r/LibreWolf

Is the librewolf-repo 3rd party repo an easy and safe way to install librewolf on void linux?

I been wanting to use librewolf on void and my laptop specs are not that great so I been trying to figure out how I can use librewolf on the laptop.

I feel appimages and flatpak are too buggy and also I feel in linux you should only use the main package manager to update and install things.

I have low ram on my laptop so I can't compile which is why I am adkijg about this repo.

My last hurdle to be on Librewolf permanently.

https://preview.redd.it/4zvycrcri96h1.png?width=275&format=png&auto=webp&s=d7920da70c10732d02c29fe1b686f37f083eddaf

[SOLVED]

The only use case where I currently still open another browser is to watch a very specific public livestream that I have not been able to make work with Librewolf. I have narrowed it down to the two errors you see on this image. Being not so technical, I have absolutely no idea how to fix those.

  • Canvas is working,
  • Webgl is working,
  • I have disabled my ad blockers on this specific site.
  • I have allowed librewolf to play drm-controlled content.

Please help.

EDIT: solved by updating Librewolf to the latest version.

How do I reduce LibreWolf's RAM usage? It's using 1.5 GB for a single tab of Reddit.

(Fedora Linux/KDE if that helps)

I have no applications open aside from LW and the moment I open it and begin browsing, RAM jumps up instantly. I measured the idle RAM and then with LW open, and for one Reddit tab (where I've done no scrolling), it needs anywhere from 1 to 1.7 GB of memory.

Is there a way to fix this? The only extensions I have are uBO, RoboForm (password manager), and Firefox Containers, btw.

Hi

Download Affinity file: https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/351823f2-afcd-4fb1-b520-8dfb6c3b2670

700kb .af file, Valid for 30 days. If anyone wants to host this on github or something else, please do. I personally don't want to link my online identities by doing that.

Download Artboard1 as svg: https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/0cf70ca1-255c-4baf-8783-72f39f12bb34

---

Years back I made some designs because I thought the librewolf icon was very ugly. Now years later I am still getting messages if I have the vector files. After a little digging I collected them in this Affinity file for anyone to use and hopefully transform into something decent, because it's all very raw.

Devs, if you want any of these made usable for some official new icon files hit me up.

Why I'm switching to Waterfox after more than a year using LibreWolf

Hello! I've been using LibreWolf for about fifteen months, and have really liked many aspects of it. I'm very grateful to the maintainers for managing to produce one of the few decent browser forks. However, I recently decided to switch to Waterfox after an accumulation of repeated annoyances, and I figured I should write a post as one piece of data in case it's useful for the community or maintainers. So here are the two major annoyances that led me to eventually give up on LibreWolf:

  1. No codesigning. What this means for me as a macOS user is that every time there's an update, homebrew tells me that I won't be able to easily update my browser starting in 3 months; and I have to run an `xattr` command to make the browser executable. Ultimately slightly annoying but not (yet) a dealbreaker by itself. If there really is no similarly-easy upgrade path starting in September, that would be a borderline dealbreaker for me.
  2. My settings, especially those around forgetting history and cookies at the end of a browser session, repeatedly getting overwritten after updates. I think this happened at least four times over the last year. It's totally cool that the browser has default settings that optimize for privacy over convenience, but in my personal workflow the tradeoff for these specific settings isn't worth it for me. It's a fine default, but if a user explicitly changes it, it's likely not the right tradeoff for them, and not respecting that is liable to waste their time and goodwill unnecessarily: Every time this setting changed on an update, I'd have to spend 20 minutes signing into maybe 20 web sites.

Seeing the September deadline from Homebrew approaching slowly had me wondering if I should explore other browsers, and then yesterday the settings issue happened again, and that was the last straw. LibreWolf has some privacy features I'll miss in Waterfox, but for my personal preferences, it just isn't worth the extra effort and uncertainty.

There have been a few other annoyances over the last year (e.g. the initial rollout of the WebGL blocking was annoying, though it's now a feature I appreciate), but the issues above are the ones that ultimately made my decision. Thanks again for all the work that's gone into this browser; I hope this feedback is useful!

Why no auto update in the Stable none Portable version and you must have a secondary Program?

I find this a massive issue, why not have two stable none portable versions, So people that want the Auto update can just down load the None Portable version with out having to have a secondary program.

Problem with Dark Reader Add-on Since ver. 151.0.1-2

Since I installed 151.0.1-2 and later I've been getting a prompt just below the bookmarks toolbar saying 'Dark Reader is slowing Libre Wolf down', it's being a real PITA.

No such problems with Firefox and I hate 'white' pages, I find dark pages a lot easier on the eye.

Running Win 10 on a Gigabyte Aorus 7 with Intel 10th gen i7 laptop

Any solutions?

librewolf UI becomes unclickable

Anyone else have the browser UI randomly become uninteractable (after a while) and just does nothing when you click on it?

I even had right clicks stop working on web pages, and today an entire website was unusable.
Exiting and re-opening seems to help but... then all my tabs are gone.

I'm curious. What search engine are you using? Did you keep the one by default, that is DDG, and satisfied with it? Or did you choose another alternative?

If you have chosen another alternative, which one is it and what its pros and cons?

New fingerprinting method using javascript to read SSD activity

> Now sites have a new way to spy on their visitors: measuring subtle interactions with their solid-state drives. The technique, named FROST (fingerprinting remotely using OPFS-based SSD timing), allows sites to monitor other sites a visitor is viewing and what apps are open on their devices.

https://arstechnica.com/security/2026/05/websites-have-a-new-way-to-spy-on-visitors-analyzing-their-ssd-activity/

> The technique has its limitations. First, the OPFS file must be extremely large—likely a gigabyte or more. That requirement means that attacks at scale would inevitably be detected by many users. Additionally, the OPFS file must be stored on the same SSD the visitor is using. This isn’t usually a problem for tracking open websites, since the OPFS file is stored in the browser’s default location. In the event apps are using a separate SSD drive for apps, those apps couldn’t be detected by FROST.

LibreWolf and Many Extensions - Am I Defeating the Purpose?

Am I defeating the purpose of using LibreWolf with many extensions? Is it that much risk of privacy? I mean I'm not the biggest on resisting fingerprinting, but I just wanted to ask if it was outright useless if I used a bunch of extensions on LW that I'd be better of going back to say, Firefox.

The reason I still customize LibreWolf with my extensions,

uBlock Origin, Dark Reader (this is a BIG one for you RFP fellas), a couple of YouTube extensions (SponsorBlock, Enhancer, Return YouTube Dislike), Bitwarden, and my ultra niche extension, Better AOTY

is because I, again, I'm not to crazy on the whole fingerprinting thing, but, at least in the way I use LW, is like a de-bloated Firefox. If I wanted to use something that was anti-fingerprinting and was meant to be unchanged, I'd be using something like Mullvad.

Are these false positives?

Hello everyone,

While checking some files on VirusTotal, I noticed that LibreWolf's WinUpdater.exe is flagged by 4 security vendors. I scanned my system using both Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, but neither detected any threats or suspicious activity.

I'm probably being overly cautious, but I'm not very tech-savvy and wanted to ask here if these detections are false positives.

Display only shortcuts in the homepage

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to setup my homepage so that it is minimal but still does guide me directly to websites I actually want to visit. So shortcuts. Currently, I have 4 shortcuts created. However, as shown in image 1, I always get new links created from my frequent visits and history, which I do not want. There is no option in the settings (image 2) to stop displaying websites I only visited. Is there a way to display only my shortcuts, or do I have to find an extension (a new homepage or something which solves this problem on vanilla homepage) ? If so, what extension would you recommend ?

Thanks in advance !

Forcing fullscreen without removing fingerprint

I like this browser a lot, it is very fast compared to any chromium browser even though they might be “debloated”. I’m currently using it on my core2duo t6600+hdd and it’s the quickest and safest browser I tried, miles better than some options like Falkon browser, brave, chromium browser, etc… Only thing I dislike (yes, I know it’s done for privacy) is that it opens minimized. I'd like to open it maximized (fullscreen) without losing any privacy features. Is there a way for me to force it opening fullscreen? I’m using it on my 2 laptops. One is 1366x768 and the other one is 1440x900. Thanks for reading.

Search engines (adding less well know ones) is a persistent issue for me, any way to do it as easy as on Firefox?

I always add and use a bunch of search engines when I (re-)install any browser. I've never had it be so hard -on other browsers- as it seems on LibreWolf?

After reading quite some threads here, watching Youtube vids, adding certain add-ons, I still find the process of adding a seach engine like for example "Non AI Duck Duck Go" hard, borderline impossible.

For vast majority of search engines the right clicking on the URL bar and then adding thing, does not work.

If I try other recommended methods of adding less well known search engines to LibreWolf, I just get errors or it doesn't work out. I don't want to edit files, add favicons etc.

My workflow in Firefox used to be:

  1. Go to: https://mycroftproject.com/
  2. Search, click on and add the Mycroft search engine.
  3. Use that search engine to install any of the 1000s of search engines on the Mycroft website, with two clicks.

No editing anything, no add-ons, no tech skills needed, no error messages, just add the search engines, fast.

Is there any way to do something as easy/similar on LibreWolf to add (many, also obscure) search engines? I feel like I am missing something! :) Thanks in advance!
