And one for the men 👋

In the spirit of fairness, I made one for the male teachers of London too 😂

Maybe you’re looking for other guys to travel with, go hiking, plan trips or just meet people outside your usual school circle.

I’m not entirely sure whether the men were waiting for their own flair, but you have one now. Use it wisely 😂

How do you grow a subreddit from zero without just annoying everyone by promoting it? 😂

I started a subreddit for London teachers after realising there’s a weird gap I couldn’t really find anywhere else.

Teachers get a lot of time off, but it’s fixed. We can’t just choose a random week in October because flights are cheap 😂 At the same time, most of the people in our lives don’t necessarily have those same weeks free.

The idea is to connect London teachers who are free at the same time and want to actually do something with it. Travel, hiking, days out, finding people with similar interests, whatever really.

There’s no business behind it and I’m not trying to make money from it. I genuinely just thought, surely there are loads of us with the exact same problem?

The catch is that the whole idea becomes much more useful the more people are actually in there.
So how do you get something like this off the ground without plastering it across Reddit and annoying everyone? 😂

And if you’ve ever built a small online community from scratch, what actually made people stick around?

Why I started this community and a little about me!

31F 👋 I teach Secondary school around the Stratford area and I LOVE getting out of London whenever I can.

I’m always driving to national parks, Wales, going hiking, camping or just exploring somewhere new 🥾⛺️🚗

The problem is, most of my friends and family are working during the week when I’m off, and doing these trips solo gets expensive when you’re paying all the fuel yourself 😭

I’m also at a stage in life where I have quite a lot of freedom. No children and not many responsibilities tying me down during the holidays, while some of my teacher friends have families and other commitments.

So I thought… surely there are other London teachers in a similar position?

People who have the same time off, want to get out and do things, and would happily split the fuel and explore together.

That’s genuinely why I started this community.
If any of this sounds like you, come join us 👋✈️ And share it with another London teacher who might be looking for the same thing.

👋Welcome to r/LondonTeachersTravel - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! 👋 I’m u/Fearless-Version-624, the founding moderator of r/LondonTeachersTravel.
I’m a secondary school teacher in London who loves travelling, but like a lot of teachers, most of my friends and family are working when we’re off! I couldn’t find a London community specifically for teachers who love to travel, so I thought… why not create one? ✈️🌍

What to Post

Anything travel related that other London teachers might enjoy or find useful!
✈️ Looking for a travel buddy
🌍 Places you want to visit
🥾 Hikes and UK day trips
🚗 Road trips
🏙️ Weekend and city breaks
🧳 School holiday plans
📸 Photos and recommendations from your travels
💬 Questions, ideas or even just “Anyone fancy going somewhere this half term?”

Community Vibe
The whole point is to meet like minded London teachers, make genuine connections and hopefully find people to explore and travel with.
Please be friendly, respectful and sensible. You never need to share your school, workplace or personal information publicly, and always take time to get to know someone before making plans together.

How to Get Started
Introduce yourself below! Tell us your general area of London, what you teach if you’d like to share, and your dream destination 🌍
Post something! Tell us where you’re travelling next or somewhere you’d love to go.
Know another London teacher who loves travelling? Invite them!
Have ideas for the community? I’d genuinely love to hear them.
We’re starting completely from zero, so if you’re reading this early, you’re officially part of the experiment 😂
Let’s see if we can actually build a community of London teachers who love to travel.
Welcome to r/LondonTeachersTravel! ✈️❤️

Where would you go tomorrow if you had people to split the fuel costs with? 🚗

Genuine question 😂

You’ve got the day free, weather is decent and someone else is happy to split fuel.

Where are you driving to from London?

I’m always tempted by the Lakes/Wales but then I remember how much petrol costs when you’re doing the whole journey alone 😭

Give me some ideas 👇
