FB Marketplace

I got a 24V Max universal connection trimmer on FB Marketplace with a charger and battery for $65, which is a good price for me. But my question to the veterans is, how does the wire/string affect the trimmer? I tried it at the seller's place, and it was okay, but I still bought it because, for the price, I wasn't expecting brand-new quality. However, when I got home, after cleaning it a bit and tightening the universal connection, and changing the string to a Kobalt-branded string (because the one it had wasn't installed properly and was kind of cheap), it's now great and cutting with almost brand-new quality.

I am a new homeowner, and these are my first-ever mowing tools. I decided to go with Kobalt for the price and options. I'm just seeking knowledge from the veterans of the brand, tools, and homeowners. Any tips and advice are welcome.

21 in Mower 24x2

Hey I have the 21 inch self propelled mower with the 2 24v batteries. It says that its supposed to be good for up to 1/2 acres and I have about 4000 sqft yard. The issue is that the mower barely gets through a quarter of it before the batteries run out. Also it constantly chokes and turns off. I saw that it does this to protect the motor from overheating but it happens constantly, I basically have to slow walk half the time to get it to cut without turning off.

I usually cut to 3 inches and at most my grass is at 8 inches. I had 2 24v 5A batteries and I even bought a spare pair of 24v 6A batteries and even with both sets, I can do like 70-80% of the yard.

Is this normal or is my mower just defective? Thought this would be enough based on the specs but honestly its becoming such a pain to cut that Im about to get rid of it and either pay someone or go with a completely different brand?

48v Max String Trimmer

I finally was able to get one and it rips! I've used the 24v and the 80v and I'd say the 48v is as good as the 80v. You will need to invest in a lot of batteries if you do not want to take long breaks between cuts. With the 2 3ah batteries and 4 4ah batteries, 2 fast chargers and the 65w adapter that came with it I still have to stop cutting and let the batteries charge.

It did come with the new batteries that have the USB c ports built in with a sticker over the port and a plastic insert in the port, the ports do work.

Good Deal?

Got this bundle yesterday, going to be trying them later in the afternoon. Any thoughts on them? These batteries are the ones after the recall with the covered Type C.

Factory defect

Here's a good one I found the other day. Took it to customer service and they damaged it out.

Buying In?

I know I’m in the Kobalt thread but I’d still love to get some opinions on Kobalt.

I’ve previously been all in on Dewalt. Including their 20v outdoor equipment.

Well, for me personally I can’t justify the price anymore. I use the tools for hobby working, DIY fixes, and caring for the lawn. But not enough to be paying what the pros pay.

So, how does everyone like them? Mowers, weed eaters, drills, saws? Even smaller things like inflators, fans, etc.

I’d love your input.

Broken tool, Lowes said call number

I have a pair of small diagonal cutters that the spring snapped on. I took them to the local Lowe's and they didn't know if they had a lifetime warranty or not. After some research they determined they could replace with only the exact same one, if available. It is 15 years old, so of course an identical one isn't available, but a similar one is available. They said that I had to contact Kobalt Customer service. That's a new one for me and makes me want to dump all my Kobalt tools.

Is this the process? They previously just given me a new tool of similar design on the spot.

Getting tired of hot batteries.

Decided to take matters into my own hands. If this works I'll 3D print a new cover flap that's a bit more elegant.

Thoughts on if I should be blowing air in or exhausting it out? I'm going to try exhaust first.

36 Inch Tool Box?

Reviews from this seem overall positive, but no stores near me carry this in stock. Anyone have first-hand experience with this tool box? I currently have one of the old school brushed metal/bare metal 27” combos from Kobalt that has served me well for a long time, but during a recent move the movers somehow bent the entire bottom of the cart causing the wheels to fold under and the bottom drawer to not work any longer.

I picked up a 42” Heavy Duty Husky combo for around the same price, but it just seems like too much tool box. Just a hobbyist working on my cars, and the 27” fit most of my stuff, but it was kinda crowded. The 36” seems to strike a balance between the two. I just wish something other than blue or red was in stock (the white or dark gray look really good).

I had initially thought about going for a US General box, but the latches are straight garbage and they do not have soft close like the Kobalt.

Kobalt Edger Guiding Plate

Just bought a Kolbalt Edger today and immediately was confused by how to get the wheel to touch the ground. Countless searches found a few handful of people with this exact issue with no resolution. It makes me think some might’ve been assembled wrong. The guiding plate sits an inch below the wheel so scrapes the ground while the wheel hangs in the air. The depth adjustments do nothing as it’s a solid piece of metal and regardless what depth you set it to the plate is always an inch below the wheel as they’re all on the same piece of metal. It also can’t be adjusted as it’s welded closed. Has anyone experienced this and if so was there a solution?

New impact coming?

I saw a post a while back about a new jigsaw, circular saw, and smaller 1/4 inch impact coming. I have the circular saw. My jigsaw still works fine. I really would like a more compact impact. I'm a full time carpenter and do a lot of framing and sometimes another inch of clearance would let me angle the screw where I want instead of where I can.

Or did I dream that whole thing?
