New owner of D-Lux 8

Got this as a birthday present. This is quite possibly the most luxurious present I’ve ever received. I really want to protect it and take good care of it.

Can any of you please recommend what you use to protect your camera? I need to get a camera strap and a screen protector. Do I also need a filter to protect the lens?

I’d truly appreciate any advice and tips! Thank you!

How to get the free year of Leica Lux App?

I searched this reddit and wasn't able to come up with anything so, apologies if this is a newbie post. :)

I just recently got my Deluxe Fjorden grip package for my iPhone 16pro, and I am supposed to get a free year of the Leica Lux app, which was a huge selling point for me. But I don't see anywhere in the packaging about how to get activate the free year?

What smaller autofocus L-mount lens options do you use?

Since the latest SL3 firmware, I find myself reaching for my SL3 over my Q2 more and more when I want autofocus. But unlike the Q, the SL3 with a Leica lens is much heavier; when Lumix released their 40mm f/2, I got curious about whether it would bridge that gap enough to give my SL3 a good lightweight travel option.

I’ve been using it for several weeks now, and I found that on the SL3, this Lumix lens balances surprisingly well. It successfully knocks the weight down to a very manageable level for longer walks, and I like that it allows me to use smaller bags than when I have my 50mm APO or the 24-90mm attached. I did a write up along with some sample photos if anyone is interested in this lens here: https://www.konstantinkokoris.com/reviews/lens-review-panasonic-lumix-40m-f2

Aside from using M-mount lenses, has anyone else been using this or found a smaller lens that they like to use on their SL?

Leica M6 – rewind knob doesn’t turn when advancing film

I’ve noticed a strange issue with my Leica M6 that I haven’t had before.
When I load a new roll of film and advance the film, the film is definitely being transported, but the rewind knob/crank on the left side does not turn at all.
If I then gently turn the rewind knob in the rewind direction to take up the slack, it starts working normally again. After doing this, the rewind knob turns when I advance the film.
I’ve had this happen with the last three rolls, although I’ve been loading film the same way for a long time without ever having this issue.
At first glance, everything seems mechanically fine and the film appears to advance correctly. But I’m wondering whether this is normal due to slack in the film cassette, or whether it could indicate a problem with the rewind mechanism.
Has anyone experienced this with an M6? Is it normal to simply take up the slack by gently turning the rewind knob, or should I have the camera checked?
Thanks!

What is your take on the q3 43 lens ?

Hi all,
I recently have seen some debate about this 43mm lens. I’m not speaking about the focal length, but rather the optical quality. I would love to have more opinion on that.
Thanks !

Best Way to Test a Leica M (or Ev1) before buying?

I’m seriously considering moving from a Sony A7RV to a Leica M system, but before spending $8–10k I’d really like to know whether I actually enjoy the rangefinder experience—or the new EV1 EVF experience.

A little context:

  • I’ve shot Sony for years and mostly use manual placement of the AF point rather than relying on subject tracking.
  • I’m looking for a simpler, more intentional shooting experience in a smaller, more portable package.
  • I wear progressive glasses, so I’m a little concerned the rangefinder patch may not work well for my eyes.
  • I’m also not sure if I’ll like the EV1 experience. It seems like a very specific way of focusing, and since it’s a first-generation camera, I’m wondering if it’s still a bit early.
  • I’ve manually focused on my Sony A7RV using focus magnification, and it works well for me. I’ve heard some people say the EV1’s manual focusing experience isn’t as good as Sony’s. Is that actually the case?
  • I mostly shoot street, travel, documentary, landscapes, and environmental portraits.

What’s the best way to actually live with one of these cameras for a week or two instead of spending 15 minutes with it in a camera store?

Would you:

  • Rent one? If so, from where?
  • Buy used and resell it if it isn’t for me?
  • Find a Leica dealer with an extended demo program?
  • Something else?

I’m less concerned with image quality and specs than I am with whether the shooting experience clicks with me. I’d rather find out now than after spending a small fortune.

I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who switched from a modern Sony mirrorless camera to an M (or the EV1), particularly if you wear progressive lenses.

Leica M2 or M3

Hi,

I'm wearing glasses and I kind of hesitate between the leica M2 or M3.

I'm a 50mm shooter most of the time, I've read the M3 is not very glasses's friendly.

The downside of the M2 is that is not very available on the market to compare to the M3 ( available in many unit at good price).

I don't know if I continue to keep looking for a M2 or go for a M3 ( I planned tu use mostly a 50mm)

Thanks for your feedback !!

Lens MM Redundancy

For Leica M10-R is a 28mm, 35mm and 40mm, (and 90mm)
Am I being redundant and need to space the lens sizes out more? If so what would you suggest?

First Leica

Bought myself an M3 SS earlier this year, serial dates it to 1960. Scored a goggled (CLA’d) 35 Summaron for cheap while waiting out a good deal on an Elmar 50. Just so happens the Elmar I landed is also dated 1960.
