This week in Coimbra -- free poetry, fado in the garden, and a good excuse to go out Wednesday

Decent week coming up for Coimbra:

- **TRACOS DO POEMA** at Largo do Romal, today 19:00 -- free, performing arts/workshop mix, sounds like a nice way to spend an evening outdoors

- **Em Casa d'Amalia** (fado) at Jardim da Sereia, today -- perfect setting for fado honestly, hard to beat a garden fado night

- **Argentina Nos Une** at Liquidambar, Wed 18:00-00:30 -- food, live music, and party all in one, seems like the pick if you want a full night out

- **Procissao Penitencial** in Baixa de Coimbra, Wed 19:30 -- more traditional/religious event if that's your thing

I'll probably do the fado tonight and save Argentina Nos Une for tomorrow's plans.

Madrid vs Málaga for a family – would love real-family life experiences

Hi everyone! We’re a family of four currently living in Switzerland, seriously considering moving to Spain in the next 1–2 years. Our children will be around 6 and 9, and we’re torn between Madrid and Málaga.

Our main income would not depend on the Spanish job market, which gives us some flexibility. However, I’ve noticed that good-quality long-term rentals in both places can be surprisingly expensive sometimes not that far from what we’re used to in Switzerland. On the other hand, everyday family life seems considerably more affordable, especially children’s activities, eating out, services, etc., while potentially offering us a better overall quality of life.

We’re not looking for an expat bubble or international schools. Ideally, we’d like the kids to attend a good concertado school, integrate locally and learn Spanish properly.

What matters most to us is a safe, family-friendly area, good schools and activities, an open/social environment, good connections to the rest of Europe and modern or renovated housing – ideally an urbanización with a pool and green areas.

Madrid seems to offer much more in terms of schools, culture and opportunities, while Málaga attracts us because of the climate, sea and potentially more relaxed family lifestyle.

I’d especially love to hear from families who have lived in both or seriously considered both. Which would you choose for raising children, and why? And what surprised you after moving – good or bad? Thank you.

Is Malaga safe right now ?

In about two weeks, we're travelling to Malaga (Torremolinos) for a summer vacation with my partner. Recent news told us about the migration crisis in the southern part of Spain, I am genuinely concerned, whether this situation can affect our stay. Before we pay for the hotels and everything, I would like to honestly ask you, if it's ok to go now, we should rather cancel. We're peaceful couple, not interested in night clubs, extreme sports or anything like this. I am just afraid citizen, (member of EU) concerned about my safety.

Disclaimer : I am not inducing any racial nor migration fear or deinfromation.

Grazias!

Plaza de la mercat

Hi, I am considering booking an apartment in plaza de la mercat for 3 nights in November, first floor over a restaurant.

The apartment is a lovely old original spanish style residence. My question is how busy is this area at night, and what kind of clientele.

I have the option of booking other apartments elsewhere in the city but not as big or as characterful.

Many thanks!

Hi, traveling to malaga and will be visiting caminito del rey, The question is, can i use gimbal (DJI osmo mobile 8) without any other extension while walking through the path. I know selfie sticks are not allowed but fin conflicting answers about gimbals, they are not that long so i don't think there should be a problem, but would like to get some confirmation. Thank you in advance!

Fuengirola, where to go

4 guys in our mid 20s (English speakers, but not English). We’re looking for pubs / clubs / spots to go for a few drinks and to have a good night that’s busy. We’ve been looking and it seems quiet bar Malaga city. Any recommendations?

People staring?

I’ve just arrived in malaga and i was at the bus station.
so many people kept looking me up and down especially men and older women. I’m so confused do they not like foreigners or are they curious I have no clue, maybe because i am quite tall?
also saw a sign right where i was sitting by and noticed it said tourists go home 😪

Where to avoid in Malaga

I'm visiting Malaga in a few weeks and would like to know where to avoid. I don't want to visit anywhere that's overrun with loud, rowdy, or drunk British tourists.

Does anyone know what the big smoke and smell is from? I feel like it smells like chemicals.

Where can i buy good earplugs?

Hi guys. I can‘t sleep good at night because it‘s too loud outside. I bought ear plugs from a drugstore but they are not so good. Do you know where can i buy good ones? In/near the historic centre. Thanks

Beaches

I'll be visiting Málaga in a few weeks and would love some beach recommendations. Which beaches are the nicest, and do they have sunbeds and umbrellas for rent? If so, how much do they usually cost?

Semana Santa—just a taste…

I’m going to be in Spain for Las Fallas in Valencia and considering going to Malaga for Semana Santa.

That being said, I’m not sure I want to stay in Malaga and I think after a day or two, I will have had enough of the processions and the crowd.

What would you recommend-stay nearby (e.g Torremolinos) and take the train in or stay in Malaga itself?
