Biomed WAM to dentistry LATROBE HELP

Guys, I want some legitamite advice, I’m a rural applicant and doing 1st year biomed at Latrobe and wanting to transfer into dentistry and I think my WAM this year will be around 82, I heard people from last year who got into dentistry got an 88 and a 87 WAM and those were the 2 highest, if in my cohort the highest is 85,84 or 84, 83 would they give out offers to the two highest scores like last year or who they deem it too low and not let anyone in this year? I really need help from anyone who’s gotten into Latrobe dentistry and if there’s no hope and if I apply to oral health would I get in or also no?

Why is dental science (honours) not coming up in direct application?

I’m trying to apply directly to Bachelor of Dental Science (honours). I’m currently studying a bachelor degree (honours) at RMIT and I’ve already graduated another undergrad in 2023. The course isn’t coming up at all when I filter or search it. Does anyone know why this might be? I’ve tried to get in contact with the uni but haven’t heard anything back yet. TIA

Monash or La Trobe for Speech Pathology?

Hey everyone,

I applied for the bachelor of speech pathology (honours) at Monash and La Trobe as an international student and have received an unconditional offer from La Trobe (waiting for Monash to respond).

I'm juggling between the two, which one should I choose to study at? I would appreciate your guys' advice.

Trying to figure out what young Australians actually want from a money app

I'm currently at Uni and trying to build a small app called Larna. It's just me at the moment. It connects to your bank through Australia's open banking system, sorts your spending automatically, and tries to tell you something useful about it. No manual entry, no spreadsheets.

Before I build any more of it I want to know what people actually need instead of being stuck with what I assume they need. I've. tried to put together a short survey its under 5 minutes, anonymous, no bank details, nothing to sign up for.

What I'm hoping to learn: what your bank's app already does well, where it falls short, and which features are worth building versus which ones sound good and would never get used. Honest answers help me far more than encouraging ones. If something on the list sounds pointless, say so.

These answers go straight into what gets built. It'll be free for uni students. Please let me know if you have any feedback for the survey as well.

Also happy to post a summary of the results back here once responses are in.

I'm Sick of Writing Assignments About AI

Hello,

Is anyone else getting sick of writing about AI for assignments? I am not talking about those little AI academic quizzes you do at the start of a subject, I am talking about essay topics and stuff.

In my psychology subject this semester we have to write about emotions and AI (worth 40% of my grade) and my psych essay last semester was about cognition and AI (34% of my grade).

Even in my physiology class this semester, we had to write an abstract in groups during class time and the teachers actively encouraged us to use AI for the assignment. She said it would be suspicious if there was more than half of the class that didn't use AI. So my group felt pressured to use AI even though we didn't want to.

I hate how much money La Trobe has spent on implementing AI into education and how much more time teachers have to take to teach us about the ✨benefits✨ of using AI instead of understanding what students actually want to learn

Has anyone else had that experience?

FIT5222 ☕

We are absolutely cooked. 💀

Context:

The uni is deadass cheaping out and cutting our standard 2-hour seminars down to 1 hour. The tutor is out here speedrunning the slides, sweating trying to finish, and STILL can't get through the content.

And the assessment structure? Pure evil.

Here is what we're dealing with:

2 in-class CLOSED BOOK tests

2 massive assignments (with infinite stages)

But wait, it gets worse. The assignments have a literal leaderboard. We aren’t even graded against a standard rubric; our marks are curved against whatever academic weapon in the class gets the highest score. Make it make sense 🫠

On top of that, each assignment requires us to film demonstration videos AND do face-to-face interviews.

They’re acting like this is the only unit we’re taking this semester and we don't have lives outside of it.

I’ve attached 3 screenshots of the Ed posts drama. Has anyone dealt with a unit coordinator doing this before? What do we even do here do we escalate this to the student union? Guide us pls. 🙏

TL;DR: Uni cut seminar times in half, the tutor is rushing content, and we are being graded Hunger Games style against the top student. Send help.

Halls of residence

Hey all! What hall do you guys think is best in Bundoora? I was looking at Glenn college and it gives kinda nerd vibes ( which is good). Would love if someone could give a brief overview of the vibes of each college/pros and cons 💕

Semester 2 Exams

Many subjects started announcing open-book, uninvigilated exams in the business school. Does anyone know why? Last semester, this happened, and they said it was a technical issue. So what is it now? Do you feel you are learning anything? All tests are uninvigilated, with ChatGPT use allowed; assignments are the same, and now final exams again. A whole subject at La Trobe takes 1-2 minutes per test quiz with ChatGPT, 15 - 20 minutes for a week assignment via ChatGPT, and for a final maybe 15 minutes for a 2-hour assignment with ChatGPT tops.

working in group assignment at the school = cheating like tests, all ai . is this the image of a top 250 uni.

is this how it is for a top 6% university? aacsb accredited? CPA accredited? What a joke. Can the president or VC explain how I can compete with other good uni graduates or are you making us feel good about learning nothing while taking our money. Please let me know what ou think and how to go about this, it s so difficult to change uni and get a new coe for internationals

Bachelors of dental science

Hey! my bf is an international student doing a foundation course in la trobe rn and hopes to do dental science next year, does anyone know how many international student places there are / how competitive it is to get in / what the chances are? I'm in med in nz and I know that for us international pathway is a lil less competitive than general entry.

Deciding between RMIT and La Trobe

I’m a bio major and I’m transferring to an Australian university. I know that in rankings RMIT is higher but it’s also better known for tech and I’ve been told by some that La Trobe is better for sciences. Any unbiased insight would be useful :)
