First date in a long time

In a week, my wife and I get to have our first date in over a year. We'll be out and about in Leamington - what are the best restaurants and cocktail bars, no expense spared?

Caveat: no bangin' music, no giant queues, no bouncers. Two people in their mid-40s, not trying to rage!

Big screen in Victoria Park

Does anyone know what the big screen is for that’s been put up in Victoria park? Hoping it’s for the World Cup but seems a little early?

Cheap options to furnish a house in the Leamington Spa area?

I’m in the final stages of buying a house near Gaydon, but I’ve spent most of the last 16 years living abroad, so I’m basically starting from scratch furniture-wise.

We’re looking for affordable short-term options while we recover from the financial hit of buying the house.

Things we’re currently looking for include:
Furniture (beds, sofa, dining table/chairs, etc.)
Appliances/electronics (fridge, TV, etc.)

Does anyone have recommendations for:
• Charity shops
• Second-hand furniture places
• Facebook groups/marketplaces

Delivery on weekends would be a massive bonus.

Thanks in advance!

Building a better way to find part-time work at Warwick - would you use this?

Hey everyone,

I'm exploring an idea for a student gig work platform at Warwick and Coventry.

The problem I'm trying to solve: Finding part-time work as a student sucks. Most jobs want 15+ hour commitments, applications take forever, and the whole process feels outdated.

What I'm thinking: An app where you can pick up short shifts (2-4 hours) at campus bars, events, and local businesses - book on your phone, get paid quickly, no long-term commitment.

Hey reddit mods, this is a survey not an advert so chill out!!!

Before I build this - I have questions:

  1. Do you currently work part-time? How did you find your job?

  2. What's the biggest pain point - finding work, scheduling around lectures, or something else?

  3. Would you use an app for booking short shifts, or is there a better solution I'm missing?

  4. Do you think employers will be open to using something like this?

I'm starting at Warwick in September and genuinely need to figure this out for myself too. If you're willing to share your experience (or just want to hear what I build), check comments for the link

Thanks!

Cycling to Warwick

Hi everyone! I’m looking to move to the area soon to work at Warwick Hospital. I don’t have a car, so I’d be relying on cycling and buses.

I’m quite a nervous cyclist and prefer dedicated cycle paths or quiet residential roads rather than busy traffic. Does anyone cycle to the hospital from Leamington or nearby, and would you say it’s manageable/safe for less confident cyclists?

Would really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Walking to Chesterton Windmill

Hi,

Has anyone walked from Leamington to Chesterton Windmill? Ideally I'd go down golf lane and down the footpath that takes you to the fossway. I would then walk along the fossway to chesterton road and up chesterton road. The problem is walking along the side of the fossway seems like a death trap, grass verges maybe but cars and big lorries going crazy speed. Chesterton road also seems to have no footpath or grass verges for some of it but maybe the road is quieter so I can walk up the side of it, still seems a bit death trappy.

I had a look on some old footpath maps of warwickshire and it says it used to be a public footpath but maybe that just meant walking up the road and maybe that all went when we decided cars are the best and the roads were expanded.

Seems weird that the whitnash footpath going from golf lane -> fossway just stops there and there is no footpath the other side.

Anyone done it? Maybe walked through some fields? Other option is getting a bus to harbury and walking that side, I presume that is doable?

Ideally I would walk this red line, obviously not really doable and even the 2 routes google maps offers me seem to be walking up the side of fairly busy roads with no footpath or verges.

Thanks.
