New to the army: Help me understand our units please

Hello!

I'm a S2D player thinking of getting into a new army. I love the lore and aesthetic of the Lumineth and would love to build an army, but I don't really understand how we play fully. I can guess the roles our "core" units fill but would love a bit of a breakdown in case anyone is interested!

Primarily I'm wondering about:

Wardens

Sentinels

Stoneguard

Dawnriders

Bladelords

Riverblades

Ballista

And also the myriad heroes we have and how those differ from one another

It’s been done for a little while, but I finally got some good pictures of my Shrine Luminor among other more recent projects.

Help

Help: I'm starting my new Lumineth army, and as a starting point I bought the new Hurakan Vanguard spearhead. I don't know how to expand it to have a small army ready for low-point games (for example, 1000pts). I was definitely thinking of getting a Sentinel unit. Maybe another Warden unit (?) Then I don't know, maybe a Ballista, or a hero like Eltarion? What should I get?

The Starshard Ballista looks cool, but I think it is not very useful in my 2 games. How do you even use it more effectively?

I bought the Iliathan Warhost battleforce box and played two 1.0k games against Flesh-eater Courts and Helsmiths of Hashut.

In FEC battle, my ballista didn't do much damage to his terrorgheist monster and the blind effect only lasts for a turn and not for the entire round so if he wants he can just wait it out until it is his turn to charge. And if I wnat to use covering fire, I have to decide whether I want to use my archers or ballista. And even though it blinded the terrorgheist for -1 to hit, the terrorgheist attacks mostly went through my wardens, completely annihilating the unit.

In the Helsmith battle, it just got obliterated in the first round by his rocket artillery lmao And it couldn't even reach most of his vital targets way in the back because they have like 36" of range versus my 30" range on my ballista.

I think that for a 120pt unit, the ballista is terrible and I could just better replace it with the archers instead for 20 more points, which did more work than my ballista did in those 2 battles. What do you guys and gals think though? How do you use your ballista if you do field them?

LRL List Playing

Played a few games now, most recently got my ass handed to me running a Teclis list against the new Sylvaneth rules (they are ridiculous btw!!). I’m not sure LRL have enough bodies to allow Teclis to be played, though I’m sure I’m in no way utilising the runes well enough yet.

Looking at switching to the below now:

Playing Around 1980/2000 pts
-----
Grand Alliance Order | Lumineth Realm-lords | Warhost of Duality
General's Handbook 2025-26
Drops: 4
Spell Lore - Lore of Hysh
Manifestation Lore - Manifestations of Hysh
-----
General's Regiment
Scinari Enlightener (180)
• General
• Silver Wand
Vanari Auralan Wardens (240)
• Reinforced
Vanari Auralan Wardens (240)
• Reinforced
---
Regiment 1
Ellania and Ellathor, Eclipsian Warsages (290)
Vanari Bannerblade (140)
Ydrilan Riverblades (140)
---
Regiment 2
Sevireth, Lord of the Seventh Wind (340)
The Light of Eltharion (300)
---
Regiment 3
Vanari Lord Regent (110)
• Acolyte of the Runes
-----
Faction Terrain
Shrine Luminor
-----
Created with Warhammer Age of Sigmar: The App
App: v1.31.0 (1) | Data: v422

I’m mixed on sentinels but appreciate there’s a distinct lack of shooting in the above, toying with switching out some of the wardens for some bows.

Feedback welcome!

Paint Scheme examples

Morning all!
First post!

My girlfriend has finally agreed to let me teach her AoS and she settled on the LRL and wants a purple based scheme. Does anyone have any links to examples ideally with paint guides or at least examples of the colours used? Would be a huge help to her to get started :)

I suppose I should start painting…

Never understood why people would get a whole army before painting any of it, but a few good deals and opportunities later…I guess I can’t judge 😅

What lists are you all running lately, and how do they play? (Runes, playstyle, tips welcome!)

Hey everyone!

I am new to Lumineth and have mostly been running infantry-heavy lists, Wardens and Sentinels, leaning into the wall of shields and ranged support playstyle. It's been fun, but I'm curious about what else is out there.

I'd love to hear what lists you're currently playing and what's actually working for you at the table. Specifically:

  • What does your list look like?

  • Which Runes are you running and why? Do you find yourself favouring certain Runes consistently, or does it depend on the matchup?

  • What's the playstyle like? Is it aggressive, defensive, highly technical, objective-focused?

  • How does it compare to an infantry-heavy build? Faster, more fragile, more complex to pilot?

I'm particularly curious about lists that use more Hurakan elements, Stoneguard bricks, or heavy cavalry — anything that plays quite differently from the foot-slogger approach I'm used to.

Appreciate any thoughts, lists, or war stories from the tabletop. Cheers!

Order of the Crimson Dawn - Army Showcase

The art I commissioned back in the day has been shared around a few times in here, thought I'd tell a quick story for those unaware.

High Elves have always been near and dear to my heart, but when they were coming to Age of Sigmar, I wanted to make sure they were truly unique to what I love about fantasy art design, while staying thematically true to elves.

Cleveland Mosher, the original artist of my elf banner and my Teclis proxy/reskin (Prince Nightscar) and I met on a VaatiVidya fan forum during the Rona years, and became good friends in our mutual anticipation for Elden Ring. He is superbly talented and I highly recommend checking out his ArtStation for his independent video games work, which I know he's super passionate about.

My Lumineth are designed in the vein of Grey Wardens from Dragon Age, or Nights Watch from SOIAF, where its an enclave of elves who are social outcasts, they don't quite fit into elf society, but still hold the same values and goals. They have made a place for themselves in the wider ecosystem, and created a lot of story fodder for me to go hog wild on kitbashes and colors. The silver skin, yellow eyes, red armor, all were deliberate choices with a story behind them.

I am working on painting one in 90mm scale very soon, for display at standalone art shows, I can't wait to show that off soon. I hope everyone enjoys.

This Thyrielle’s Zephyrites Preview Article has diagrams and discussions of something I’m sure you have been dying to relive: triangulation and trigonometry. (Typical Lumineth NERDS)

Cathallar: My first special unit

Bout to enter my third month of the hobby and just finished my first special unit (unless the warden champion counts).

Next up: Sentinels!

Skaven list

Greetings, fellow generals

I will soon be facing a horde of oversized rodents with equally oversized gatling guns and would very much like some tips. For those of you who have experience what should I be wary of?

We will play 2000pts at the moment I have:

-Lyrior

-Regent on foot

-Enlightener

-Cathallar

- Windmagw

- 10 Dawnriders

-10 Windchargers

-10 Bladelords

-30 Wardens

-20 Sentinels

- Spirit of the Wind

I will probably get the new Spearhead soon..

Thanks in advance!
