Decided to do my personal ranking of POP songs. Tbh it’s a no skip album for me. Sex Is Power is my least favourite but it’s still not a bad song in my opinion. This album will forever be a classic for me 🎀

Which "non ballad" song would you love to hear in a piano only version, performed by Marina?

If you could pick one song that is NOT already a ballad and hear Marina perform it as an intimate piano version, what would it be?

I really think that most of her discography would work beautifully even in a minimalist arrangement ✨ 🎹

Also, does anyone know if there’s a specific reason why she doesn't do this kind of performance anymore, that I might have missed? Or is it just a deliberate choice for her recent shows?

I'm linking this version of Happy because I'm feeling nostalgic for her voice with just accompanying piano :)

EDIT: Since I play a bit of piano myself, I’d love to take your suggestions and see how they sound on the keys, even if just by ear!

If L+F kept the unreleased tracks, instead of the tracks we ended up getting, do you guys think that L+F would‘ve been "on the same league"as Marina’s previous albums like Froot?

So in today’s hypnothetical scenario, let’s say this was the tracklist for Love + Fear, instead of the one Marina ended up releasing:

Cruel
Demons & Angels
Please don’t call me
The Art of letting go
There‘s nothing wrong with you
Water under the Bridge
(If it‘s) worth it
Doubt your love
Absent Love
Holiday
What I wanna do
Beautiful World
Cause I‘m a woman

If this was the tracklist, do you guys think that people in the fandom would’ve considered L+F to be a great and strong follow-up to Froot?

Don’t you think DIGITAL FANTASY would’ve worked as a single?

The title and the whole “video game” concept are super strong, and the melody becomes really recognizable within seconds.

It also fits really well with the album’s concept. It’s not just some random track, it feels like the core of the record, along with FINAL BOSS. You could say those are the ones that best represent the era.

Plus, it’s pretty different from what we’re used to in mainstream pop right now.

I know it’s a risky pick, but it’s just so catchy and fun. I feel like it had a lot of potential to stand out more within the album, not gonna lie.

I think Marina is more problematic than some fan think

sorry sorry, I know I seem like your problem too, I'm not that much of a jerk in life but I have to write my complaints somewhere. So I'm also a Lana Del Rey fan, who also does shitty things, but somehow it never bothered me as much as what Marina does. I've always connected more to Marina's previous albums and music, but Lana's personality is closer to me. I don't mean old people, just Christianity, coolness, kindness and the whole vintage dreaminess. Lana has always been a girl who thought she was better than others. I don't know, you can hear that in Mariners Apartment Complex and Sweet, in the qftc post too. Marina was a bit like that too, maybe even more so in the Tfj and FROOT era. The problem is that this Marina is a thousand times MORE LIKEABLE to me than today's feminist. I get it, of course, now she's happy, now many people say she's mature. Who said that's the problem? People tend to think of the "pick me" lifestyle as drastic because oh my, how evil. But honestly, just look at Marina, she wrote a character about the stereotype that sluts don't have hearts and she proved that they can be confused, lonely too. Or on the other hand, Lana tells her story wonderfully, she really loves her men. So who cares if she's pick me if she's also intelligent? And she's really different from other girls. Yes, I think I'm a pick me or a snob, I've always been different from the others, but I'm also the nicest girl you'll ever meet. Why would I say I'm like the others if I'm not? I'm not the mean girl from school, I wouldn't throw you under the bus because I want a man so much, I'm not doing it for the male gaze. Everyone has their bad qualities. I'm even right. Coming back to Marina, yes, it is problematic that she is probably not on good terms with Lana because of the qftc, which is not as bad as what Melanie Martinez did, but she is still friends with her. Marina shows that she is nice, almost a saint, but in the meantime she blocks you if you write bad things about her poetry, if you want her to have Electra Heart-level lyrics again, the answer is "I'm not 25 anymore" okay Marina, and Froot? I would move on to politics. She always does what is trending. Like a normal empathetic person, she wrote a letter saying that what happened to the Israelis was terrible, and then the teenage tiktok free palestine accounts told her that Israel is shit. She banned her music for civilians' asses as if that would solve anything, which is literally the same as if you were to ban your music from all Americans just because the majority voted for Trump. Her feminism used to be more mature, in Can't Pin Me Down she says she can be a feminist and cook for her husband. Nowadays she's on a Sabrina Carpenter-like "yes, yes, I have a boyfriend, I like men, but I kill them in the music video" level. With that much power, you could kill women too, darling. And Marina in Cntissimo is discussing such a superficial and boring topic. What is this "let the guy read, don't let him into bed", why not?! It's as if this whole man hating trend has reached her and she's no longer saying yes, I have a boyfriend, but many guys are bad, there are good guys too. But "yes, men are monsters".

Katy Perry's opening outfit at Rock in Rio 👀

Do you guys think it's a deliberate Marina reference? She does know Marina.

Marina and robots

Do you think there’s a bit of ‘tism or futurism with Marina with how much she references robotics, digital mediums, etc?

Like there’s I am not a robot, the archetypes (audio effects), digital fantasy. So many more I’m missing rn.

I just find the juxtaposition interesting with the flat tone of robotic pings and how operatic her voice can get

STH INTERESTING I NOTICED...

I noticed sth interesting while looking at the Spotify streams for these songs:

  • I Love You But I Love Me More:
    • Album version: 18,149,626
    • feat. Beach Bunny: 14,597,125
    • Combined: 32,746,751
  • Obsessions:
    • Album version: 21,666,275
    • Independent single (not on the album): 12,078,600
    • Combined: 33,744,875
  • Hollywood:
    • The one that appears on the standard version of the album TFJ: 27,103,799
    • Single Version - TFJ (Deluxe): 29,562,124
    • Combined: 56,665,923

The weirdest case is Purge The Poison. The solo album version and the Pussy Riot feature version are listed as separate tracks, but on Spotify they’re actually grouped under the same recording, which means they share the exact same stream count.

Both versions currently show 51,172,453 streams. So even though they’re different releases, Spotify combines all the streams into a single total instead of splitting them between the two versions.
