An honest question for visitors

Why can't you use crosswalks? We have specific laws about their use, they are well marked, we even hire people to hold signs to help out. And yet, you still refuse. Driving through town (which way too long, don't get me started) I saw 6 different people just trying to jump in traffic randomly. WTF? This entitled behavior is why people don't like you.

Best place for dinner & a cocktail?

In town for the week. I'm a big foodie and love to eat at higher end places, but am truly open to anything. I've already eaten at Annabelle's (have to go every time idk they're just so cozy), Geng & Ming's, Bush Pilot's, and Taco Time. Would love to go somewhere similar to Bush Pilot's where I can get a good cocktail and a nice dinner, and may end up going there again, but wanted to see if there were any other suggestions first. TIA!

Deciding on a hike to do

We will be in port at Ketchikan early June for several hours and wanted to get a good hike in. We will be renting a car through Turo so getting to the trail shouldn't be an issue. My eyes are on Lower Silvis Lake or Perseverance Lake currently. Any recommendations for one or the other or even a different trial entirely would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Tour busses going slow.

Tour busses can't impead the flow of traffic. Driving slow with more than 5 cars behind you is minimum $100 ticket. Call and report every slow bus or van or hummer tour.

Jeep saffari's don't have a magic pass to run the Revilla Road stop sign.

Nazi Punks Fuck Off!!

Get your white supremacist wannabe martial artist hate club the fuck outta our town. There is no room for Nazi LARPers in Ketchikan!

You’ve probably heard of Patriot Front or other extremist groups popping up across the country in recent years. This “active club” purports itself to be a men’s martial arts group but has strong roots in white supremacist beliefs and actions. Alaska has a home grown one that used to be pretty centralized up north…not anymore I see. Read up on this group of extremist troglodytes here: https://alaskapublic.org/news/2025-08-08/white-supremacist-activity-is-dramatically-increasing-in-alaska-expert-says

If you see one of these, slap something else over it or rip it the hell up. That sticker is unfortunately high quality and won’t come off easy. Location - Bawden/Park intersection

How safe is it to be hiking alone around here? (I’m a woman)

Im not trying to do anything super difficult alone, but are there moderate trails that people think are okay to be alone on?

Awesome stuff happening June 10-14?

Hello all,
I’m a 40 yr old chill dude from a small town in Northern California. Also a tourist destination. I’m essentially guiding my mother up there to see her husband who does seasonal work.
I’m not looking for a tourist version of your town, but an authentic view into what it’s like.
If you know of any awesome things happening in that time frame lemme know.
All the best, and see ya soon.

Good hiking spots in May?

I’ll be in town this week for 4-5 days with friends. Since it’s still a bit early and I know it’s been rainy, what would you recommend? Looking for nice views, maybe something off the beaten path. We are bringing hiking boots but probably not much else in the way of gear.

I’ve read so many good things about Deer Mountain but didn’t know if it was too early/still snowy right now.

What happened to hovercraft tours?

I’m asking because I’ve noticed how much nicer it is to exist in my home. I live probably five blocks from their launch point and I have often fantasized about them no longer existing, that horrible, constant sound.

Are they gone forever? Did those pieces of junk finally break down beyond repair? Either way I’m relishing the peace.
