I have jumped o to Greatsword a few times here and there. So I understand the basics of the combos. But I Struggle with what skills to primarily use. And im not sure if its because of some of the Skill changes in Rise or just my playstyle.

In Iceborne I was running an Odogaron Quick Sheath/Critical Draw build. But then someone told me the Frostfang Barioth set was better because it let your greatsword do Hammer stuff, the ran that for a bit but felt dissapointed and drifted away cause I was never able to get my Wyvern Iginitiom upgraded to T12.

I touched it a lil bit again in Rise. But feel lost on what skills to use because obviously a different game. But alot of skills feel nerfed. And by nerfed I mean in the sense that skills arent as flexible in terms of gems. Attack boost and Critical eye are now tier 2 gems instead of Tier 1.

I also dislike the Asthetic of most Weapons in Rise. Like I Love the Datura set (the Pukei pukei weapons). The Rathalos set and the Magnamalo set. And the Bazel set. But outside of that the designs in Rise kinda leave me meh. And thats also playing a role a bit. But I've been told Poison sucks in Rise. So Datura, the one I'm pulled to the most is deemed weak by others I've turned to. Also its hard to fit Poison dps gems into a build alongside atk and crit and quick sheath etc.

Any recommendations or help?

so the idea is to use partbreaker and a decoration to make me do more damage when i hit broken parts (if that exist)

GS Main here, got Rise at launch on Switch - played it religiously and beat all content (up to AR 300, if memory services) and played GS from day 1 .... through to 800+ hours.

I adore the versatility of this weapon in rise, and all the different playstyles.... particularly fond of Rage Slash and Surge Slash Combo. By endgame I was even running some elemental sets, like a madman.

Nothing has really scratched the itch since. World wasn't really my jam, and the Wilds performance on Steamdeck is pretty dire.

So I got Rise/Break on a great Steamdeck sale and it looks/plays beautifully. Really quite something!

I am starting from scratch, idea to dig in for 20/30 mins a day and grind through the entire story. I'm not using defender gear and wanting to try a brand new weapon.

I've kind of narrowed it down to 2 - ChargeBlade and SwitchAxe.... but can't really decide on which. I want something that is quite versatile, but also relatively accessible for someone who has only ever mained one weapon.

CB and SA mains... what would be a good guide to follow for basics? And which might be the best transitionary weapon coming from GS?

I'm not the best player, but happy to put the time in learning. My monster memory is still quite good, even having put the game down a couple of years back

I am using Minds Eye and PartBreaker lvl2 and I’ve fought this guy 3 times now and the only part I’ve managed to break is its wings. For the whole duration of the fight Im just aiming for its tail and somehow iI’ve never been able to cut it. All good I guess since I got 2 rubys and Rath Mantle but I need that Taillll

Should I just use non-elemental weapons so the fight last longer? what can I do?

Why does this asshole deal significantly more damage than anything in MR so far? Why does he miss half of his attacks (the ones I’m trying to counter) and land his ONE SHOT KICK. WHY DOES HE HAVE A ONE SHOT MOVE?????

I’m aware this is a skill issue.

Me and my friend are going to be playing through Rise / Sunbreak for the first time. My friend is a first timer and has not played any other MH games.

I have played through Worldborne with Longsword and Wilds with Charge Blade.

I would appreciate some suggestions for my friend as a beginner and if you have any for me as more of a intermediate player looking for something new, I know weapons change a decent bit from title to title so I'd be interested if there was a specific weapon thats really fun to use in Rise specificially.
