Need help narrowing down Serial Number A181174. I have a 175 mercury black max on a newly acquired 1986 Champion fish and ski. I've looked everywhere and every site says it's invalid. I'll attach a picture that shows it plain as day. Is there something I'm missing?

Part identification

Can someone tell me what this rusty tab is on my new-to-me 2002 Mercury 9.9?

Have been scrubbing the internet and cannot get a positive id.

Thanks all👍
