The cloud is in the oven, and now you can put it in yours: Project July beta is out (2nd-gen June Oven)
Last time the question was "why no download yet?". Well, here it is! The Project July beta is out, and you can install it on your own oven today. We're so excited to finally get this into your hands.
Before anything else:
- 2nd-gen June Oven only. That's the one we've tested. Please don't install it on a 1st or 3rd gen yet (1st gen owners, see below, we could use your help). Not sure which one you have? On the oven, open Settings › About › Your Oven: the Model Number is 02 for a 2nd gen and 03 for a 3rd gen.
- Always make a backup first. The installer backs up the whole oven before it changes anything, and can put it back if something goes wrong. It takes 15 to 30 minutes. Please don't skip it.
What we've done since the first post:
- The installer is done (well, beta 0.7): install, backup and restore, all from a USB stick, with a name for each oven (june.local, june2.local, june3.local).
- June USB 1.0, a small app that makes the USB stick for you.
- The Project July app is in beta on Google Play, and it's open source (MIT) on GitHub.
- Every cook mode the oven accepts, Grill and Pizzaiolo included, can be started from Home Assistant and from the Android and iPhone apps, and every one is tested on a real oven. The dashboard card also got a cook history and multi-oven support.
- As promised, everything is published: the oven's code, the installer and June USB are open source on GitHub, and every download comes with a checksum.
Thank you for all the feedback on the site. A lot of it is in there now. The full log is on the status page.
Download:
The easy way is June USB. It downloads the installer, checks it and makes the stick:
- June USB for Windows 10/11
- June USB for Mac (macOS 13 or later)
- How to make the stick, step by step
June USB for Windows is signed now. We're still working on signing the Mac version; until then, on a Mac you need to allow it under System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway.
On Linux, or if you'd rather not run our app, use Ventoy with the ISO (how to set up Ventoy):
- Installer ISO, 0.7 beta, about 1.4 GB
- SHA-256: ac0a86673b7cc7c15d73f7109066baf1a43f7f1f1767555b20d2dacef59438c5
Setup:
- Setup guide, with a 3D walkthrough of opening the oven and finding the SW2 button
- The full installer guide: every screen, backup and restore and troubleshooting
You need a laptop, a 16 GB or bigger USB stick, a micro-USB cable that carries data, a screwdriver and about an hour. Seven screws, one cable, one button.
Home Assistant:
The June Oven integration adds the oven with its status, temperature, cook modes, probe and live camera, plus a dashboard card that looks like the oven's own glass screen. Install it through HACS as a custom repository: prj-july/ha-june-oven
Start a cook: pick a mode, set the temperature, preheat.

The live camera, right on the card.

Every cook mode, including Toast, Pizza and Air fry in your control.
There's lots more in the card guide: cook history, several ovens on one card and settings.
Android:
The Project July app is in beta on Google Play and anyone can join. Use the same Google account as on your phone:
If Play says "Not found", do 1 and 2 first and wait a few minutes. Take the tour of the app.
iPhone:
Very soon on TestFlight; email hello@project-july.org if you want an invite before then.
Every way to control the oven, and what each one needs, is on the clients page.
Bugs:
It's a beta, so please tell us what breaks, and what works too. File bugs on GitHub (installer and June USB, app, Home Assistant) or email hello@project-july.org. The installer's troubleshooting section might already have the answer.
Gen 1:
We think it should work, but we haven't been able to verify it yet. We're trying to buy one on eBay right now. If you have a 1st gen and don't mind opening it up, you could help a lot:
- Open the bottom and compare it with the 2nd gen in the setup guide. Does it have the same micro-USB port and the SW2 button?
- If it does, take a backup only, don't install. The installer's backup doesn't change anything on the oven.
- Share the backup with hello@project-july.org via Google Drive.
Gen 3:
Work is ongoing and ramping up. We haven't forgotten you.
Same as before: nothing leaves your home, there's no account, and this is an independent community project with nothing for sale.
Happy to answer questions in the comments, and we can't wait to hear how your ovens do!
