So you might be wondering what do I mean by it’s so under appreciated or what makes it so appealing in the first place well I have actually done great explanations and reasons as for why I think it’s a amazing ship. First their similarities both characters are strong powerful fierce and serious characters with a traumatic past that influences the way they behave and interact with others and both have a strong purpose and duty in their life they take very seriously with knuckles guarding the master emerald and shadow originally wanting to kill humanity for Maria but than shifting to saving the world for her. Then theirs their differences that allow themselves to grow from one another if they were in a relationship for example knuckles is very hot headed and abrasive person who can be too explosive or intense and very impulsive or impatient ( low key I’m the same way) and then there’s shadow who’s more focused solemn and composed and rarely shows bouts of anger or rage unless it’s something or someone he deeply cares about like Maria or saving the world and he’s very closed off emotionally and likes to keep a distance between relationships with the only friends he’s really made rouge and omega. So for that reason knuckles could learn to control his explosive energy or impatience by learning from how shadow reacts in high pressure situations and shadow can learn how to be more open and less emotionally closed off than he usually is (although he’s already kinda of working on it). Finally there’s the chaos energy point where both characters can control chaos energy and sense it to some degree but the difference in how and why is what’s the main compelling point because shadow is a artificial chaos being essentially and he was created with chaos energy imbued inside of him while knuckles after learning the teachings of his people probably from murals and him being in close contact with the master emerald he naturally gained chaos abilities like sensing it and even being able to shut off other chaos energy objects like the chaos emeralds not to mention that one ability he has in sonic adventure two where he can summon lightning from the sky so yes he can control chaos energy in really powerful ways just like shadow but the difference between them is what makes their dynamic so special it could be to see if being a artificial being made for chaos and being a naturally gifted at chaos abilities would make them realize that they have to work together or maybe some resentment or possibly even some connection and fascination between the two. I also have a theory that knuckles can become immortal just like shadow if he imbues the master emeralds chaos energy inside of him so it would add another mystical layer to their relationship. I know Ian suggested the idea of Lyric the Last Ancient being a personal Villain for Knuckles, but I was thinking of something different. Maybe another ancient Female Cobra (this series needs more Canon female villains honestly) with biological arms and I kinda was thinking her kinda being like Tamatoa in terms of similar personality like being Narcissistic, Selfish, Cruel, Materialistic etc.

I’d call her “Reva the Giant Cobra” or something

For design I could think

- The colors being Hot Pink and Purple basically every color to be colorful while still looking feminine, maybe a stylish pattern too

- The hood (The inside being like green) to represent Girl-like hair

- Her eyes are black with red pupils to give her a still threatening appearance, but also eyelashes for again, femininity

- She could wear some jeweled accessories like necklaces, golden bracelets to represent her greed and vanity.

I think this would be a unique way to bring a new female villain, snake character, and personal villain for Knuckles all at the same time.

You know he used to have rap music associated with him, but you can like rap and not be black. Also his island have pyramids and the plot of sonic 3 revolves about white man tricking him.
