I love Inkscape so much!!

I make games, but not art. I tried drawing as a kid and wasn't very good, and every time I tried digital art over the years it never really clicked.

I recently discovered Inkscape, and using shapes instead of freehand drawing just makes sense to me. My goal is to make my own game art, and I'm honestly really happy with how these turned out, especially since they're my first two drawings.

Where is the option to increase the spacing between letters?

I can not find this anywhere.

and it kinda sucks xD it should become a cat in the beginning, but after messing up the ears and mouth i gave up and decided its gonna become a demonic kitty xD

I built a tool that turns any image into self-drawing SVG line art

Thought it would be cool to add a self-drawing SVG animation to my portfolio, but it took some time to figure out. anime.js has this feature, but getting it to work properly and converting an image into a clean SVG paths (with the right threshold and other settings) may take some time. So I built a tool for it.

You drop in a photo or logo -> it converts it into SVG paths -> animates those paths(they draw themselves like a pen sketch)

features/how to use

  • upload an image and it converts into single-color SVG line art
  • choose custom path and background colors
  • adjust the trace settings: threshold(usually 100 works best), invert dark/light
  • control the animation: duration(in ms), delay between paths, easing, direction (forward/reverse/ping-pong), looping, fade-in fill at the end
  • Export as copy-paste SVG, a downloadable SVG file, or a self-contained HTML file with everything included

Works best with illustrations, cartoons, and clean line drawings. Real-world photos can be harder to convert into clear SVG paths

If the below is not a bounded area what is a bounded area????

As you can see the area is clearly bounded. Thanks in advance

Instagram’s image aspect ratio has changed again – when will it be updated in Inkscape? (Please read my post before commenting! Thank you very much!)

Hello there!

I only recently found out that Instagram has changed the image aspect ratio once again. As far as I know, the new recommended size is now 3:4, which is 1080 X 1440 pixels.

From what I can see on Inkscape’s welcome screen, this change hasn’t been reflected in the program yet. It still offers 1080 X 1350 pixels for portrait images.

Do you think there’s a chance this will be updated in Inkscape soon? I’d be really happy if they could update it as soon as possible!

Thank you very much in advance for your replies!

PDF imported into Inkscape -> re-export into PDF very pixelated

I have a somewhat absurd workflow which can't easily be altered due to very custom and complex software. This software can only output PDFs, but in high rest (600 dpi).

When I import these PDFs into Inkscape, resolution looks great. I add some more text, other (svg) images etc. However, when I export this as a pdf, the parts which already came from the orignal pdf look very very pixelated. The remaining images which were imported from svg files and any other shapes etc. which I added look completely fine.

Can someone help me understand what's going on? Why does the high-res PDF component look good in inkscape but export so badly?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Combining gears and process nodes in Inkscape. Really testing my grid alignment skills here

Here is my latest vector layout practice in Inkscape: a technical icon template representing automation, settings, or data integration.

Combining the circular process nodes on the left with the gear mechanism on the right while maintaining clean geometry across the grid was a fun challenge. I had to manually adjust some nodes to make the layout feel perfectly balanced and sharp.

Would love to get some feedback! What are your favorite tricks for designing accurate gear teeth or symmetrical mechanical elements without using external plugins?

Inkscape Geometry Riddle: Can you decipher the hidden message inside this stepped vector maze?

I wanted to try something interactive with Inkscape’s grid system today and designed a geometric puzzle.

Along this stepped vector contour, there are letters, numbers, and symbols perfectly aligned to the cells. If you find the right path and read them in the correct sequence, they spell out a hidden message/phrase.

Let's test your internal processing units! Drop your guesses in the comments below before checking the solution.

No cheating! 🧠👇

SPOILER WARNING: The correct answer is hidden below:
