Spindle Motor Issue - Pioneer CLD-V840

Howdy, very new to the laser disc experience and doing my best to diagnose an issue with a unit I was gifted by a friend with several who has tried to help me (it ran when he used it but sat for awhile before I tried to use it).

In short I load a disc and hit play. The carriage moves but the disc never spins and doesn’t even budge. So I tried to rotate the spindle motor (without power to the system, unplugged). And it requires two fingers and a lot of effort to rotate by hand.

Cables for the motor and fuses appear in tact.

I’ve seen a few posts about oiling it and the motors going out naturally. The unit appears quite pristine and it worked great when he used it last before handing it over to me.

I’m comfortable taking it apart if needed but hoping there may be some tips, tricks, or tests - linked or direct - that anyone might be able to offer before I go so far as total disassembly.

Thanks! Happy to post photos or video if needed.

Did a Double Take

At a quick glance I thought, "Whaaaa? Was there a Criterion version of Gremlins?" I quickly realized "Gremlins" had slid down, exposing the top of "Hard Boiled." Silly me.

Those beaches will be open this weekend!

A great box set. Good art, layout and sound mix. Even has a copy of the novel and a CD of the soundtrack in its own jewel case.

Value?

My grandpa raised me on laserdiscs, and I have a Pioneer CLD-D505 I use fairly regularly at home. He recently invited me over to show me what he found in the basement- a pioneer VP-1000A still in its original packaging. Any idea what something like this would be worth? I love my current player and hadn’t planned on adding another to my collection, but MAN what a cool find. No idea if it works, but I’m not sure it’s ever been out of the packaging based on how it looked when I peeked inside. TIA!

Watching the Special Edition version tonight

It’s a bit of a July 4th tradition to watch Independence Day … right now, I’m watching the Special Edition version on laserdisc. It’s most certainly the definition of a “popcorn” movie!

Panasonic LX-H670 Documentation Help

Own a Panasonic LX-H670 Multi Laser disc player. Getting an error code of H01 on screen when tray is attempted to be ejected. I can hear it trying. My online search only got repeated results of sending it in for servicing because the code started with an H. Was wondering if anyone had access a manual or anything to give me an idea of what exactly to look at. I intend on taking the cover off tomorrow and seeing what I can see. Was hoping to get a few extra thoughts from people far more versed here than I.

Do many of you have "1776" in your library?

The Independence Day holiday in the US, has me wondering if many in this sub have this movie in their library? I don't have it myself as I don't watch musicals much except for Disney movies. With the big 250 anniversary, I am getting a nostalgic pull to watch some of this today.

Happy Fourth.

Currently watching this on my machine right now. Didn't know the lead actress' birthday was on the 4th, though.

Got a poor condition 888. What would you do? Parts or try to get her working? More photos in comments.

I created a LaserDisc Library Management app with Codex, and my own graphic design skills

*UPDATED* So, I'm still in the process of squeezing every last feature I might want out of this app. I've added a new sidebar and library categories, so you can now have separate libraries for all your media types, add favorites, and add your Wishlist items as well. I'll consider changing the name to LazerVault. Maybe with the different spelling, completely different category of app, and the fact that it'll be an open source free app IBM won't crush me.

The app can import a library xml export from LDDB.com, scrape metadata and poster art from TMDB.org, and play the trailer on YouTube. The app is themeable, with tons of options to dial in all your preferences. The only thing preventing me from releasing it is the name I chose. LaserVault is used by IBM for some kind of enterprise data storage application, and it's unfortunate because I really like the logo I made. Anyway, I wanted to share.

Airplane on LaserDisc

Quite possibly one of the best films of all time.

I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.

Nice Budget Lot of Titles

A wide range of genres, some I have seen before and some that I haven’t. Most especially looking forward to rewatching the original Day of the Jackal.
