Hi all! As with the “MaoMao’s feelings for Jinshi” post, I wanted to share the following explanations of the Frog scene and carriage scene to help fill in any context for anime-only watchers. As with the other post, this explanation was written by someone else who is no longer on Reddit but gave me permission to share, and I am sharing it because it is a question that comes up far too frequently in other spaces of the internet. If you ever wish to use this explanation to help new fans understand the scenes, absolutely feel free to. We only ask that you ensure to copy/paste the text instead of crossposting. “Both the frog scene and the carriage scene were examples of Jinshi dealing with puberty for the first time ever. Jinshi has been in an aphrodisiac state of mind (similar to the state of mind Basen was in when he ate that turtle) ever since season 2 episode 10 due to suddenly stopping his eunuch meds and being forced to deal with multiple years of puberty hormones at once. This means that he was super aroused and not in his normal state of mind at all. He will continue to remain in this condition until MaoMao gives him a special treatment in season 3. All of his actions in these scenes were reactions to MaoMao’s actions. That’s also why he initially tries to keep a distance from Maomao in the two mentioned scenes. A running joke of this section of the series until Jinshi gets his new hormones in check is that MaoMao keeps accidentally activating his frog while he’s in the aphrodisiac/fresh-puberty state and he has no idea how to handle it due to never having an active frog (b0ner) before, which is seen in the frog scene, the carriage scene, and a scene in season 3.

Regarding the carriage scene, Maomao unexpectedly compliments Jinshi. He makes a face as he feels his frog come alive (second b0ner ever), lets go of MaoMao’s wrist to keep a distance from her, makes a worse face and stares at the ceiling in the carriage scene as he tries to get his frog back under control, but then MaoMao moves into his space and he loses control again. These scenes are supposed to be more comedic than anything else but the anime really fails at delivering comedy, at least in season 2. So these scenes are all a result of MaoMao activating his frog when he’s never had puberty before and has no idea how to handle an active frog. MaoMao gave Jinshi his second b0ner ever in the carriage scene and his first b0ner ever in the frog scene when she squeezed tf out of his frog multiple times

Regarding the frog scene, here is another summary which explains it best: “He was not going to force himself on her and anyone who thinks or says otherwise does not understand his character at all. He did not have a plan: He only wanted to scare her and get her to stop lying (aka agree that it wasn’t a frog). This was his impulsive reaction to their banter, which is why MaoMao’s immediate line is “Crap, I provoked him too much”. She was fully aware that he was just reacting to her words.

Let’s recap what led up to this scene:

- Jinshi has been desperately trying to tell MaoMao his identity for days
- They end up in a situation where MaoMao rub/squeezes Jinshi’s frog repeatedly and finds out part of what he wanted to tell her: that he is not a eunuch. Note that she squeezed it even after he told her to let go and after she realized what she was squeezing. He further was fresh off his eunuch meds and experiencing puberty all at once, and she essentially gave him his first active frog (b0ner) ever with all the squeezing and stripping. Also note that MaoMao was worried that Jinshi would hear her heart pounding in this scene, but the anime left out this line
- Jinshi (who is now turned on, embarrassed, and also relieved that she partially knows): sits up to have a serious discussion with her about his identity
- MaoMao completely ignores him, interrupts him, insults his manhood by calling it a frog, and then insults the size of it
- Jinshi, annoyed af about everything MaoMao said and did up until this point as well as about the fact that MaoMao is not listening to him at all, places her down and asks her if she wants proof

.. This was Jinshi’s way of getting her to stop fooling around and listen to what he was trying to say. Words were not working with her so he resorted to this action. It was a full-blown impulsive reaction to send her two messages: “Please listen to what I’m trying to tell you” and “You should see me as a man, not a eunuch”. The leg grab also had 2 purposes: serving as part of the “see me as a man” message and also hardcore flirting.

After reaching this position, he hesitates for a second (this is the part where his face grimaces). He then moves closer for a kiss, hoping that MaoMao would say something. As soon as MaoMao acknowledged that it’s not a frog or told him to stop, he would have stopped. But she didn’t. She was shocked at first but then decided to relax her body, close her eyes, and her lips for a better kissing angle. Jinshi did not expect this but then followed suit with his own lips. Notice that his hand was trembling the entire time while hers remained calm. And then the dog barked and snapped them out of their trance, reminding her of their status differences. While waiting for the dog, Jinshi had released her leg, but her leg was still up in the air. Further, she did not think about Jinshi’s actions even once after the incident (these are her exact words). She instead kept worrying about how she actually hurt him and squeezed his frog.

Jinshi has been dragged away to be SA’d in the past, so he would never do that to MaoMao. He also never lost his VCard, and even though he’s frequently eager to initiate romance with MaoMao, he quickly turns into “babygirl” because he can’t handle her in bed (she’s a permanent top while he’s a permanent bottom, at least with her). The maximum he would have done in this scene is kiss her and that’s it. Anything further than that would require initiation from her because he would probably be too embarrassed to continue”
