The special edition of Air Force One is a rotter

I believe it's widely known but I'm here to confirm yet again, it's a rotter. It's honestly not too distracting. I'd call it light. I was able to watch the whole movie without it driving me crazy.

My disc also must be warped because I get some crosstalk half way into side 1 and 2 (I swear every disc I've purchased from goodwill has been warped even when it looks okay to my naked eye).

The CAV disc has rot too but it's light

magnavox laserdisc player

I bought this magnavox laserdisc player for $100 from my local record store. My partner and I tried setting it up to my 2014 vizio led tv. (for reference I also have my Panasonic vhs/dvd Player set up to this tv through the components too.) When setting up the player it turns on you can hear the disc spinner but the screen is just blue. any help? also thoughts and opinions on this player as well as history would be greatly appreciated.

Newest addition: LD-V2200

The time between when I pressed play and the player went from a blue screen to an image was probably the most suspenseful 15 seconds of my year.

I have been working on a little side project in the corner next to my work desk. What started as a single B&W TV hooked up to a CED player in September is now 5 TVs hooked up to a CED, VCR and now laserdisc! Betamax is the last missing piece.

Gundam Score

Found on Mercari and arrived sometime in the middle of the night. I’m not sure yet if these include all discs of each series. The volume numbers of each are consecutive so I’m hoping they are full sets.
- 0080: War in the Pocket - 12 discs
- Z - 12 discs
- W - 6 discs
- 0083: Stardust Memory - 13 discs
- F91 - 1 disc
- Mobile Suit Gundam - movies I, II, III and Char’s Counterattack

S201 how to property remove tray

I pickup a S201 for practically nothing because the tray isn't working. It will open about 75% of the way and close but then its not engaging the lift of the laser assembly. Im pretty sure it just needs some slight adjustments however this tray is designed unlike any of the other players I've encountered int he past.

I cant quite figure out how to pull the tray out. There is a clip on one side that doesn't actually clip on to anything and no clip on the other side. Nothing looks broken off either.

Today's Pickups

Went to the indie video game store that I don't work at because they also sell Laserdiscs and VHS.

These are what I grabbed, and I must say I'm pretty stoked on the Japanese copy of Cyclone Z (Dragons Forever) and 12 Monkeys, The Frighteners, and Starship Troopes absolutely made my day.

A black-and-white streak appeared on my laser disc

Hi everyone,

I need a advice on a video artifact that just appeared on my laserdisc.

I am uploading two screenshots for comparison:

The top image: This is a capture I made about a week ago. As you can see, the video was completely clean and played back without any issues.

The bottom image: Two days ago, while watching the disc again, I noticed this black and white line that appears on screen for about 10 seconds aprox.

I’ve inspected the physical disc under a strong light. The surface feels 100% smooth and flat to the touch with no external scratches, but I did notice some small spots/smudges with a strange, shiny reflection in some areas of the disc.

Since the surface is completely smooth, I'm hoping this sudden line is just caused by some recent dust, a hair, or maybe those strange smudges can be washed away.

What is the best and safest way to deep clean this disc to see if I can get it back to how it played a week ago? Also, based on the screenshots, could a sudden 10 second line like this be an early sign of laser rot, or does laser rot usually look different?

Thanks in advance for your help

Looking for a NTSC player

I'm looking for a pure NTSC player, not a PAL/NTSC model, to watch the six movies I mistakenly bought in NTSC format (I'm from Spain). I'm considering an original 1985 Pioneer CLD-900 or the CLD-D504 to play on a Panasonic TH-37PX60EH.

Any recommendations?

Some captures of 1993's The Crush starring Alicia Silverstone. This has been deinterlaced and upscaled to 1080p. The laserdisc is version has never been released for home video, the DVD/VHS/Blu all have an edited version.

Anybody develop a better way to fix warped discs than waiting years for weight to fix the problem?

Not going to lie, setting heavy ass weight on top of a laserdisc and waiting hasn't been working for me. Maybe the people who swear by it had barely warped discs but the disc I have doesn't give a fuck about weight and time.

Also, who the hell is trying to wait weeks, months, or years to fix one disc? I'm trying to unfuck the disc because I want to watch it soon, ya know? Not wait until I die to watch Sleepless in Seattle.

It's been long enough. We need a better method.

Found 1 more box of Laserdisc

I posted the other day about getting 9 boxes of Laserdisc from a family member that passed. I found 1 more box. Seem like great movies but not sure if they have value. Trying to move everything quickly so I can give the $$ to his brother.

There's also like 10 of the Disney princess collection stuff.

20 years of thrift store finds.

All it took was a friend gifting me what he thought was the soundtrack to Roadhouse to set me on this journey. It's a humble collection but pretty well curated. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a laserdisc in a thrift store for years now, so any future additions will likely be eBay finds.

I have this weird daydream about making my own CRT projector for Laserdisc. Anyone use one?

I love my LD player and I notice that my Laserdiscs are very filmic/cinematic in that they often have the original theater sound mix and the transfer looks a lot like film, you can see the grain and everything. I have a great setup now with a high end Plasma filtered through a high end DVD recorder and then also a CRT TV. But I dream of using a CRT projector with Laserdisc, I can't help but feel like it'd be the ultimate experience.

I see some for sale around me, but one is expensive and more designed for office use, and one is old with worn tubes. I see online about people converting rear projection CRT TVs into projectors and it almost seems like that would be the more pragmatic path forward to find working tubes without dropping crazy money. There are two of the same Sony rear projection CRTs near me, I wish I could get them both and convert both to projectors, I'd obviously take proper safety precautions and I'd love a good carpentry project to create cabinetry for the converted projectors. I'm sure I'd figure out convergence after a couple days of screaming in frustration. Then I'd have two projectors to double up on image for better brightness and make the ultimate LD projector setup.

Except I live in a 1-bedroom apartment, I can't be storing two huge projector cabinets. I probably don't have space to even use them. I could possibly ask my work to let me use some basement space at one of their buildings for a workshop to make them, but who's going to help me transport these things around to actually use them, and why would they? Just another hobby for the hobby addiction but boy if I had nothing but money and time that's what I'd be doing.
