What tests for a 2026 LG QNED86B "mini-led" TV ?

Hello everyone!
I hear everything about the LG QNED86B "mini-led" tv:

Edge-lit, light bleeding, full back-light, perfect picture, awful performance, HDR is good, HDR is bad, buy, don't buy... 🤯

I ordered a 50" model and I'll be able to return it within two weeks if I'm not happy.
In the mean-time, what tests should I do to bring enought knowledge about this model to the community and be sure of its performance.

I consider "edge-lit" test the main priority but I may be wrong (and HDR things).
Give me suggestions and I'll take pictures.

To be received on August the 20th.

PS : I don't have much knowledge about TVs and screens in general. I'll mainly use it connected to my PC (RTX 4070 super).

Open Box 77” C5

[Canadian $$$!]

Hey all, just snagged this deal off of Best Buy for an open box 77” C5.

Seller says to inspect the TV as soon as I get it, so I can return it to them within 14 days.

This is my first OLED. Can you all let me know what I need to look out for, inspect, test, etc. to ensure my open box Tv is good.

Thanks!

LG QNED Sign In To Watch??

I have three LG TVs, which have been great so today I bought a QNED and it would not even let me watch a thing on it until I signed up for their LG ThinQ app. It was such a pain because it assumed I had a smart phone which I do but the TV was for my 92-year-old father who does not. It kept turning itself on and off again and when it was on, there was like a little bit lighter black screen than when it was off and it was really difficult to tell if it was on or not, but then it would turn off. I finally signed up for that app and went to sign into his Netflix account and of course it wouldn’t allow me to download it unless I was signed into thinQ app I mean, this is really nanny state. The TV no longer comes with Netflix, prime, etc., on it you have to download after signing into their app. It then proceeded to download my Netflix rather than my dad‘s Netflix. Them for some reason it wanted to sign into an old Amazon account that I use for my Kindle. It was a complete and utter mess and 3 hours of my life that I won’t get back. We never did get to stream anything because it kept turning itself off and on, but we couldn’t tell whether it was off or on, so we boxed it back up and took it back because if I can’t figure it out, my dad certainly won’t be able to and my parents had me when they were old, so I’m not that old. But I guess I’m too old for this TV. Have others had the same problem with this particular TV? Do any of the new LG TVs come already loaded and allow you to bypass signing into their own app in order to watch TV? My three other LG TVs do and were usable straight out of the box. Remember when you used to turn the TV on and then be able to change the channel? Give me some ideas thanks guys.

LG 83” M3 vs G5/G6 (upgrading from 65” QLED)

I’m upgrading from a 65” Samsung Q60R QLED to an 83” LG OLED and trying to decide between two options:

- LG 83” M3 (2023): about $3,400 USD
- LG 83” G5/G6: about $5,450 to $6,850 USD

(^ These are prices where I live, converted to USD)

The M3 is a very good deal (for me especially where I live), but the G5/G6 would cost almost twice as much. Money isn’t the main issue, but I’m trying to understand whether the difference is actually worth it in real-world use.

I know the newer G5/G6 should be brighter and have newer panel technology, processing, and better reflection handling. However, the M3 would still be a huge upgrade from my current 65” QLED, especially because I’d be moving to a much larger OLED.

For people who have compared these generations, would you pay the extra $2,000 to $3,400 for the G5/G6, or is the M3 already enough for movies (4K Blu Rays), and gaming (PS5 Pro, Series X, Switch 2), and general use?

I also have several HDMI devices, so the M3’s three HDMI ports versus four on the G5/G6 wouldn’t be enough either way. I’d probably use an HDMI 2.1 switch or sm

I’d love to hear real-world opinions, especially from anyone who upgraded from a 65” TV to an 83” OLED.

(Also I say G5/G6 since right now only G5 available where I live but G6 should be available here soon for same-ish prices as current G5)

LG C6 HDMI black screen bug

Hi

I got the 65" C6 about 2 months ago (all up to date), and I am running into something that is very annoying.

Basically, if I use my PC and run it at 165 Hz, it messes with the other HDMI ports. So when I turn my PC off and switch over to the HDMI I run my Panasonic UB820 through, I get a black screen, but I get sound. The odd thing is, if I go back to the home screen and look at the "Recent" window, I can see my player working (showing the film), but when I click on it, it's a black screen again.

I TRIED

5 HDMI cables.

TV reset.

Player reset.

All the HDMI ports.

Running directly to the TV and trying to run it from the AV.

Many, many settings.

THE ONLY FIXES

Unplug the HDMI and move it to another HDMI port (every time this happens).

Unplug the TV for 10+ seconds.

Hold down the power button on the remote for about 15 seconds, then turn the TV back on.

Leave the TV off for at least one hour.

I would like to think it is software, but after looking online, this seems to have been an issue since the C4, and the word there was don't run 144Hz; use 120Hz.

Hdmi auto switching madness

Anyone else's lg TV seem to have no idea what HDMI port to switch to when devices are switched on.

So for example I have an Xbox in port 4, I switch it on, the TV tells me Xbox is available on 4 then proceeds to change to hdmi 2. This can happen as well if the TV is off, I switch on the Xbox, the TV turns on but decides a completely different port is the one to switch to.

Or more annoyingly I will be watching my fire stick on hdmi3, switch on my Xbox and the TV will just sit flicking between the two ports until I restart the TV and then manually select port 4

I really like the rest of this telly but this is doing my nut in.

Has anyone seen this, or hopefully solved this?

How to connect LG OLED65C8AUA , LG s70str soundbar and moto motion sofa

Does anyone know if I can connect LG s70str soundbar and a moto motion sofa to my older
LG OLED65C8AUA tv? I have the soundbar working, but I can’t get any sound or vibration from the sofa. I’ve been using AI to tell me how to connect them and nothing has worked. I tried using an optical cable from the sofa to the optical port on the back of the tv but no sound from the sofa. It has told me to try several pieces of equipment from tech digital optical audio 1x3 splitter JTD-42, Cable Matters 48Gbps HDMI audio extractor with eArc, ezcoo 4K@120Hz HDMI 2.1 Switch 2 in 1 Out with Audio Extractor VRR ALLM HDCP2.3 ARC eARC HDR CEC SPDlF Optical Audio Out D-o-l-b-y Digital EDID for PS5 Xbox NVIDIA AMD, and PROZOR 192kHz Digital to Analog Audio Converter - Converts Dolby AC-3 DTS 5.1CH Digital Audio to Stereo Analog Output, Optical to L/R DAC Decoder, DAC Converter SPDIF TOSLINK to Stereo L/R & 3.5mm , and nothing has worked. I read somewhere where this older model will only recognize 1 sound out method and didn’t know if this was the issue and if it was if there is a work around for it. I am a total novice with this and any advice I could get would be much appreciated. Thank you for your help.

LG C6H + YouTube

Long time subscriber to YouTube Premium here. I just bought an LG C6H and registered an account with LG (which seem required to use services). YouTube is now serving ads regularly as if I’m not paying for premium. I’ve logged out and in. Restarted. Gemini seems to claim it’s an ongoing error but I can’t find any links to support it.

LG looks great for everything but sports, help please

Just bought the 75" Class 84B Series QNED evo Al Mini LED 4K Smart webOS TV (2026) at $1000 from Best Buy and I’m pretty underwhelmed and thinking of exchanging it. It looks phenomenal for video games at 120hz, 4k movies, but the moment I try to watch sports through YouTube TV or YouTube highlight videos it looks HORRIBLE. I’ve tried a lot of different setting changes and watching through my Xbox series X and Roku express 4K with no improvements. I watch a ton of NFL and NBA so I can’t have such a blurry picture where I can barely see the jersey numbers when they are zoomed out on the field. I know a lot of sports streaming are capped at 1080p, but this new tv makes it look way worse than my old crappy Sharp from like 2017 seemingly no matter what settings I mess with.

An employee at Best Buy suggested exchanging it for the Sony - 65" Class BRAVIA 5 Mini LED 4K UHD Smart
Google TV (2025) for $1500. He believed that the upgraded processing could handle the lower quality content of sports streaming.

This is by far the most expensive TV I’ve ever bought, and would really appreciate any suggestions on either improving the quality on my current LG, if this SONY upgrade is the right move, or if there’s another TV people would recommend that can handle gaming AND sports. Thanks!

LG C5 burn in after a month?

I noticed this hours and ago and ran a pixel clean, it then fixed itself for a few but its back. I do have a skylight above it and of course try to reduce light as much as possible from hitting the tv, and from observation it isn’t the top right that gets hit by light, especially in such a weird square shape… and advice? i’ve only had the tv for a month.

LG G4 DV Raised Blacks?

What's with the raised blacks with Dolby vision?

Running the latest G4 firmware, watching Silo TV series via Shield Pro and using Filmmaker mode. I see DV kicks in, and when there's the AppleTV logo, I clearly see dark grey background. Does it happen to anyone here as well?

LG UA7100 TV Problems

I am not looking for rants, just whether other people have constant problems with their similar LG TV and/or if you have a TV with no problems. And if you have solved this problem.

Here are my problems: slow or no loading . I have fiber optic wifi with good speeds - 732Mp/s download, 496Mp/s upload and 9.6 latency and I can load and stream shows from Netflix, my local PBS, You Tube and Prime without any problems or delays. My TV was working fairly well for a month or so once we got the location issue worked out. Now it will not load shows. I went through a recent Live Chat round. They asked me to toggle off the Quick Start + and then things seemed to work for two days. Now I can access the apps, they load slowly but they load. But then when I choose a show to watch it will not load. It spins at 25% or blinks buttons at me but then says "something went wrong" or goes black or, with You Tube, opens slowly and then stops during play, loads slowly, unwatchable.

My software says it is up to date. I have unplugged and let it sit and replugged it in. I would prefer not to uninstall and reinstall the apps that I use. I have deleted apps that I don't use. I have checked my wifi connection (looks functional), location, time zone. I really do not want to be a technician, I just want to watch a few shows in the evening!

I will call Costco tech as well as LG and may end up returning the TV if this keeps being a problem. Thanks for anything constructive that you might know.
