Rate My MS-A2 Stock Thermal Paste

Opened up my MS-A2 with the Ryzen 9 and this is what the factory thermal paste looks like.

Would you leave it as-is or clean it up and repaste? Curious what you’d rate the stock application.

Pics attached.

BD895i SE really high temps at low CPU usage???

I recently got the BD895i SE and have noticed that I have really high temps at idle speeds. While playing Diablo 4 I seen it was at 101c at 30% usage. But when I run Cinebench r23 the temps are in the low 90s to 93c max at 100% usage. Also, when closing programs the temp will spike to over 100c. I am running a Thermalright TL-C12C 120mm fan, do I need a better fan, and what would be a good one, silence isn't a priority? If so, why would I see the temps so high under low loads and not at full load?

Is there going to be MS-03 Ultra?

I like the MS-02 Ultra. However, I would like to get something with Panther Lake. MS-03 is nice but I need more expandability. That being said, if I had to chose between Panther Lake and more expandability, I would choose the latter.

Should I hold my breath for an MS-03 Ultra variant or should I go ahead with the MS-02 Ultra?

I just built this with a 5070, minisforum bd775i se, RAM, a 250ssd just for windows and lian li Sp750 V2. I connected everything, everything seems done correctly (I have some experience building PC for myself and some friends) but nothing spins to life, no leds, nothing. Does anybody have any idea, something I could do?

Bad experience with miniforum

My experience with Minisforum has been extremely disappointing from start to finish.

It already began badly: it took almost 4 weeks just to get in contact with customer service to report a defective product. Only after that long delay was I finally able to explain the issue.

What happened next was even worse.

Minisforum first tried to refund me 20% less, claiming the product was “used,” even though this was a warranty case. I refused, and only then did they agree to a full refund of €599.

But when the refund finally arrived, they paid 10% less anyway, blaming “bank fees” and expecting me to accept it. Under EU consumer law, warranty refunds must be paid in full, without deductions — and they know this.

From that point on, the situation became absurd:

- I had to spend months emailing back and forth

- They repeatedly gave new excuses

- Deadlines they set themselves were ignored

- “Finance needs to approve it” became a standard line for weeks

- I had to prove myself that they underpaid the refund

- To this day, the remaining amount still has not been paid

This entire process has dragged on for months, and I have invested far more time and effort than any customer should. Minisforum confirmed the full refund themselves, yet still failed to honor it.

This is not how a company should treat its customers.

Think very carefully before buying from Minisforum.

N5 Upgrades for Plex running UnRaid

Hi all,

I am new to NAS's, UnRaid and setting up a Plex server so I thought I'd turn to you all for some help and insight.

I have an N5 NAS and have UnRaid installed on it. I want to add a GPU to help with the transcoding of my Plex library.

My first question is which GPU do you recommend for my purposes and my second question is how important is it to have one? I expect to have around 10 users streaming my library and dont want to have any buffer.

Any other recommendations as far as upgrades? Should i add more RAM?

Thanks in advanced!

Minisforum HX80G external GPU setup?

Hello there, I have a bit outdated Minisforum HX80G and I’m starting to notice that the RX 6600M isn’t really enough anymore. I was originally thinking about building a mini ITX PC, but then got the idea of just buying an external PCI-E dock, PSU & GPU for the mini PC instead.

Has anyone here tried something like this? In theory I was thinking about getting something like an RTX 3070 or 3080, and maybe even using the internal RX 6600M for Lossless Scaling MFG/frame generation.

Mainly curious how well it works in practice, bandwidth limitations, stability, performance loss, etc.

UM890 and DEG1 failure

I set this machine up with a SFF 780W PSU and a 6750XT. It's running Linux, specifically CachyOS. Memory is dual channel DDR5 kit, 48GB kit, Crucial memory. I have two monitors plugged into the computer using the eGPU using Display Port.

When I log in on the system, somewhat randomly, the screens go blank, and the GPU fans ramp up to 100%, the USB goes dead, and the system will reboot, but without the GPU being turned on, or the DEG1 powering up.

There's absolutely nothing in the jornalctl log, it literally just stops and shows the boot process starting.

This is really frustrating, I'm about to give up on the entire machine, I need it to be reliable, but it just isn't.

Before I start chucking parts at this, does anyone have any suggestions or wisdom on this?

Minisforum N5 Pro NAS Bios Update Help

Trying to update BIOS on my Minisforum N5 Pro NAS and ran into a ROMID mismatch issue. Wondering if anyone else has seen this or if Minisforum provided the wrong BIOS package.

System details:

  • Device: Minisforum N5 Pro
  • Motherboard: F8NAB (verified via dmidecode)
  • Current BIOS: 1.01 (10/24/2025)

I downloaded the BIOS package Minisforum support sent me:

F8NAA_STX_1.05_260331.zip

The included BIOS file is:
F8NAA.BIN

The update is supposed to upgrade:

  • BIOS → 1.05 (2026/03/31)
  • EC → v0.14
  • PI → v1.1.0.0c

I booted into the EFI shell and ran:

EfiFlash.nsh

which internally executes:

AfuEfix64.efi F8NAA.bin /p /b /n /k /r ...

But the flash utility immediately fails with:

Error: ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID

After checking the board information, I noticed:

  • Motherboard = F8NAB
  • BIOS package target = F8NAA

So I suspect the BIOS package Minisforum provided is for a different board revision/model.

Additional notes:

  • Secure Boot disabled
  • Flash attempted directly from EFI shell
  • USB detected properly
  • BIOS file reads successfully before failing ROMID validation

Has anyone with an N5 Pro / F8NAB board successfully updated to BIOS 1.05?

Trying to determine whether:

  1. Minisforum uploaded the wrong BIOS package (it seems)
  2. There is a separate F8NAB BIOS
  3. This requires a force flash flag (/X) which I’m hesitant to use without confirmation

Any insight would be appreciated.
