How do FMCG brands gets listed with Dmart , reliance etc ??

Hi,
I am in the early stage of planning an fmcg business in India, focused on home essentials such as cleaning liquids and other house related items.

Before I invest in manufacturing, I am trying to understand the modern retail distribution ecosystem actually works.

My main question is around getting products into larger retail chain such as Dmart , reliance retail etc.

How does the process of getting listed with these chains actually work ?

  1. Do I approach the retail directly, or do I need to go through a distributor ?

  2. How does new brands gets their meetings with these retails ?

  3. What kind of margin , listing fees , schemes , MOQ should I expect ?

  4. Do large chains generally consider products from completely new brand or do they expect an established sales record ?

I am interested to know these details !

Thank you so much

What offline business would you start in Jaipur with ₹5Cr?

I already run a profitable online business, but most of my work happens at night, so my days/evenings are pretty empty. Since I work online, I also don’t get many chances to meet people or build a good social circle.

I’m thinking of starting an offline business in Jaipur where I can spend my evenings, meet interesting people, build a community/network, and hopefully generate some decent income as well.

Maximum profit isn’t the main goal. I have around ₹3–4 Cr capital available and also own roughly 5,000 sq ft of land that could be used if suitable.

I’ve thought about things like a social club, sports club, premium café/community space, indoor climbing, etc., but I’m open to completely different ideas.

What do you think Jaipur is genuinely missing right now?

How to start off as a founder with no network

I am M22 and I have been building startsups since college. Due to many reasons some failed while some got decent feedback.

But in my recently exited startup. There has been a pretty huge fight with my "investor" and things ended badly, had to write the company off.

This has got me wondering how should I actually proceed from now. To be honest I think I need someone experiences whom I can trust to mentor me. And I put high energy and decent experience of building things.

IAnd now I am offered to work in the core team without any salary expected to not make anything for an year ( Although the founder promises otherwise). Am genuinely not sure if this is right, if am getting cheated the 2nd time.

What is a typical journey for a core member in a start up. And more broadly what is the journey of an early entrepreneur?

Looking for an app developer

Hey everyone,

I am a business-minded individual working on an early-stage app concept in the local services space.

Since I do not come from a software engineering background, I’m looking to connect with a developer who enjoys brainstorming tech concepts and discussing project feasibility.

What I'm looking for:

Someone open to a casual chat about app structure, tech stacks, and user flow.

A developer interested in potentially partnering up long-term on an equity basis if we click and the idea makes sense.
