Made this quick breakdown of released and announced Mini GT models by brand.
The conclusion is simple: collecting JDM is probably the most expensive route possible. Too many Nissans, Toyotas, Hondas, and Mazdas to ignore.
What do you collect: a specific brand or collection theme, or do you just buy everything that looks too good to pass on?
I’ve been a lifelong collector of action figures, but I’ve stayed away from diecast cars because I only had a passing interest in them and know the kind of rabbit hole it can be. I was intent on simply lurking around here until I picked my first Mini GT up from a fellow collector, purely out of nostalgia - I did have a 190E toy car growing up.
But, man! These things are so rad in-hand! I love it, and I can see myself picking up a few more premium diecast cars now. But, I’d really like to know how you folks pace yourselves and don’t slide down this slippery slope?
This is a picture from Tokyo Auto Salon 2025. A bunch of cars from Top Secret and Super GT were shown either in Metal Diecast or painted form, but never released due to maybe licencing issues. Any other examples of this?

So I preordered this through Petersen and it’s my first mini gt car. Always been a hot wheels fan, but wow the mini gt is so cool and detailed. My 2 and a half year old loves hot wheels and cars too so it’s a fun thing we share in.
I have to ask why is the car gray instead of the white 711 car that was advertised?
I actually think I like it better. The bottom of it also looks like a purple superheated metal or alloy. Maybe oil slick look is the best way to describe it. The casting as a whole is so cool though.

I'm completely new to customizing MINI GT cars and I'm planning my first custom build. Before I start, I wanted to ask for some advice from people with more experience.
Few questions:
1:Where do you usually get your decals for MINI GT customs?
2:Do you buy pre-made decal sheets, print your own, or use custom services?
3:What type of decals do you recommend (water-slide decals, vinyl stickers, or something else)?
4:If you're using vinyl, what kind/brand works best for 1:64 scale?
5:Do you have any favorite websites, sellers, or stores for decals and vinyl?
One more thing-I don't plan on using a clear coat because I don't want to alter the factory paint finish. If I skip the clear coat, which type of decals or vinyl would hold up best and still look clean over time?
Any beginner tips would also be greatly appreciated.
