wonhung und hund - Rent with dogs

I have been offered a position at IT:U university in Linz, and I am looking for an accommodation for me and my two little dogs (10kg and 6kg). They are quiet and one is getting old. I need to find a place close the working place (4040 code) or quickly reachable by bicycle.

I was told that Austria is a pet-friendly Country.
However, I have been rejected over and over.
This article (below) [1] also terrifies me, since it depicts people in the area are not pet friendly at all, and I really was hoping to find a place that is serene with animals around (I lived in Sweden and my heart is there), and not want to find my self close to people who harass animals or provoke them or threaten them or me because they don't want them around.

Can you please advice where to look for places that accept dogs?
Will the cooperative housing accept them?
By law it should be allowed, and instead it seems owners and agencies rejects them.
It is also absurd that on willhaben or immobilienscout24 there are not filters to tick for "pets allowed".

I don't want to find my self in the situation that I need to reject a job because neither the university, neither the agencies, neither the private market accept dogs. It is really weird and was not expecting this in Austria.

It seems to be impossible to find any accommodations.

I am trying my best to look for accommodations but haven’t gotten anywhere so far. Tried student dorms, willhaben does not work from my country, shared apartments am unable to find, websites seem to be sketchy.
I dont want to give up my dream of studying in Austria just because I couldn’t find accommodation.

Can someone from this sub please and please offer some leads or help? I know this sub is filled with people looking for accommodations as of now, and this post is no different. But I am mentally exhausted and I need someone who can offer real help.

Should I go to Linz?

Okay so here's the thing. I'm from South Africa and I really want to go to JKU but I'm wondering, I'm going to apply to start in summer semester of 2027 and it is a great opportunity but I've heard a lot of negativity about the biological chemistry degree of people saying that if you do it in Summer semester it is going to be a struggle. I'm also wondering how is it student life wise, is it fun? Do you guys hangout and enjoy or is linz soley academic. I'm really tied between it but also it sounds like so much fun and I would love to study the degree, I'm really passionate about it. I'm not really a partier so I think I would like linz but I also would like to have a university experience like we have in South Africa. Please let me know your thoughts!

Question for Third-Country Students: Health Insurance

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m currently gathering my documents to apply for an Austrian residence permit from a Third-Country. I’ll be heading to FH Wels soon to start the International Foundation Programme (IFP)!

I’m trying to get the health insurance part 100% correct for my application. From my research, it looks like I need a two-step approach:

  • Travel Insurance for the initial entry/gap period.
  • ÖGK Student Insurance once I actually arrive and register at the uni.

My question: For those who have applied from a third country, how many months of travel insurance did you show for your initial application to satisfy the Embassy? Also, did you just include a "Statement of Intent" saying you'd switch to ÖGK after registration?

If you have any tips on specific providers that worked for your visa or advice on the Wels ÖGK office, I’d really appreciate it! 🙏✨
