Been going to the gym in andorra Philadelphia for six months now... and everyone is really nice. for community reasons i dont love how everyone has their headphones on, but that's a me thing and not a them thing. Today i had my first meat head douche bag encounter, which was so petty...

...and also minor. Some guy was standing at one trx pull up bar but kind of straddling two and a half stations. i wanted to use that third half-blocked station. of note he was idle, not working anything. he had headphones in, and his bag and water bottle was in my landing zone.

I ask if he's using this third pull up bar and he goes "no" but his stuff is in the way. so i point at the stuff. he harumfs and moves the bag and i moved the water bottle.

"don't touch my stuff," he goes.

Anyway, i get it maybe i should have waited for two seconds to let him move the object but i was trying to help. I understand leaving stuff at a station for temporary dibbs, whilst resting between sets or whatever. But I feel like his hogging multiple stations with his inanimate objects, while not using them, was a bigger social faux pa (sp?) than me moving the water bottle 15 inches.

that's it. sorry bro, if you are a germiphobe or something. but if you don't want people touching your shit at the gym don't leave it in the way.

end scene.

Am I being Scammed or What should I do???

Sorry this might be very dumb, but i feel like i’m getting ripped off big time at LAFitness and i don’t know what to do??
For starters I have been coming to this specific gym since i was 18. I got my membership right out of high school since it was a 4 min drive compared to other gyms which would be a 20-30 min drive.
When i first got my membership, i told them i just wanted a single club and a guest pass, which they told me would be $42 a month with the annual fee of $68. I payed a starting fee of over $200 that day (can’t remember the specific number since it was over 7 years ago, but it was definitely over $200).
Fast forward two months ago, i called to see if i could change my pass and just remove my guest pass since i wasn’t using it as much as i thought i would. The man told me we could do that by cancelling my current pass and pretty much open a new one with the new terms. He even asked me if i still wanted the multi club pass, which confused me because this whole time i thought i could only use one gym since that’s what was on my contract. He explained that i had multi club and the guest pass. This didn’t upset me as much as i feel like it should’ve but i just brushed it off and continued with trying to remove the guest pass. The man told me it would be $19.99 a month with an annual fee of $68, that i just had to pay $180 that day to restart my account…
I agreed carelessly thinking it would all stay the same as before just without the guest pass.
He emailed me the contract and i realized it said “The initial or minimum length of this contract is _______2months______________________, subject to the
cancellation and renewal provisions herein.” i don’t know why when i first read it i thought it meant i had to use it for 2 months until I decided to cancel.
Fast forward to today, i received an email saying my membership is cancelled and if i wanna continue using it i have to pay another initial fee of $150 and my monthly payments would be $38.
All i wanted was them to remove my guest pass, i regret doing this over the phone because i feel dumb for not double checking everything. On the phone, he never mentioned that the membership was only for 2 months. He never mentioned that i would have to pay another initial fee if i wanted to continue going and that it would be $38/monthly after those 2 months. On the phone he even was telling me how paying the initial fee of $180 there would be better in the long run to change my membership pass to $19.99/monthly and to look at it like an investment because now i won’t be paying $42 a month. I didnt even sign the contract, i thought i would go in person to sign it but he signed it and emailed me.
Overall, i feel extremely dumb and disappointed and don’t know what to do. I am going to go later today and see what i can do.
Any suggestions or advice?? i don’t want to change gyms to a far one but i don’t want to deal with this.

What irks you at the gym?

There's this guy that will hog a squat rack. Leave for 10 mins to go to the studio room to do some core exercises, then go to another machine, and then come back to the squat rack. He'll leave his water bottle at the squat rack to let people know that someone is using it. He will literally be there for like 50 minutes. I feel like it's inconsiderate as people are waiting to use machines and you're taking longer and hogging multiple. Any other things that annoy you at the gym?

Downers Grove South, Illinois

Just found out they will be closing the location I’ve been going to. Beyond bummed. Really don’t understand how mgmt makes some of these decisions because this location is always packed. Upkeep and maintenance definitely could have been better, but no one really complained. They have yet to make an official announcement but has been confirmed by multiple employees.

My mom slipped on oil at LA Fitness and staff did nothing to help her

My mom went to LA Fitness in Newmarket on Tuesday and slipped on a patch of oil near the reception desk.

Two employees saw it happen, but neither of them came over to help her. She had to pull herself up and sit on a nearby chair to check if she was injured.

While she was sitting there, the same employees went over to the spill, whispered to each other that it's slippery, and then just walked away without properly cleaning it up or asking if she was okay

It just felt really wrong, but I searched it up, and I don't think I can do anything about it. I’m not sure what the usual process is in situations like this, but when I called them they said their manager would call us back but they never did and its been 3 days.

I'm just not sure what to do, we've been going here for over 4 years and it's just so upsetting. Does anyone have any advice?

LA Fitness do better please

I’ve been with you all for 6 months and it’s constant calls and text to sign up for overpriced personal training. Each time I say I’m not interested please stop calling and texting me. The message is a really bad sales script every time. Poor managers that have to do this as part of their job. Never mind the “Id love to offer you a **paid** session.” AI generated message, tacky. Off to a good start? I’ve been working out for yeas and years.

More Locations Closing --

Ive been hopping around from gym to gym with one closing after another. It seems when I finally settle in, a notice of the location permanently closing goes up AGAIN!
It's very discouraging because you do get a sense of community which is completely destroyed every. Single. Time. Front desk people come and go. Not much point getting to know them by name, but other members you train with, and greet everyday is another story. I love how people are supportive of one another, and greet each other enthusiastically day in and day out.
Then the club closes and you never see them again. In a few days, my newest regular location will be gone. Last time I visited, I witnessed many tearful departures -- it was really sad.
The worst part is it's all about GREED. They buy up the competition just to shut it down, corner the market, then roll-out the NEW, inflated prices.
Many of my now closed locations are listed as "coming soon" on the Club Studio website, LA Fitness's exclusive, high-end, luxury fitness boutique. I honestly hope it falls flat on it's face, and it's failure bring with it a renewed, heathy business competition among competing health clubs. Watching them buy up all the local gyms and then closing them has been frustratingly maddening. All I want is a little stability, not to have to worry about the next closure, or massive price increase.

Seen or heard sex in locker rooms.

Hi all !! Have any woman or men ever seen or heard any type of sex going on in your gyms. Man mainly could see something but I would like to know if any women have ever heard someone's vibrator sounds while in the sauna. Have you ever seen someone wearing a butt plug and or using a dildo in the showers and heard her moaning softly. Have worn mine and was wondering would I turn heads and get some nice comments. Would you turn me in if you saw or heard me playing with toys.

Who enforces the rules at these gyms? Because staff told me that's my job. No thanks.

Recently asked staff to talk to someone about having their bag on the gym floor and their s*** spread out all over. Spoke to the staff who said this guy is a problem offender. I was told the gym has a three strike rule, and it's my job to say something to the other gym member and that would count as one strike.

It sounds a little ridiculous to me that it's my job to enforce the rules. Plus, so any member who says they told another member something has one strike against them? Something tells me that's not how you guys work.

Things like this are what's going to take my gym downhill. Frankly, I'm not going to go up to the guy benching more than my body weight it was also walking around using four different machines at once like he cares about nobody, and tell him he shouldn't leave his stuff out. Not my job. Don't want my teeth knocked out in a parking lot.

How do I get this resolved? If the staff literally are going to tell me they won't do anything even though they see the problem.

Tripods on the Floor and other rude member behavior

Why do so many people need to video themselves now? It’s incredibly rude and screams insecurity. And what’s even more rude are members who need to FaceTime and talk on their phones like idiots while working out. Are every gyms like this? I know LA Fitness does not attract the best clientele, but it’s getting out of hand.

Tips on cancelling Personal trainer lessons?

I heard that this gym is notorious for NOT cancelling personal training plans when they should. I for sure know my contract is going to end on the 16th. And I really can’t afford to be contracted and paying again for 6 months. Any tips other than showing up day when contract ends and asking them to do it?

Adding plates to machines

is there a particular way to ask for more weight on machines? is that something that’s ever done? maxed a couple out and I’d love to go higher not just do more reps.

Snot rockets in the sink in locker room

Go to my local LA fitness in the evening for my workout and getting into the locker room I see a dude with his head in the sink blowing snot rockets from his nose into the sink that everyone else uses to wash hands. Not into a paper towel like a normal person just blasting boogers in the bowl. Where do these people come from? What do they do at home? Use a tissue or paper towel. And if you shower or sauna or steam, use a towel not a million paper towels to dry off!! Why are people so gross and inconsiderate?

LA Fitness Crossroads (Irvine) is fine with neo-Nazis. Corporate confirmed that nazi gear is allowed.

Just an FYI, I had a rather disappointing experience with LA Fitness. Nazi gear is fine there.

I saw this hero wearing a neo-Nazi sweatshirt on multiple occasions at LA Fitness Crossroads in Irvine.

The brand is Curb Stomp MFG, which is an exclusively neo-Nazi branded attire website (https://curbstompmfg.com) (https://x.com/CurbStompMFG). Their website is now private and requires a log-in.

I straight-up asked him if that was a neo-Nazi sweatshirt, and he proudly said yes, and that he specifically hates Israel. Ok, I didn't ask about Israel, but good to know. I was honestly hoping (but doubting) that he didn't realize what he was wearing, but he doubled down. My guess is he thought I would agree with him (I don't).

I didn't escalate, and I immediately notified the front desk. Front desk employees told me that they really couldn't do anything since "there's a guy that wears OnlyFans shirts." I expressed my concern that wearing neo-Nazi attire is not remotely the same thing as wearing OnlyFans gear. The employees told me that a manager was unavailable, but they would log it in both our accounts and get back to me. Reported it again after seeing the same thing a few days later.

Management never contacted me, so after a week, I tried contacting them. I was initially told that the managers were busy, and every call, I was told that a manager would call me "within an hour." After seven separate phone calls over several days and being forgotten on hold several times, I was eventually told that a manager would not speak to me about this and my only recourse was to email corporate. I did, and their response is in the second photo.

Apparently, neo-Nazi gear is not "explicit." I asked for clarification on what "explicit" means under their policy, as this is explicit neo-Nazi merch. But maybe since there are no boobies, the children are safe in their eyes. I never got a further response, so I decided to cancel my membership.

I understand a policy of freedom of expression (not to be confused with a constitutional right, which is different than a private company's policy). However, I don't want to support a business that is fine with overt Nazis.

Sucks. I previously liked the gym. Now I guess I need to find another one.

Shout out to Irvine LA Fitness for being so accommodating to my discriminated group.

Hello, I want to think this proud organization for sticking up for this gentlemen who was discriminated against by customers. People were calling him a “Nazi” and wanted him removed for wearing an offensive shirt. Who’s the Nazis now? Well the guy in the Nazi shirt. The woke mob then cried to go to management to get Nazi symbols BANNED! But our leadership would not back down to the woke mob and clarified that swastikas and other Nazi symbols are ALLOWED at LA Fitness. Thank you all for supporting the Nazis and allowing them a safe space where they can wear whatever they want.

(This post was written in angry sarcasm, Nazis should not be allowed in public or in any business. Shame on la fitness for openly allowing swastikas into their gym)

Can’t get out of PT training membership with a chronic back pain referral from doctor. What to do?

Like the title says. I’m at a loss for what to do now and I am beyond frustrated. I’ve called the gym, and they said I must come in person to cancel. I called corporate twice, each time they’ve been rude. The first time I called, they said I needed proof and a valid disability with a doctors note. I said ok, got the proof, got a referral from my doctor for chronic lower back pain, as well as a confirmed appointment for pain management. So I called back the second time, told them the situation, they told me to email it in, and that they had to end the call. They then told me they would call back tomorrow (which is now today) and I never received a call back.

What can I do to end the membership and get out the contract? It literally hurts to fucking get out of bed in the morning. I can’t work out.

I actually like LA Fitness

As the popular gym in the US, LA FITNESS is actually pretty good. Yeah, we bitch and complain about cleanliness, broken equipment, saunas that go down for long periods of time, pools that are often closed but reality is LAF is a good gym.

They have all the equipment one could need, they have programs to help folks start, like personal training. They offers classes of all kinds and group instruction. The amenities are terrific for the price point, and many locations have decent sized crowds. Some are overcrowded, I get it, but overall, they are a good club.

Some complaints are legit, like dirty showers but a lot of the complaints can passed along to the members, many of whom are disgusting. Bad behavior in the sauna (shaving et al), not returning weights to where they belong, abusing machinery, not wiping down equipment, literring with water bottles or disinfecting wipes, etc.

Overall, I'm happy I'm a member and I'm satisfied with the amount I pay. I can go to Equinox or Lifetime and pay an exorbitant amount of money but still have some of the same issues.

Lets cut LAF break, Ok?

Can I cancel a personal training contract due to issues with staff?

I joined LA Fitness on the 2nd and signed a personal training contract on the 4th. I wanted a personal trainer, it was my intent joining the gym, and I’ve had personal training in the past with positive experiences. It’s $480/month for 6 months, 2x/week.

My first day was on the 5th and it was terrible - the trainer was over 15 minutes late, nobody could find him, and when he finally showed up he didn’t acknowledge or apologize for being late and started working out immediately. Didn’t ask anything about me and didn’t use the handy dandy notebook you’re given that the trainers fill out. He ended the session after 15 minutes, so I didn’t get my full 30-minute session, and then said see you next week. I spoke with the person who signed me up, and he gave me a new trainer.

I met with the new trainer Saturday, and I really like him a lot; however, I haven’t heard from him to schedule my next session. I’m incredibly frustrated and angry because I paid a lot of money, and so far I’m not getting anything out of it. It feels like while I have stuck to the expectations and “rules” to the contract, they are not meeting the contract agreement on their end, and I don’t believe that’s fair.

Is it possible I can get out of the contract due to poor service and then not following what we agreed upon?
