Car doesn't start, could it be the auxiliary battery?

I have a 2018 Jeep Compass.

I was driving home I got the service engine light and got the warning message to pull over to a safe place because the car will stop. I've gotten those before and always continued driving and the car always started back up without the warning message after I turned it off. Also on the way home for a second it said battery saver on and some features may not be available.

So I got home and parked safely. But this time the car didn't start when I tried. I even tried walking far away with the keys and coming back and trying again, no luck. The main battery I recently changed at walmart. So it can't be that. The auxiliary battery I haven't changed recently (I think 3 years).

So my question is does this appear to be the auxiliary battery or could it be something more sinister?

Would a bullbar look silly on my 2014?

Had some close calls with kangaroos lately, it doesn't look like there's many bullbar options out there but I'm considering it.

Inner tie rod

Has anyone changed the inner tie rods from the 2019 compass and if you have, what were the torque specs for the inner and outer tie rods. Thanks

Trying to learn how to do everything myself without having to spend so much money at a mechanic shop.

Coolant

I have a 2018 jeep compass and today as I was going home my car idled quickly saying the car was too hot and went back to normal. I checked the coolant levels and it looks pretty low. Im seeing online the coolant they have is purple and the one mine has looks orange. Does anyone know what right coolant to use?

2018 Unicorn Compass

I’ve always been the type to buy something and immediately start planning how to make it better. A few weeks ago I found what I think is a unicorn a 2018 Jeep Compass Limited 4x4 with only 7,625 miles on it.

The service history is surprisingly solid:
Dealer pre-delivery inspection
Dealer maintenance inspections
PCM software update
Battery replaced in 2024
Regular oil changes
Fresh title and registration

The only thing really showing its age is the original tires, which are eight years old despite having very few miles on them.

The plan

This isn’t going to become a hardcore rock crawler. I want a reliable, comfortable daily driver that can handle:
beaches
Fire roads
Camping trips
Road trips

I’m aiming for a clean, factory-plus overland look rather than something over-the-top.

Planned upgrades
Suspension

HRG Offroad 2” Lift
New struts/shocks while everything is apart
New upper mounts and sway bar links

Tires

Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail 225/55R18

Exterior

Vanguard Optimus Bull Bar
Vanguard Rear Bumper Guard
Curt Class III 2” receiver hitch
BrightLines roof crossbars
Roof basket
Chrome delete
LED lighting throughout

Interior

All-weather floor liners
Cargo liner
Console organizer
Dash camera

The long-term goal

I’m planning to keep this Jeep for a long time, so I’m building it once and building it right.

I’m even putting together a VIN-specific maintenance and modification manual with OEM part numbers, torque specs, service history, and every compatible accessory I can verify.

I’d love to hear from other second-generation Compass owners.

What upgrades have been your favorite?
Anything you’d do differently?
Any “must-have” accessories I’m missing?
How has your Compass held up over the years?

Looking forward to learning from the community and sharing the build as it comes together!

Fob not detected

Hi!

I have a 2022 latitude lux 4x4 with 19,000 miles. New batteries in both fobs. In the past few months, I’ve had a few times where I get back in the vehicle after pumping gas, and the car won’t start. Says fob not detected but it’ll literally be in my hand.

Happened next to a grand owner and he told me to put the end of the fob up against the ignition button. Tried that and it worked. Off I drove. Never thought about it.

It’s been happening again and now, I can’t seem to turn it back on. It eventually works, but wtf???

Can shifting a Jeep Compass from Drive to Neutral while moving really damage the gearbox?

Need some advice from people who understand transmissions better than I do.
My brother has a Jeep Compass with an automatic transmission. While the car was moving in Drive, my toddler accidentally touched the gear selector, and it shifted into Neutral. The driver simply coasted and brought the car to a safe stop.
Later, the service centre told us that because the gear was moved while the vehicle was in motion, the gearbox has been damaged and now needs to be replaced. The quoted repair cost is huge.
This is what I’m struggling to understand.
Wouldn’t manufacturers design for accidental shifts like this? It doesn’t seem like an impossible scenario—a child, a passenger, or even the driver could accidentally bump the gear selector.
So I have a few questions:
● Can a single accidental shift from Drive to Neutral while the vehicle is moving actually damage the transmission?
● If yes, what exactly gets damaged mechanically?
● Is replacing the entire gearbox a normal recommendation, or could this be an overdiagnosis?
● Has anyone here experienced something similar with a Jeep Compass or any other automatic car?
I genuinely want to understand whether this explanation makes technical sense before we agree to such an expensive repair.
Any insights from mechanics, transmission specialists, or Jeep owners would be greatly appreciated.

2023 Jeep Compass Limited - “Service Electronic Throttle Control” + Lost Power While Driving

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 2023 Jeep Compass Limited with around 30,700 miles from a dealership.
Today, while driving at about 35-40 MPH, I suddenly got a “Service Electronic Throttle Control” message on the dashboard. At the same time, the vehicle lost power and wouldn’t accelerate properly. I had to safely pull over, switch the engine off, and restart it. After restarting, the warning disappeared and the Jeep drove normally again.
A few details:
● 2023 Jeep Compass Limited
● ~30,700 miles
● No Check Engine Light
● “Service Electronic Throttle Control” message appeared
● Vehicle went into reduced power/limp mode

● Restarting the engine temporarily fixed it
Has anyone experienced the same issue?
● What was the root cause?
● Was it the throttle body, accelerator pedal sensor, software update, wiring, or something else?
● Did the problem come back after restarting?
● Was it covered under warranty?
I’m planning to take it back to the dealer, but I’d like to hear from other Compass owners about what the actual fix was.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

2022 Jeep compass randomly shutting off

Hi, I don’t really understand cars. I was gifted it on my 16th birthday like last year, and I don’t know what’s going on with my car. It has been so annoying that I cannot listen to music or anything at all!!

Basically, what is going on is my system constantly keeps shutting off. It says Parksense unavailable, temporary blindspot, and sound system unavailable service required. I went to the car shop, and they said nothing was wrong with it and it was fine for a week. Then boom, all of a sudden, it did the same thing I went in for help for!! Then it got worse, and my system will most of the time glitch out so I can’t listen to my music or use navigation, and it has this annoying beeping noise even when I turn it off :(((

Can someone please help me out?

I am looking at buying a 2016 jeep compass (base trim I think?) but I had 4 questions (feel free to only answer the couple you know... I just didn't want to crowd this subreddit with multiple posts):

How is the leg room? I am 6' 3'' and I can fit fine into a grand cherokee but I don't know how similar they are in terms of room despite having similar specs.

What are the best options to retrofit a bluetooth stereo to this?

What the biggest problems to look out for and repairs that i should be ready to do?

Is $5600 CAD ($4000 USD) a good price for this?

160000km
Well maintained
Winter tires included
Manual Transmission

Thanks!

*Sound on* 15792 miles, 2024 Jeep Compass AWD sport breaking noise? Advice needed.

Anyone familiar with this sound? I mean the car’s fairly new and only 15k miles on it. Closing in on 2 years on the 30th this month.
Any advice? I am planning on selling it off the coming month due to financial constraints but don’t want the company to reduce the quote because of this.
No warnings, Breaks strongly and fine. But the noise..

Greetings from Costa Rica!

My wife and I just purchased a new Jeep Compass (Brazilian-spec version with the 1.3L turbo engine).

We've had it for almost a month and already put about 2,000 km on it. So far we're really enjoying it. The ride is comfortable, the interior feels premium, and the engine has plenty of power for daily driving.

I know this version is different from the one sold in the US, so I'd be interested to hear from other owners in Latin America or Europe. How has your experience been with the 1.3 turbo over the long term?

2020 Compass Intermittent Noise

2020 Jeep Compass (73K miles) – Intermittent noise only after vehicle is warmed up/driven 30+ minutes
The noise is difficult to describe. It is not a constant hum, growl, or grinding noise. It sounds more like a repetitive chirping, tapping, or light knocking noise.
Looking for some ideas before I throw more money at this

Symptoms:
Noise appears after the vehicle is fully warmed up
Noise occurs while braking
Noise also occurs while coasting under 25/30 mph with my foot completely off the brake and gas
Noise is most noticeable during slower speed driving, parking lots, stops, etc.
No warning lights
Noise seems intermittent rather than constant

Repairs/maintenance already done:
Front and rear brake pads and rotors replaced August 2025
Calipers serviced August 2025
Brake fluid flush 2025
Brake inspection performed Aug 2025, Feb 2026, Apr 2026, May 2026
Suspension and steering inspection performed Aug 2025, Feb 2026, Apr 2026, May 2026
Transfer case checked
Tie rods replaced Feb 2026
Sway bar links replaced Feb 2026
Alignment performed 3+ times between Feb 2026 – May 2026

Important timeline:
The brakes and rotors were replaced August 2025
The noise did NOT start until late January/early February 2026, approx. 5-6 months later
The noise has continued since then.

What makes this confusing is that the noise occurs both while braking and coasting with no brake input.
When the noise is occurring, lightly touching the brake pedal can sometimes make the noise become louder, quieter, or disappear, but does not necessarily change into a different type of noise.
I am not necessarily assuming the brake job caused this, since the vehicle was quiet for several months afterward.
The noise seems to be coming from the front end of the vehicle, but I cannot say that with certainty.

Has anyone experienced something similar on a Compass? Does this sound more like:
Sticking caliper or slide pin?
Brake hardware issue?
Rotor dust shield contact?
Wheel bearing?
CV axle?
Something else entirely?

Video attached – the beginning is me coming to a stop, stopped (moving foot on/off brake/inching up to see if it makes the noise- I can hear it), and then accelerating.

Chime speaker stopped working

My car no longer makes the turn signal clicking noise or the unbuckled seatbelt noise. Anyone have experience replacing the Compass chime speaker?
