International Voter Drive 2026, for dual U.S.-Korean citizens and other U.S. citizens in South Korea

Hi- I'd like to make an announcement from Democrats Abroad, the official overseas branch of the U.S.-based Democratic Party with a chapter in South Korea. Since an extremely important election is coming in November, we're hoping to register more dual U.S.-Korean citizens and other eligible U.S. voters who live in South Korea.

We started our International Voter Registration Drive for 2026 with in-person and online events. If you know any eligible US citizens, they can register and request a ballot. Just send them this link: https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26. As long as they'll turn 18 by election day, they're eligible.

If anyone wishes to learn more about what we're doing near you, you can find out more at https://www.democratsabroad.org/kr. We have regular in-person meetups and events online. If you have any questions about overseas voting or what we do, feel free to ask in the comments below.

Other than Davidson's Pool, what are some other cool, refreshing options in the area? Don't need much. A foot or two of water is enough!

I am new to the area, but I have walked around Kanaka Creek park lots before, in the winter - I was always curious to know if some of the areas above the falls, towards the fish hatchery, would make for some great wading in the summer, with lower water levels. Let me know!

Meadows Plumbing and Gas

First off its Meadow Ridge Plumbing and Gas. I can't figure out how to edit title. Just want to warn people the type of people they have working for them. Two, grown ass men started screaming at me today as I was trying to turn into my apartment this afternoon. I am a small female who was following the law with not riding on the sidewalk. Cyclist. They purposely blocked my driveway and then proceeded to both scream at me, call me names etc. If they treat regular strangers like this, how do they treat their customers? Just wanted to put the word out. I won't be recommending them to anyone.

post # 2 swimming spots and old mining history

a small adit at the Rolley lake falls pool area. I once hid a container with my email in it in the adit. A year later I received an email that was only a photo looking out from the mine lol. You can find a trail down to the pool, the mosquitos are bad this year fyi

What Maple Ridge needs (Wishlist and Discussion)

Hello neighbours, with all the development and growth happening around Maple Ridge, I’ve been thinking a lot about what would actually improve our quality of life here.

I put together a personal "wishlist" for the city. Curious to hear what you’d add or tweak.

A Dedicated "Crunch / Grind" Workout Trail: We have gorgeous nature walks but we lack a dedicated high incline trail with stairs/steep terrain (think Coquitlam Crunch or Grouse Grind) close to town.

A Fraser River Waterfront Hub: Something like the New West Quay, Steveston or Pitt Meadows waterfront. A spot right on the river with basketball/pickleball courts, wide green space, patio spots and a scenic promenade. Port Haney is right there waiting for this kind of love.

A Walkable, CarFree District: Something inspired by District 1881 in Chilliwack, a few historic or revived blocks packed with local shops, outdoor seating and zero cars. (Maybe 224st)

Lakeside/Park Treats: A proper walk-up ice cream and fish n chips shop right at Alouette Lake, Whonnock Lake, or Kanaka Creek.

A Walkable Pier: A White Rock style pier stretching over the Fraser River for evening strolls and sunset views.

More Shopping Options: A bigger mall or open air outlet, so we don't always have to cross the bridge and head into Coquitlam or Langley for decent retail.

The "Dream Big" Pitch: Bring back a nod to the old Albion Ferry, but make it purely for pedestrians and cyclists or a footbridge connecting Albion directly to McMillan Island / Fort Langley would be a massive win for local tourism and weekend bike trips.

A Maple Ridge Elder is trying to get home to her own land

I wanted to share something happening right here in the Maple Ridge area.

Florence Thomas is 82 years old and the eldest Matriarch of the Whonnock People. She's currently living in a roughly 40-year-old trailer on her ancestral land in Whonnock. The trailer has no running water, isn't properly insulated, has unreliable power, and has become increasingly difficult to live in.

The good news is that a replacement trailer has been donated.

Now the community is working to get that trailer onto her land. The remaining costs include moving the trailer, site preparation, permits, and connecting essential utilities.

Florence's story was recently featured in a local news interview, and it really brought home how difficult her current living situation is.

We're trying to raise $32,000 to get the project completed. Even if you can't donate, sharing the story with other people in Maple Ridge would mean a lot.

Here's the feature if anyone wants to hear Florence speak about her situation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP3PKhzTSLA

And for anyone who would like to help with the project, the fundraiser is here:

https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/help-bring-florence-home-campaign

I'm happy to answer questions about the project in the comments.

In search of budget-friendly wedding photographer!

hi neighbours! my fiancé and I are getting married summer 2027. it’s going to be a very small wedding with max 40 people in a backyard. we’d love to have some professional photos done of the two of us on the big day, but every photographer i’ve reached out to is only offering full-day packages upwards of $2k. while i appreciate that it’s their job and would never complain about someone’s pricing, it’s just not in our budget unfortunately. i’m wondering if there’s anyone local who would be available for about an hour of photos at our wedding, for a more budget-friendly option? thanks in advance ❤️

swimming and old mines

I get two or thee requests yearly for both old mine sites and out of the way swimming holes.

I visited one area recently and will share pics and some details, Whonnock area.

the Old Walden mine, hard rock mine from the early 1900s, not much to see now as the shaft is filled in but there is a cement wall just above it and another adit 100 meters upstream. accessible from the With God Trail up off of MCnutt, go down to the river when you find the hat nailed to a tree lol. The log across the river I believe is was the start of the log flume of the same era, it reportedly went down over the mine (filling it with water) then east to the Stave river. would have loved to see that. Details of the old workings can be read in the book In the Golden mountains by Charles A Miller. I have a pdf copy of it and a hard copy of his other book about the Stave.

here is a link to some of my older photos of the area https://flic.kr/s/aHsk1aMHWt
