MG4 Urban Wireless CarPlay?

Anybody got a clue why my MG4 Urban doesn’t connect to my apply CarPlay?

I plugged it in via usb and allowed wireless connection. Connected via bluetooth and WiFi hotspot of the car.

Still it states it can’t find any mobile devices with bluetooth on.

Is this a bug or a user error?

What is this square in the boot of my MG5?

Spotted this, wondered if it's a missing accessory, or cover for a power outlet? Don't want to pry it off for no reason 😂

WLAN setting in an MG4 Urban

Going through the setting menus on my MG4 Urban and noticed an option called WLAN, it’s off by default but switching it on gave me the option to connect the car to my home wifi. I’m just not understanding why anyone would want to do that? Obviously as soon as I start driving I’ll go out of range. Does the car benefit from that connection while it’s sitting on my drive? If so, how?

MG ZS EV 2023 - REAR WASHER CONCERN

Ok, so as everyone can imagine my rear washer stopped working recently (car is from 2023, not even 3 years old yet).

I can see leak coming from washer tank in front of the car - pipe popped off from the tank itself causing leak.

Called MG dealership and theyve told me the following:

- it will cost me 90 pounds to diagnose it.

- if item will be covered under warranty then they will wave-off diagnostic charge.

- however, washer system may not be covered under warranty so this may cost me additional 90 pounds to have a look at (apart from 90 for diagnostic itself).

I asked MG two questions:

- car is less than 3 years old and it is covered under warranty. Warranty leaflet does not mention anything about washer system not being covered. Therefore, can she advise what is the clause of the warranty T&C she relies on?

In reply, MG told me that I could use incorrect liquid and that impacted the washer tank or the pipes.

So I said, to say that MG will have to prove it and show me that pipes are somewhat chemically affected or tank itself contains any residue from incorrect liquid? Assumption is not enough and this is well known problem for this car anyway.

She went quiet and advised they will look at it, then decide.

Really? Such a poor customer service.... if they charge me then Ombudsman would be involved for sure.

Just giving general feedback about experience with MG so far.

Charging Issue MG4

Has anyone experienced an intermittent AC charging fault on a 2023 MG4 Trophy Long Range?

About six weeks ago my car started repeatedly stopping during AC charging. It happens on my home Ohme charger and also happened on multiple public 7 kW AC chargers, so it doesn’t seem to be specific to my home setup.

What I’ve ruled out so far:

Tried two different Type 2 cables.
Same issue on home and public AC chargers.

DC rapid charging works perfectly every time.

The dealer had the car this week, applied a software update and told me they’d tested it on a 7 kW charger and the issue was fixed.
Unfortunately, it isn’t. The first overnight charge afterwards was plugged in for 9h 51m but only delivered 0.94 kWh (“There was a hiccup” in the Octopus app).

I then tried Ohme Boost/Max Charge. It charged normally for 1h 17m and delivered 8.4 kWh before stopping unexpectedly at around 22% SOC. It didn’t restart by itself, and I had to manually restart charging.

The fault is intermittent - sometimes it will charge for a few seconds, sometimes for over an hour, but it eventually stops before reaching the target charge.

Has anyone had similar symptoms? If so, what was the eventual fix? I’m particularly interested to know whether it turned out to be the onboard charger, charge port, software, or something else. The dealer is looking at it again, but I’d like to go back armed with any ideas from people who’ve experienced the same issue.

Thank you.

Experience with a MG car

Hello everyone,

my husband and I are planning to get a new car and we are l looking to get an MG ZS or HS full hybrids.

Our question is to the people who own the cars. How is your experience? Do you like it or do you hate it? How is it with day to day life?

And if someone already owns one for a few years how reliable has it been?

thanks in advance!

Who owns an mg4 urban ?

I ordered an MG4 Urban, and it's the first electric car I'll ever drive and own. I decided to get it because in my country it was put on sale at a very competitive price (around €17,500 for the 54 kWh version; I think that's the best price apart from the price at which the MG4 Urban is sold in China). That said, I'd really like to hear from people who have bought it or at least driven it, and if you would recommend it.

Any opinions also on MG the brand would be welcome.

2026 MG HS Trophy Plug-in Hybrid Thoughts??

Hi all,

I'm very close to ordering a 2026 MG HS Trophy Plug-in Hybrid on a 3-year lease and have been really impressed after a test drive.

However, I've seen a few comments online about MG reliability and software glitches, so I wanted to hear from people who actually own the new generation HS rather than the older model.

A few questions:

  • How has reliability been so far?
  • Any recurring faults or trips back to the dealer?
  • Any infotainment or software issues?
  • How are you finding the real-world electric range and fuel economy?
  • Anything you wish you'd known before buying?

Overall, would you recommend it, or would you choose something different if you had the chance again?

Thanks in advance! Side note im coming ful circle as my first car aged 17 was an MG TF haha.

MG4 EV Radio kills the car.

Hey all,

My dad is experiencing an issue whereby if he drives outside of his home county, and the radio loses signal, rather than automatically retune to another station, the radio just ignores all stations and stops working.

Now you'd think that if he were to return to his home county, the radio might pick up the original station it was tuned to, and continue playing, but it doesn't.

I'm not sure when it happens, but he's also received the error message "USB Disk Error", if that helps at all?

Where it gets really annoying though, is that the radio seems to continue searching for stations while "off" so what happens is, it runs the battery right down, and then he can't get into and operate the car as the radio has drained the battery.

He has been to his local dealership 4 times to try and rectify this issue, and I'm sure all they're doing is a hard reset before sending him on his way. It's seems that every time he does a long trip, the radio craps out and kills the car.

Any ideas?

He's losing confidence in the car and I've told him to ask for a new one. It's still under warranty.

Can I set steering-wheel voice assistant button for activating Android Auto assistant? (MG4 Essence 64 2026)

The factory assistant is rubbish.

I want to press the steering wheel talk/listen/assistant button and speak to Android Auto. Is there any way to achieve this?

MG5 - battery not full, charger connected - but rejecting charge (so says the charger)

Hello,

I have the older style 2022 MG5 (without the app).

A few times now when connected to my home charger it just refuses to charge.

The charger reports that the vehicle is not requesting a charge.

Usually if I notice and go out, unlock it and disconnect the cable then reinsert it starts up and plays nice.

Sometimes it does it mid way through a charging process - sometimes the charge is rejected immediately when the charger starts.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

[Reviews / Bugs] 2026 Facelifted MG4: Avalanche of software bugs and broken route planner, what are your thoughts?

Hello everyone,

Just two weeks ago, we took delivery of an MG4 Premium (the new 2026 facelifted model). It is a demonstration vehicle that had about 2,000 km on the odometer. While the car is mechanically very pleasant to drive, the software and electronic experience has been a massive disappointment so far.

Here is the list of issues:

  • Route planner completely broken: It's impossible to create a route that includes charging stations. The system refuses to calculate and displays the message: "Unable to create a charging plan. Please manage your charging needs yourself." For an EV in 2026, that's just absurd...
  • Dangerous driver assistance systems (ADAS): The traffic sign recognition system is chronically unstable. On the highway at 110 km/h, the camera sometimes picks up a 90 km/h sign from an adjacent secondary road or an off-ramp. As a result, the car slams on the brakes and slows down abruptly, even when I'm right in the middle of overtaking.
  • Bluetooth microphone / Calls broken: During phone calls, we can hear the person on the other end perfectly, but they can't hear us at all. The car's microphone seems to mute itself or conflict with the system.
  • Terrible radio reception: Radio reception, whether on FM or DAB, is of deplorable quality.
  • Ineffective wireless charging: The wireless charger on the center console does not charge our phones (Pixel 10 Pro).

The vehicle is scheduled to go to the workshop from July 4th to July 7th. In the meantime, the salesperson is playing dumb, claiming that "everything worked perfectly fine when it was a demo car."

Are any other owners of the 2026 facelifted model encountering these same issues?

Do you know if there are specific firmware update references (Target ID or ADAS / MCU module versions) that I should demand from the workshop to force a fix?

Here is the exact software identity of my vehicle:

  • MPU Software Version: SWI196-29176-1100R23
  • TBOX Software Version: 4.01.022.v01
  • ISA Version: EU_DC_T2_28_C1_20250109

Thank you for sharing your experiences and feedback!

Android Auto Wireless Not Releasing Control

Got my MG G4 EV a few weeks ago. Still getting used to everything but love driving it day to day.

Purchased an AAWireless Two+ so I can continue listening to music and podcasts that are playing on my phone.

One pain point is when getting out and locking the car, the AAWireless remains active and my phone continues to try connecting. Its a real fight with the phone S24 with notifications and constant attempts to reconnect to Android Auto.

Anyone else have or solve this issue?

Is there a way to automatically depower the USB slot once car is locked?

I could just pull out the adapter and connect back to USB slot every time too.

How does MG warranty work in the UK?

Hi everyone,

When I try to book an MG repair under the servicing section of their dealer website, it says there's a £200 diagnostic fee. I was just wondering if that fee is refunded if a repair under warranty is deemed feasible? I tried emailing MG about this a few weeks ago (phone line is AI), but they still haven't replied.

Thanks

No auto dark/light mode switching based on headlight status on MG S5EV

Just got MG S5 EV last week and its been great so far, except no auto light/dark mode on head unit user interface.

On apple carplay, it always defaults to whatever the main car theme its at (whether its light or dark). On android auto, it switches dark/light mode when switching the lights.

so the head unit knows the head light status, just dont have the functionality to properly switch (or at least configure it). A simple software update should able to do it...

Now the question is, where do I request MG add this functionality? I already told the dealer

In-car speed limit warning tech fails to read road signs [up to] 25% of the time | AutoExpress

British automotive research institute Thatcham Research looked at the accuracy of so-called ISA (Intelligent Speed Assist) systems which are mandatory on new cars in the EU/EEA and UK (GSR2 Safety Regulations). The systems may audibly warn drivers when the system judges that they are exceeding the maximum allowed speed limit, or some systems e.g. Volvo may automatically reduce throttle response.

The EU mandates that every new ISA system is road tested over 250mi (400km) and must score over 90% accuracy when reading speed limits. Thatcham criticises this distance based methodology and pushes an 'events-based' methodology e.g. testing the system on frequently changing speed limits.

Thatcham tested three models on a wide range of roads and environments, over a combined distance of 4,500mi (7,200km).

Of the tested models the MG ZS fared the worst with an accuracy of 91.3% using the EU distance based methodology, but only 74.3% using the 'events-based' methodology.

The Tesla Model Y tested, scored 98% accuracy using the EU mandated distance based methodology but only 82.6% using the 'events-based' methodology. Notably struggling in areas where its GPS map data was not sufficient. LED-lit signs also proved to be a problem.

The BMW i5 was the best of the cars tested, scoring 98.39% using the distance based methodology and 90.3 using the 'events-based' methodology.

Thatcham's chief ADAS engineer Yousif Al-Ani expressed understanding for user frustration, and subsequently turning off the system due to the high number of times it reads the wrong speed limit, and that the regulation does not correspond to reality on the grou8nd.

EuroNCAP has recently introduced real-world road-testing for ADAS systems

Any MG3 Hybrid+ Drivers?

Hey. Im thinking about buying a MG3 Hybrid+, used and 1-2 years old with about 5000-12000 kilometers. what is your experience with this car? i cant find too much negatives about the car. it seems very solid and it has alot of stuff for that price. im currently driving a old nissan almera(manual) and i hate manual driving. i have it for about 9 years now.

i want to swap to a newer car to have a better driving experience because i really hate manual driving.
i thought that mg3 hybrid+ could be a good car for me because i often drive short distances and i mostly dont drive insane fast. i live in germany and even on the autobahn i dont really speed that much. maybe 160kmh max. i like the 194ps because the only reason i need some power is to pass a few really slow people.

Did you have Problems? Did your Problems got solved with the 7 year warranty? are you happy with your car?

my budget is between 15000€ and 17000€ depending on the car.
i plan to keep the car as long as possible and also i want a car about the size of my old one(Nissan Almera N16 Hatchback 98ps). it should be automatic, have more power than the nissan and should be pretty young.
for me it seems like i get most value out of the mg3 hybrid for my money.
