unpopular opinion upon ck

I’ve been thinking a lot about Jk’s CK era (or all this BTS brand deal era in general) and honestly it leaves me conflicted. Not cause I specifically hate fashion or brand deals themselves (they simply don’t interest me much - didn’t join Jk’s space for that?), but more like cause of what they seem to replace.

The amount of media attention, budget, effort that went into the CK collab could’ve easily gone into music too like a single or an MV - like the current CK vibe was RIGHT there for Somebody!
And what also made the ck thing feel strange to me is that it almost felt like Ck saw and responded to Jk’s actual demand faster than his own label ever did. Fans begged for YEARS for that level of push around his music, and then suddenly a fashion brand comes in and fully capitalizes on it immediately. Almost like they bought the rights to that momentum and attention before it ever led anywhere musically.

And sorry, but atp with all these BTS deals for me it slowly stops feeling like an artist collabbing w a brand and starts feeling like the artist becoming part of the brand machine. The label profits massively from campaigns, magazine covers, ambassador deals, limited collections, and nonstop commercial exposure, while fans are expected to keep spending before they even get the thing they originally came for, music. If that eventually comes.

It feels like ppl normalize it cause it’s “glam” and feeds on the designer Jk agenda with buyable stuff w Jk’s name on it, but honestly the level of commercialism around idols is unhealthy atp. And a setup for failure for giving that much of your “morals” and personality completely associated with global brands. From a strategical point, sure it’s safer and more profitable than investing in risky creative projects? But I’m starting to lose respect for how priorities are being handled.

And yes, it makes me wonder also whether the CK era meant to compensate for missed opportunities like the Super Bowl, more stages, or a solo tour? Or is music simply not the main priority rn compared to global brand positioning? Or to fill the gap while fans waited? Or is Jk himself genuinely more comfortable focusing on these projects now than pursuing music-centered projects at the same intensity. Idt he woke up with the dream to be an ambassador for like Hublot though noone ever cared about before. As if he had to choose a brand for a deal like this suggested by Hybe.

It’s just, fans seem to delude themselves on a daily basis about his things, while what you actually have is a list of missed opportunities, an originally unplanned album with pre-written stuff, no solo tour you got easter eggs for though, and not a single hint of solo music in the foreseeable future. But if that’s fine for vast majority of ppl… ok ig.
