What is actually wrong with our U18 basketball program?
First of all, congrats to the U18 boys on the win over Kazakhstan. But after watching these games, I genuinely want to ask what is going wrong with our U18 program when we play the stronger teams? Is our development system really that far behind?
The biggest thing that stands out to me is the offense. Against good teams, it feels like we don't really have much of an offensive system. There's a lot of reliance on one player to create something, and when we do try to move the ball, the possessions often end in turnovers. Our defense actually looks considerably better, but offensively we seem completely lost at times. I'm not trying to blame 17 18 year old players for losing to much stronger basketball nations. I'm more interested in why these problems seem to become so obvious when the competition level goes up.
And yes, I already know the obvious answer is going to be “bro, cricket exists”. Obviously basketball isn't going to have the same resources, popularity or infrastructure as cricket, and we're never going to magically have the same basketball system as countries that have been investing heavily in the sport for decades. But even within our limitations, are there things we could be doing much better?
Would love to hear from people who follow Indian youth basketball more closely than I do.
Not allowed to play basketball
So I live in India and my friend from previous school just transferred to the school in which i currently am, he has gone to the SGFI level (beyond National) and so It motivated me to seriously try to play basketball, I wanted to play basketball after reading Slam Dunk 4 years ago but didn't have any opportunities but right now he has gotten access to the basketball court in campus in which our school is, and our school doesnt have a court and it will take 2 years to built it, (our school doesnt have enough funds) but when I explained all this to my family, and said that I really really want to play basketball, they just said we wont allow you to go outside to play

Path to national team
Hi i am 19 in tamil nadu and i lived in qatar my entire life and now transfered to india for college. I am an indian nationality. I dont quite get the path from college to national team. I have an idea how to get there but more insight will be better pls.
- Lets say i join a club which will severely damage my time management to even train for bball but will the sacrifice be worth it than just playing for my own college team and hoping for them to notice me?
- Should i wait for them to give a tryout in a club or should i just go there
Basketball at 19
I am a 19 year old college student. Should I continue with basketball academy or not? I've played at basketball academy for a few months in 2023-24.
