Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has called for a sharp escalation of Israeli strikes in Gaza, saying “30 to 40” people should be killed every night.

Speaking on a podcast with former Gaza hostage Rom Braslavski, Ben-Gvir said he disagreed with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach and called for a campaign of targeted killings in Gaza. He also advocated for the mass emigration of Palestinians from the territory and its resettlement by Israelis.

His remarks come as diplomatic efforts intensify around US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, even as Israeli strikes continue across the enclave.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has shared a video and photo of an election billboard featuring New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani alongside Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah

The billboard carries the message: “Don’t let them win.”

The post comes ahead of Israel’s upcoming election, with Netanyahu using the billboard to frame the political contest around what he portrays as threats to Israel and its security.

The inclusion of Mamdani alongside Erdogan, Khamenei and Nasrallah has also drawn attention, linking the New York mayor to figures strongly opposed by Netanyahu and the Israeli establishment.

US President Donald Trump is reportedly seeking a fresh summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, potentially as early as November. No formal arrangements have been made, while a White House official said the two could meet “at an appropriate time”.

The push follows a reduction in the scale of a joint US-South Korea military exercise and Trump’s reference to his relationship with Kim. Any renewed talks would come amid North Korea’s expanding weapons programmes and closer ties with Russia and China.

More than 80% of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz over the past two weeks have used a route along Oman’s side of the waterway, according to Kpler data cited by CNN, a major shift from earlier in the Iran war.

The change suggests Iran may have partially lost its ability to control shipping through the strategic waterway. The Omani route, authorised by the United Nations but opposed by Tehran, had seen almost no traffic a month ago.

With US naval forces providing protection, commercial vessels are increasingly using the alternative route despite the risks. Gulf oil producers are also relying on tankers and rerouting strategies to keep crude flowing.

The United Arab Emirates has suspended all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, citing regional escalation and threats to regional and international peace and security.

The announcement came after the UAE said it detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran, which it assessed were targeting maritime traffic. Both missiles fell into the sea.

The move comes amid heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and the collapse of a 60-day window for US-Iran peace talks. Iran has rejected the UAE's missile allegations as “baseless”.

China is moving to reduce its dependence on US technology, with state agencies reportedly ordered to uninstall Microsoft Windows 10 from government computers and shift to domestic Linux-based operating systems.

The move, reportedly driven by data security concerns, involves a customised version of Windows 10 used by Chinese state agencies. Domestic alternatives including Kylin OS and Unity OS are expected to play a larger role as Beijing pushes for greater technological self-reliance.

The move is part of a broader effort by China to replace foreign technology in sensitive sectors, even as Windows continues to dominate the country’s consumer desktop market.
