Rollup inflatable build done.

12.5ft innovocean rollup inflatable. Managed to throw a swivel seat on the boat by installing a leg on the bottom that swings down. Also raised the transom a few inches so it can run long shaft motors without issue.

Also installed three scotty rod holders.

Made a bow canopy, really helps with choppy water, stops it from splashing inwards. I'm running a 20hp Mercury, gets me up to about 22 knots. and a Helix 5 G3 for a fishfinder

All this fits in a 5ft tacoma bed.

Nerd buys first boat

Decided 2 weeks ago that I should buy a boat for a cottage trip this week. I needed to give it my own personal touch.

Kayak or inflatable skiff ?

Looking to get on the water in SE Florida and trying to figure out the best option for my situation.

I need something that can run a trolling motor now and eventually a small gas outboard. My biggest concerns are storage and transportation.

I currently have a Mazda CX-5 and would prefer not to add a hitch/trailer or roof rack. I live in an apartment, so I’d ideally like something I can store off-site and inflate/deflate easily and fit in the CX-5.

I’ve been looking at the Pelican Catch Mode 110 ($700) if going the roof rack option. A Newport inflatable skiff, and Air/Lite skiff.

For those of you in South Florida, or experience with any of these mentioned or similar vessels, what would you recommend?

Open to other options as well.

Thanks in advance

Inflatable Dinghy feedback

I’m on the market for a cheap dinghy to keep on my new 34 ft boat. Just to take the dog in to the nearby beach to do his business while cruising. I have an electric outboard to mount. I thought I had a dinghy in my garage, but it has no engine mount!

I have been searching around and it seems like this cheap Amazon one might do the trick. Can anyone offer any feedback based on the specs or personal experience?

For comparison, this is the cheapest on west marine:

Raised transom on rollup inflatable. Water climbing transom issue fixed.

Only had long shaft motors available to me and short shaft motors were difficult to find and expensive, as well as of limited use. Even with the trim maxed out water was still climbing up the transom on anything more than 1/3 throttle.

So I got a welder to bolt an aluminum beam to raise the transom about 3". Now water doesn't climb the transom even without the trim maxed out. With a 20hp merc it goes about 40km/hr in a 12.5ft trimaran inflatable. This option only cost me about $150 and was way cheaper and more secure than the retail options. Not only that but I have the full length of the transom to utilize so I can clamp both a trolling motor and fishfinder on top.

Intex Mariner 4 floor

I purchased an intex Mariner 4 recently. Love the boat, except that the heaviness and awkwardness of the floor makes it virtually impossible for me to set it up or tear it down by myself. I have lower back issues and I've tweaked my back with the floor already. I don't want to throw it out completely.

Has anyone modified it by putting 1 inch thick interlocking EVA mats down? Pros and cons? How is the stability? Durability?

Completely stuck propeller on 55lb trolling motor (Wedged shear pin?) - Need advice!

The Problem:

I have a standard 12V 55lb electric trolling motor, and the propeller is completely seized on the shaft. I have removed the prop nut, but the propeller refuses to come off.

How it happened (Context):

I want to clarify that this is NOT an issue of saltwater corrosion, calcification, or melted plastic from wrapped fishing line. About 3 months ago, the prop slipped off very easily by accident. I immediately pushed it back on, and the motor hasn't been in the water since. It basically got stuck during that quick reinstallation.

The Symptoms (Very specific):

Zero play: The propeller is completely rigid on the shaft. There is absolutely no wiggle room or end-play between the plastic hub and the metal shaft.

Pulling the whole armature: When I pull the prop outward by hand, it doesn't slide on the shaft. Instead, I am actually pulling the entire motor shaft/armature out, fighting the internal magnetic pull of the motor.

No gap (Rubbing the housing): When I let go, the magnets suck the shaft back in, and the back of the propeller rests entirely against the metal lower unit (torpedo). The normal 1-2mm clearance gap is gone.

The "Click": When I pull it outward (overcoming the magnets until the internal rotor hits the bearing stop) and try to twist and pull, it makes a clicking sound and catches, but still won't slide off.

Any ideas on how to deal with the problem without risking the motor? Could a completely functional trolling motor be ruined so easily?!
