maybe i’m overthinking this… but this is supposed to last forever

I’ve officially reached the point where I can’t make up my mind anymore . The more I read, the more confused I get. I always thought “just pick a pretty ring,” but now I’m thinking… this is probably the piece of jewelry I’ll wear every single day for decades. That suddenly makes every little decision feel important. I’ve been comparing rings from a few different place and some local jewelers, mostly just to see different settings and learn what I actually like. The more I look, the less certain I become. The biggest thing I’m stuck on is the metal. I love the look of platinum, but then I read people saying 14k or 18k gold is easier to maintain, while others say platinum is worth it in the long run. I honestly don’t know what to believe anymore. And don’t even get me started on the diamond. I genuinely can’t decide between a natural diamond and a lab-grown one. It’s not about impressing anyone—it’s more that I don’t want to look back 20 years from now wishing I’d chosen differently. For those of you who’ve worn your engagement ring for a few years, would you still choose the same metal and the same type of diamond? Or is there something you wish you’d known before making the decision?

We got engaged! 💗

My fiancé proposed two weeks ago and it still doesn’t feel real!

He proposed with my dream pink pear engagement ring while we were in San Juan and I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out!

So excited for this next chapter together!

Engaged at the Eiffel Tower 💕

My fiancé proposed last month (5/23/26) in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and it felt like a dream. My fiancé and I (both 22) have been together since 2020, right before the pandemic started. When we get married we’ll be high school sweethearts. I graduated not too long ago with a couple of degrees and the proposal happened while we were on a study abroad trip. We started in London, headed down to Portsmouth, took a ferry to Caen and Normandy, traveled to Paris and ended up in Amsterdam. He knows how long I’ve dreamed of visiting Paris and seeing the Eiffel Tower, and it was such a beautiful moment.❤️

He designed the ring himself and chose purple and green stones since they are my favorite colors. He originally wanted a kite cut but ended up choosing a marquise which is my favorite cut! I never was a traditional diamond girl and all my friends and family say the ring is perfect for me. He showed me the wedding band that goes with it after the proposal (his mistake lol) and I fell in love with it so now I wear it on top of the engagement ring and another band will go on the bottom when we’re official, framing the engagement ring in the middle. Only concern is amethyst isn’t the strongest stone so we know we might have to replace the stone years down the line and we’re okay with that. He thought about a purple sapphire for this reason but they were all a lighter purple and he wanted the deep amethyst color. I wasn’t sure about sharing the ring and moment with strangers but my fiancé is very proud of himself and “wants to know what the folks of Reddit think”.😆

Ring specs: Size 5 12K white gold rhodium plated band with a half carat AAA amethyst with six emerald accent stones. Band is also 12K white gold with moissanite accent stones.

Engagement ring disappointment

I’m looking for honest opinions because I can’t tell if I’m overreacting or if my feelings are actually valid.
About a month ago, my boyfriend and I went ring shopping together. We went to two different jewelry stores and spent a lot of time trying on rings. We both agreed that radiant-cut rings looked best on my hand, and almost every ring we looked at was around 3 carats (lab grown diamonds). He even saved a few of those rings to his profile, so naturally I assumed that was what he planned to get and that it fit his budget.

He makes well over six figures, so I didn’t think it was unrealistic.

A couple of weeks later, he told me he was eager to propose, but that he had decided to get me “something smaller for now” and that I’d get my dream ring on our wedding day. I told him that didn’t really make sense to me because it seemed like it would end up costing more money in the long run, but I also said it’s his decision since he’s the one buying it.

When he proposed, the ring ended up being a 0.3-carat center stone with a halo. It was much, much smaller than anything we had looked at together.
I know an engagement ring isn’t what makes a marriage, and I’m grateful that he wants to marry me. But I can’t help feeling disappointed because we spent all that time looking at rings together, he got me excited about a certain style and size, and then ended up choosing something completely different without talking to me first.

Am I being shallow or ungrateful for feeling disappointed?

What’s actually throwing me off too, is that he took pictures of the 3 carat dream ring on my hand and had sent them to me after we visited the ring store. Had me blushing and excited and everything.

I’m sooooo confused

I love my new diamond ring so much I almost caused a big scene

I feel awful even admitting this. I took my ring off before showering at my friend's place. Later we were just sitting on the couch watching netflix together and then I realized I never put it back on and my heart sunk on the spot.

I ran to the bathroom and it wasnt there went I even looked inside my purse if perhaps there nope, I kept thinking I dont wanna have a breakdown rn not at my friend's place but she was so sweet and rushed immediately with me to go and look for it . (It turns out it was under a towel the whole time ofc) Now I feel guilty for even thinking the worst. How do you stop stressing so much about losing your ring? My fiance spent a lot on it and Id never forgive myself if I actually lost it.

We started looking at engagement rings together and it’s finally feeling real!!

My boyfriend and I finally went to a couple brick-and-mortar jewelry shops at our local mall yesterday because we wanted to see how different stone shapes actually look in person. Massive mistake lol. The sales reps were completely exhausting. Instead of letting us look, they immediately hit us with the "what is your maximum budget" talk and kept trying to steer us toward massive, overpriced solitary rounds that didn't fit my style at all. It felt like buying a used car. I’ve honestly had a way better time just browsing online at my own pace without someone breathing down my neck. I was messing around on the Ritani diamond rings shop looking at their halo options last night and it’s just so much more chill. You can actually think about what you like. Did anyone else completely abandon the in-store experience because of the pushy sales tactics? I want this to be a fun memory, not a stressful negotiation.

finally happened over the weekend after 4 years together!!!

so it finally happened!! my boyfriend proposed on saturday during our weekend trip and i am honestly just over the moon right now. we had talked about it a lot this past year but i had no idea he was actually going to pull it off this specific weekend, i was completely caught off guard. The ring is literally everything i wanted. we actually ended up looking at styles together a few months ago because i’m super picky about jewelry and didn't want him stressing out. we spent hours browsing settings on ritani to find a delicate solitaire band that wouldn't look too chunky on my tiny fingers. he took notes and ordered the exact stone we picked out. I can't stop staring at my hand, it feels so surreal to actually wear it now. my brain is already lowkey switching into panic mode thinking about venue costs and guest lists though lol. for anyone still waiting on their moment, it's coming!!
