Who wore it best??
Better yet, who actually had a mullet back then? I had a version of a mullet in 7th grade. 🫣
I’ve noticed how classical music is frequently used throughout the show. It’s played during family dinners, sexy fireside scenes, in restaurants etc. For example, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons was used in one episode.
I’ve found this really refreshing. I wonder if they did that bc it was free to use in the show or for aesthetic purposes. Either way, I’ve loved it and it’s made me want to add some classical vinyls to my collection.
Anybody else notice or appreciate this?
(I’m a first time watcher and midway through season 6.)
In the S13 episode, Dedicated to the One I Love, when Paige is in surgery for the gunshot wound, the show did a montage to a song I haven’t been able to find anywhere. Can’t even find the name of the song, but the chorus lyrics include “like everything else in my life, this is gonna have to wait…”
Anyone have info about the song? Thanks in advance ☺️
What an ill-fitting nickname for somebody. Nothing about this guy says “Scooter”. He’s a professional, distinguished man. Wonder why they used that for him.
The first 3 seasons reminded me of an 80s version of This Is Us(family/relationship driven), then it took a hard turn toward prime time soapy 80s melodrama.
I really liked seeing how neighbors were portrayed in the first 3 seasons. It seems people don’t know their neighbors that well these days. That was really nostalgic.
I’m in my early 50s so never saw the show growing up. I’m at the beginning of season 5 now. This is fun and painful at the same time. I don’t know what’s more painful— the bad hair, the constant yelling, or women enabling bad male behavior. But the fun is just romping down a cultural gestalt memory lane.
I start keeping notes of things I want to post here about. Here’s my question of the day:
What are your favorite scenes of the individual characters? Here are a few of mine:
Abby: the scene during S4 when Janet Baines is questioning Abby about Ciji’s murder and tells her that Val confessed.
Donna Mills played that scene SO perfectly. The look of surprise which turns into a slight smile and barely suppressed laughter before she asks, “ValENE?” THEN she starts giggling (and when Janet reacts, Abby says “It’s just *like* her,“ yadda yadda).
I still laugh out loud every time I watch that scene. I have several other Abby scenes on my list (especially Donna and Tonya in the pond after Gary “dies,” Donna and Tonya during the “Olivia on drugs” storyline, etc) but the scene at the police station is always my number 1.
Gary: Ted Shackleford is a better actor than he gets credit for (imo). I love all his scenes with Olivia and also the twins (he was great with child actors), but my all-time favorite scene is the iconic S4 drunk Gary “We’re hurting people! We’re ruining LIIIIIIVES!!!!!” The way he trips over the mic stand (?) when he barges in yelling “ABBY!!!” is a thing of beauty! Ted’s acting as drunk and/or hungover and/or detoxing Gary was sooo good, IMO. Another favorite Gary scene is when he finally boots Abby out (S5) paraphrasing: “I don’t want reminders that I ever loved you!” Great scene.
Val: where to start? 40 years later, I’m still trying to decide which of Val’s alter personalities is my favorite (it’s a toss up between Verna and “hermit crab murderer” Val). Seriously, there are so many iconic Val scenes, I can’t pick just one or two (or even five). I love all her scenes with Lilimae and her scenes with young Olivia. Her scenes with Mac are also sweet (their friendship is one of the best surprises of the entire series, imo).
Greg: IMO, Bill Devane’s best acting during his run on the series is during Laura’s last few episodes and the immediate aftermath of her passing. He plays the broken, grieving Greg so well. I also adore his scenes with baby Meg (reading the stock reports to her 🥹).
Karen: ok, I have a favorite Karen scene, but it has nothing to do with her “acting.” I think Michele Lee is a terrific actress, and she nailed every scene she was in, except this one, which is my favorite Karen moment: I’ve seen people call it her “swan dive,” but I’ve always just called it “that time Michele Lee had to pretend Karen was shot and falls to the ground” scene. LOVE that scene and it never gets old. (Whenever I watch the scene in The Godfather 3 where Michael Corleone’s daughter gets shot on the stairs of the opera house in Rome, I think “she must have watched on repeat Karen’s ‘being shot’ scene on KL”).
I could go on all day, but (thankfully) I won’t.
Now it’s all y’all’s turn to chime in 😁😉
Ok, this is almost sacrilegious, but I thought Mac and Janet Baines had hot chemistry. As a 40+ yr devotee of Mac & Karen, I feel kinda bad for even thinking it 😂😂. Here are more unpopular opinions:
I think Abby and Peter had as good, if not better chemistry than she and Gary. And Ben had better chemistry with the reporter he worked with (can’t remember her name) than he did with Val. And finally, Paige had *much* better chemistry with Tom, than she did with Greg.
That said, I can’t imagine Karen with anyone other than Mac (although, in hindsight, they yelled at each other way too much; Mac especially). And even though it might be the most codependent relationship in tv history, Val and Gary belong together.
I’m sure this post will be downvoted into oblivion, but if anyone else has unpopular opinions, please chime in 😁
Good morning everyone,
I have started to break down knots landing on my YouTube channel. Because of my voice I will be adding captions to each live. I have started from season 1 episode 1 was done yesterday along with how I found Ms. Michele Lee and I gave some background. I’m not sure if I can promote my channel nor my content here so if someone can let me know in would greatly appreciate it. I’m doing this because I don’t see a lot of reviews or breakdowns of knots and I’m going to be looking at it from a social work mind set as well. I want to bring more attention to knots as there isn’t a lot about it in the tubes of you. So , if someone can let me know if I can share my link then I will. Thank you!
“We’re gonna run away! Away! We’re gonna run away!!”
CLUE #2: very early S7 episode
This episode features deceased family members Paul Galveston (Howard Duff) and Mary-Frances Sumner (Stacy Galina) appearing to Greg after the murder of Mary-Frances.
I wonder is the producers considered casting the original actress Danielle Brisbois to play Mary-Frances or if they considered or had the nerve to ask Constance McCashin to return to play the ghost of Laura Avery-Sumner? I know that they would not have been able to have Ava Gardner reprise her role as Ruth as she sadly passed before the episode.
Just a funny scene, however Karen is beautiful as always, and we know how Michele Lee is a very fashionable woman in real life ^^
