Theory: Moebius was and had always been corrupted before his Purification

Moebius had always been a toxic, deceitful and slimy bastard, but had you all ever wondered why he was always like that and he was never showed a true kind person side to himself and to others and just play a nice old man facade to others to further twist and fool them, the logical reason is he was always corrupted from his birth like Kain because Moebius is a Time Guardian and Time is non-linear to him and makes it way less valueble to him than to other people/characters, the only difference between him and Kain is Moebius was already affected by the future events that had yet to unfold, because as we know all " Time Guardians " are apparently gifted a certain level of "Omniscience" and it means that Mental and Intellectual Power and Knowledge, Technically that means that it is highly possible that Moebius was already Mentally affected by the Mental Insanity and Corruptio that will happen within centuries time. Kain was born during the Era where Nosgoth was already long corrupted and affected by the insanity of Nupraptor.

Now having said all that, we would never know how Moebius would act or behave or if there will any be dramatic changes to his personality if he wasn't immediately soul sucked by Raziel after he purified Moebius's sight and finally able to see the Elder God's true gigantic squid form, it would be interesting to see if Moebius would act differently after he realized what he had been worshipping all along in his entire life for centuries, because the few seconds of his reaction was truly horrified and appalled and his emotion is filled with regret, shock, tragedy, i doubt that he will still continue to ally with the Elder God and serve him after that look on his face lol, but i guess we'll never know or perhaps i'm wrong.

Embracer CEO: "(...) We will more actively be exploring external partnership around our roster of other well-known IPs"

Embracer had their quarterly (Q4 2025) presentation today and apparently, there is still some hope for Legacy of Kain franchise. Owner of Crystal Dynamics had another internal restructuring and thus, a spin-off company called Fellowship Entertainment was created. In the open letter to their Shareholders, Embracer CEO, Lars Wingefors wrote the following:

Apart from the largest IPs we will more actively be exploring external partnership around our roster of other well-known IPs such as Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Red Faction, The Mask, Thief, TimeSplitters, amongst many others.

Source

What does that mean to us?

  • LoK is no longer "archived, dormant asset", but an IP that can be further developed.
  • If any new game will be made, it will be done with some other, external studio with Crystal Dynamics providing license, support etc.

Bearing in mind, that Ascendance was a fiasco, but with plethora of talented studios out there, who would you pick for the job? And what job would that be? "Defiance" follow-up? ReMAKEs?

Rating All The Legacy of kain games, my top :)

I know, I know top 5's are boring... but i feel like my opinion is rather diferent than most on this series ranking so i felt like it would be a fun post for me.

ok so my opinion on all legacy of kain games from my favorite to least favorite...

1- Legacy of kain blood omen 2

This is my favorite game in the series. I find the gameplay very immersive, i love the feeling that you are a true vampire, i love the stealth parts, the puzzles, the boss fights, the variety in skills... Just a great game overall.

Only thing i honestly dislike about it is... why are kains pupils white and not yellow like all the other games?? Like you can see on bo2 walpapers and art he has yellow pupils.

It would honestly mean the world to me if this game ever got a remaster or a remake. I see so much potential in this game. But i doubt it will ever happen.

2- Legacy of kain defiance

The remaster is godly... so much new content and replayability... so much love put into it... and they even added arenas something i wanted more than 1 year ago https://www.reddit.com/r/LegacyOfKain/comments/1hgdtos/if_blood_omen_2_and_defiance_are_remastered_what/

Overall game is amazing, Story is great, Fun combat system. World felt a bit repetitive at times.

3- Legacy of kain soul reaver

All legacy of kain games are peak works of art, masterpieces... but soul reaver Is the king of kings. The block puzzles get a bit boring but the game is awesome. story, combat, environments... and the game just got better and better with the remaster.

4- Legacy of kain soul reaver 2

I love the game, It was the first legacy of kain game i ever played and one of my first pc games... which means... yeah i didn't do much in the game... look i was a kid and the game scared me a lot lol.

After many years i was able to play it again and overall it's a great game, but i feel it's just not as good as the others, the combat was a bit...egh...I dont see much reason to replay the game, The voice acting is godly, I love the world but it felt a bit repetitive at times.

5- Legacy of kain Blood omen

Reason it's rated low is because i struggle to play the game. the outdated graphics, how hard it is to get it to run...Game feels confusing to me... But man... This game is breath taking.

The clay model cinematics are so creepy man...I LOVE IT! this game has so much soul put in to it. The gameplay, the world, everything... This game's remake has so much potential to be one of the best games ever made. It's sad crystal wont give it the love it deserves.

And that's it! That's ALL legacy of kain games. Love this series, can't wait to see your opinions, top5's. i love it, please share ❤️

I also recommend if you guys like legacy of kain blood omen 2, to try elder scrolls online. game can be fully played casually just doing quests, No need to ever talks to other players. you can do lots of stealth, mix classes skills, vampire gameplay...have fun. I think dark brotherhood and thieves guild dlcs are free also. And you can buy eso really cheap for like 5 euros at times.

Just one of my characters. (Not a vampire for now)

Legacy of Kain Defiance Remastered - An attempt to compile all of the available music!

Hi! Ok so I took some time to go through the Music Player in Defiance Remastered and match each song with the song files that we already have. Because the music is not accesssible like for Soul Reaver 1 and 2 Remastered, the only way to get these files would be to record old-school like taping songs from the radio and I don't really have time for that (or patience).

Aside from some songs appearing to be new edits/mixes of previously used music, there is only 1 song that I cannot get a match for, and that is "Light Forge (Defiance)". By all accounts it seems to be just a slightly different version of "Light Forge" from Soul Reaver 2. There is no track that matches it's sound in the already available Defiance files. I plan on putting these together and making an Unofficial Soundtrack for the game.

If anyone would like to take a look at the list and make any observations or corrections, please be my guest

Soul reaver sucks so far, can I skip

Idk how common this opinion is but i dont wanna look through this sub and get spoiled so im just gonna post this. Im not trying to make anybody mad so please just hear me out, but ive got a few hours on soul reaver 1, and the gameplay is frustrating and boring beyond belief.

I played blood omen first and I loved it so much, the music was cool, the story and lore was cool, and kain himself made the game so interesting I couldn't stop playing, yeah the gameplay got kinda annoying but I found myself enjoying it pretty often.

I can see the appeal of soul reaver and I like the story so far, but after beating blood omen I feel like this is an extreme downgrade in atmosphere and even gameplay.

Im in the silenced cathedral with all those spider enemies and Im doing the puzzle where you have to connect the pipes and turn them on. These enemies are so annoying and I have to kill them over and over while im doing each puzzle here.

I have a few questions about this game:

1: Is it ok for me to just watch the cutscenes and skip playing? Im only really interested in kain so far and I've only seen him twice, raziel seems like he'll be cool later but he barely talks during this part of the game and there are barely any cutscenes at this point.

2: should I really just force myself through this game? Im sure the story is great and I'll probably appreciate the whole series more if I just play it but im afraid I'll just burn out if I keep playing

3: are the rest of the games in this series so annoying gameplay wise? I could put up with this much longer if there was more going on with the plot and more dialog, so im wondering if those games have better pacing

LoK: Defiance Remastered - Dev Stories, Part 2: The Soul Reaver (BO1)

Part 1: LoK: Defiance Remastered - Dev Stories, Part 1: The World Map
ArtStation: https://www.artstation.com/fire_paladin

Initially, I wanted this to be a shorter post, containing some smaller props, including the dummy, but also some in-team jokes. While some of that will make it into this post, you will have to wait until the next one if you want to hear some of the funnier moments, and have me share some insight into smaller assets. Today, it is time to address the fading legend of the Soul Reaver from BO1.

The Blood Omen 1 Soul Reaver was one of the models I really wanted to create for this game. We had a set scope that included skin suggestions rather early in development, so I anticipated the moment I'd reach this task for months, motivating me.

I actually developed the Reaver skin before the game's release. Release tasks were getting fewer and fewer, with the regular polishing and bugfixing making up some of the most exciting tasks at the time (other than some character skin progresses), and everyone was kind of restless because we were getting so close to completing the release build. As far as I go, I redirected some of that energy into collaborating with the programmers on figuring out some ancient tech that the devs used for some file formats (I might talk about that another time), and by getting into the patch tasks, which included weapon skins.

The task was straightforward and simple: create a faithful model of the BO1 Reaver. The references were relatively few, but sufficient, and I managed to figure that the BO1 Reaver just reused the BO1 Demon skulls that are present in multiple ways in the game (not just enemies, but also decorations and other objects), which further clarified some of the less discernible details, such as the shape and sharpness of the horns. First day was sculpting, second was modeling, and last one was texturing + in-game testing. If I remember correctly, at some point the BO1 blade was actually oriented the other way compared to the new Reaver blade, but that's because it's inconsistent even in the original game! The inventory graphic of the BO1 Reaver actually has the blade flipped compared to how it should be, and that’s the one I initially followed. Certainly, that graphic also helped with getting the amount of handle segments correct, as I couldn’t rely on the simplified on-map graphic (and Defiance did require a longer handle). The skull itself was the more difficult task, but it was mostly a matter of getting the details to match the original from any angle, followed by adding smaller details afterwards. I am quite proud of how I made it mesh together with the blade and horns.

Last was the texture. For those who don't know, 3D models are made of polygons, and in order to match a texture to their surface, their polygons must be laid on a 2D plane, called the UV, on which the texture will be painted. Kind of like those maps of the Earth, where the Earth's surface is laid on a flat, rectangular plane, despite it being a globe. Why does this matter? Well, the reaver is a flamberge sword, a sword with an undulating blade. While the waviness of the metal texture is not always that exaggerated due to smithing techniques, the Reaver is very much a fantasy blade design, with its thickness and wide waves on the blade, so I figured it paramount that the metal pattern follows the pattern of the blade itself. To achieve that, I customized the UV so it would be straight rather than undulating, essentially allowing me to use any metal texture, while maintaining the cool, undulating effect in the final model. Beyond the classic techniques of adding a faint color noise on the metal texture for heightened realism and oxidation (plain grey metal is actually unrealistic), I also added a colored, bluish sheen on the edges of the blade, akin to its BO1 iteration.

The final result turned out much better than I anticipated, and the metal shading techniques really paid off. When I opened the game and saw Kain walking around with the BO1 Reaver, I knew that I did it. Other team members liked it as well, and with some feedback (mainly u/LegitimateSpot1440's advice to make the handle narrower on one side), I was able to perfect the blade.

As far as post-dev stuff goes, I was close to submitting this weapon to the release build. It would have not been accessible in-game, but people could have edited their save files to make it show up. I’m glad I didn’t, because seeing the community’s firsthand reaction to the BO1 Reaver actually being added to the game with the patch was worth it.

You can also check out my ArtStation if you want to see more of the BO1 Soul Reaver, and stay tuned for the next part! Which should likely come sooner than this one did. ;)

Looking for the Melchiah comic

I've been working on a general timeline(s) review of the series, and part of that is going over the story of every piece of content (to determine what is/is not canon). I was able to get TDSR and even the Zephon comic (as much as I regret funding TDSR, I was hopeful about the series finally getting developer attention after so long). I was hoping someone out there has a digital copy of the Melchiah book they could share? I am willing to pay for the share (I assume $10 would be fair, as the original price was $20 if I recall. Open to negotiations.).

What is this? Did someone who's never played the game just generate a game guide with A.I.

Raziel Bust Sketch

A little fanart I did as a warmup recently, i'm really obsessed with his vampiric appearance lately, love the huge post apocalyptic/gothic influence on the design.

Do you guys feel sympathy for Moebius?

I genuinely feel bad for the guy, sure he's an evil man, but he had a terrible life and was tricked by a literal demiurge. I wish Raziel didn't do what he did after purifying his sight.

Did Blood Omen 2's devs intend for it to take place in an alternate timeline?

As you can see in the screenshots, Blood Omen 2 is now marketed as being set in an "alternate timeline" up front, which it wasn't originally back in the day (unless I'm misremembering, it was over 20 years ago lol).

But... did the dev team intentionally set out to make a game that was set in an "alternate timeline"? If Steve Ross, etc saw this description now, would they raise an eyebrow at it, or nod in agreement?

As an aside, I've gone down plenty of deep dives into the development of Blood Omen 2, and one thing I really can't get my head around is the inclusion of Janos... there must have been at least some communication between the dev teams if Janos appears in BO2 and looks largely the same as he does in SR2? Unless Janos orginally appeared in BO2 and then Amy Hennig and the SR2 quickly added him into their game to keep everything in line?

Why did Moebius follow the Elder God after seeing the history of vampires

After seeing the history of the ancient vampires, seeing how the Elder God had abandoned his own people, how they went to war for him and got cursed and were just abandoned...why the hell did he still trust the Elder God? Was he insane from the madness even though it didn't happen yet?

Like it's very odd to me. He's a pretty cunning character I don't know how he didn't put two and two together. I'm kinda sad that raziel soul vores him at the end, but maybe I'm just too empathetic.

I posted this before with a pic I didn't realize was AI so I just reposted it. It's not the exact same question though since I forgot to copy before I deleted it because I'm a silly guy
