Budget crisis intensifies, hiring freeze, reorganizations....

With dropping enrollment and new deposits more than 200 below last year, excessive tuition discounting and mounting debt the budget situation grows worse. There is a campus-wide hiring freeze currently underway and major restructuring of units going on across campus. You won't hear the president or provost admit any of this publicly. We also don't know how large a salary raise the BOT just gave Koubek in his contract extension until 2031.

Lipo batteries

I fly FPV drones, and other things which require lipo batteries. I was hoping to continue flying and capture some of the places in the keweenaw, but it looks like lipos are not allowed in dorms. Is there somewhere to keep them, or any other suggestions?

Gym Facilities? Workout tips?

What is the best gym complex for Michigan Tech Students to use?

I am an incoming freshman and have little to no gym experience. I used to be on a varsity swim team for Highschool but other than that I have no idea how to workout or where to even start.

From my understanding I know the SDC/Rec Center is the most affordable location for students. But I’ve also heard good things about gyms in the residence halls? What would people recommend, and what would be the least busy times?

I am also inquiring for some tips towards starting to workout/lift/cardio. I have a simple understanding of how to lose weight and what calorie deficits are, but currently I’m struggling to build courage to go to the gym. Thank you!

Does DoorDash/food delivery stay busy in Houghton/Hancock?

Just curious if anyone has experience delivering and if it’s an okay way to make some side money during the school year. Considering it’s a relatively small area I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Housing (quite literally) fell through. Any leads on a rental?

Hi there! I'm an incoming graduate student at Tech this semester.

I was supposed to be moving myself, my wife, and our son into an apartment today, but when we entered it for the first time, we found that the kitchen ceiling had fallen through due to water damage.

Does anyone have any leads on last minute apartments in the area? We ideally need something with 2 bedrooms under 1500 a month. I've been scouring FB marketplace and Zillow, but it looks like slim pickings right now.

Thanks

Dirt bikes in Houghton?

Hello Huskies,

I have recently acquired a beautiful dirt bike off of Facebook marketplace to ride around WI and I’m coming back to school in the fall (to stay in Houghton permanently) and I was wondering if it was worth bringing my dirt bike. I have read mixed things on whether they are allowed on trails north of Houghton and if that is actually enforced. Some more information and maybe a group I could go ride with would be greatly appreciated.

I hope everyone’s move up is going well!
