where I stand and what i can improve. Thanks!

Am I ghosted na ba or not? - Software Dev Internship

I applied for an intern job listing about a week ago, and a few days later I received a message saying that I had been shortlisted. They mentioned that they wanted to conduct a short interview and that they would send me a separate message with the interview schedule.

I replied to their message as soon as I could, but it's been several days now and I still haven't received any follow-up regarding the interview. I managed to find the HR recruiter on LinkedIn.

Would it be appropriate to message them directly to follow up, or should I wait a bit longer?

I've made a mistake during interview about my salary and I'm kind of regretting it right now

Good day, asking sana ng advice if it's still possible to renegotiate my salary before my regularization? For context, the position is urgent and they asked me if I can start immediately they asked me for my expected salary which I said is 30k during initial interview and did not asked again on the next interviews, they bump the salary a little in my contract which is good somehow, but lately I've known the salary for being a web developer for this company is around 50k since its scope is wide and handling multiple projects. Right now, I can handle those projects with minimal supervision and my boss is happy since I've completed those projects before the deadline. If I am consistently performing like this even with additional work, can I renegotiate my salary to match it to their position? I am kind of regretting it right now because I ultimately low balled myself haha. But to be fair also, they did not asked hard questions (just my personal life) during my interview so I really don't know kung tama ba na mag demand ako ng salary adjustment

I also just got referred here and became the top applicant (they say idk but maybe this helps I guess)

Edit: I just got recently hired also with 1 year of exp. After my 2 weeks and delivered the projects before the deadline, they granted me a wfh setup so I don't know right now if I will be asking too much if I renegotiate my salary before regularization

Allowed ba kayo sa paggamit ng AI for coding?

Sa current setup ko kasi, strictly prohibited gumamit ng AI assistants due to data privacy raw. Sobrang nakakabagal ng sprint progress.
