Couple small warmouth, couple sizable ones, I’m actually not quite sure what that sunfish species is.. maybe a colorful juvenile spotted sunfish? Also netted a small patch of weeds along the bank and found this colorful little pygmy sunfish (I think).
Caught both on a small 1/64 oz squirrel tail jig.
Flier and redbreast sunfish. Lowcountry of SC, mainly around the Francis Marion National Forest. I’ve been scouring onx and maps to find any bodies of water at all and throwing either a tiny topwater popper or bobber and worm. I’m looking for blue spotted sunfish next but i’m not sure if they’re around this area..
They are about an inch long. [Destin, Florida]
Spent the last week chasing down the fish diversity that my home waters of Chester County, Pennsylvania has to offer. Identifications are included in each photo! For being about 40 minutes from Philly in an overdeveloped suburban area, we still have some cool fish hanging around 🤙
Managed to get a quick trip out to a local creek (Southeastern Pennsylvania) before the worst of the heat wave. I was seriously considering going for a swim instead, but it’s not the cleanest waterway. It was full of these little fellas, which I believe to be Bluntnose Minnows (approx. 2.5 inches) I’ll be hibernating in the air conditioning until the temperatures simmer down. Stay cool out there friends !
I'd like to get into micro fishing, but my idea of it is not often what I actually see online. I don't want to micro fish with a normal ultralight rod, i want a rod specifically for micro fishing, where if i were to accidentally hook into a bluegill, it would fight like a shark. It would also be real small, maybe a foot-foot and a half.
I know the general principles of making a rod, at least with installing eyes and a reel seat and all that jazz. But my question is:
Can i make a micro fishing rod for cheap? what should i use for the blank?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Tule perch are the only subspecies of freshwater surfperch and are endemic to California. There are three subspecies of these fish, the sacramento tule perch which mostly resides in the sacramento and san Joaquin rivers and the delta, the clear lake tule perch which is endemic to clear lake, and the Russian river tule perch shown here which is endemic to the Russian river. The three look quite distinct with the Russian river and clear lake tule perch having more yellow blotches compared to the sacramento subspecies
Some gulf killifish (Fundulus grandis) I caught with my microfishing gear today. Corpus Christi, TX, USA.
Nice logperch while doing some non microfishing
