Warning: My Experience with Kalshi's Inconsistencies and Questionable Mechanics

I am posting this as a warning to everyday people looking to make a little extra money on Kalshi. Over the last six months, I’ve lost over $900 on this platform, and I want to explain exactly how it happened—because it’s not as straightforward as just making bad predictions.

I’m a family man dealing with a tight budget and a disabled wife, working full-time. I turned to Kalshi hoping to build up some extra cash. At first, the losses were small, but the deeper I got, the more impossible it became to get ahead. You win pennies and lose dollars.

I wasn't gambling blindly. I spent days analyzing the markets, listening to what others were saying, changing my strategies, and watching the pricing percentages like a hawk. But once you think you have it figured out, the platform pulls the rug out from under you.

Here is what I experienced:

Screen Inconsistencies: I would lock in a trade thinking I had won or secured a specific percentage, only to find out the outcome or price had been altered. The first time, I thought it was my mistake. By the third time, it was clear that the bids and outcomes on the screen do not reliably represent what actually happens to your money.

Visual Manipulation: I witnessed markets moving up or down on the screen in ways that felt completely falsified and disconnected from the reality of the event. It felt like they were actively altering the percentages and conditions to ensure retail traders lost.

Location Tactics: They actively discourage and block VPNs. While they claim this is for compliance, I strongly suspect it allows them to adjust conditions based on where you are logging in from, making it impossible to sync up with others or prove the discrepancies you are seeing on your own screen.

I had gambled in the past but never found myself this wrapped up in trying to beat a system. The hook isn't the gambling; it's the illusion that if you just study the screen hard enough, you can win. You can't. The tactics employed behind the scenes make sure of it. Save your money, protect your peace of mind, and stay away.

Kalshi competitor platform gave me my money back

I don’t gamble. I earn.

So when I unexpectedly lost on a position that I knew I would win, I realized something was off and had to investigate further. In doing so, I discovered that the data being displayed was incorrect.

And by incorrect, I don’t mean old, delayed, or incomplete. As frustrating and costly as that can be, I understand how that might happen. What I saw was different: the data was completely inverse.

I captured screenshots, sent them to support, and after about a week, they replied acknowledging the error and initiated a refund.

I don't understand how inverse data could occur accidentally. It's unacceptable and i'm glad that Polymarket made it right. I'm confident that Kalshi would not have done the same.

App Functionality is Highway Robbery

The Kalshi app freezing mid trades cost me $1K this week. The first time the odds froze so it was showing 55% one way when it was actually 72% the other. The most recent time the app just completely froze, chart & timer disappeared, & it wouldn’t let me cash out. I highly doubt they’ll do anything to remedy any of this which is so frustrating. I really enjoyed the app in theory but the execution is egregious. + all of the allegations i’m about to read in here ☕️

Earnings mentions

Are there dial-in options for the earnings calls listed on Kalshi? Or are they webcast only markets to prevent insider trading? I saw markets resolve much earlier than I heard the word on the webcast. I didn't see a dial-in phone number available to the public
