Rate my “vigilante Marinette” idea

Took a lot of inspiration from Dark Deku from MHA, after a hypothesized situation where Felix confesses to who Gabriel really was, and says that Ladybug lied to protect him, Marinette goes into hiding as the remaining Miraculers, under Cat Noir’s leadership, have to handle essentially non-stop Akuma alerts from all of the civilian unrest, that is, until Marinette returns, though not as Ladybug, but as a new hero in a significantly different suit, and using a new name, Ladybird, as the “new” holder of the Ladybug Miraculous, acting as a solo hero sometimes helping the actual Miraculers, sometimes just staring, from afar

best Aged up or au fics pls!

I binged the series a couple of weeks ago, and I have read a couple of different fanfics now (only like 2). But they are both about children! I want to read romance between ADULTS pls! (at least 20, people! 18 is barely an adult). It's weird and kinda creepy when they are underage. (I know they are in the show, but like).

I want angst, I want enemies to lovers, and I want it between adults!
If the fic is in an AU with an interesting spin on the general premise in addition, it will be greatly appreciated.

I have also been pleasantly surprised by Felix as Chat Noir x Marinette fics, soooo likee.

Would people stop liking Chloe if she actually reedem?

Recently I made a post where I talked about how Chloé and Marinette are judged very differently by some people in the fandom. Basically how people praise Chloé whenever she does something good while forgetting alot of the bad things she did, but whenever Marinette does something wrong people use it against her while ignoring all the good things she has done.

I also mentioned how I understand why people were disappointed with how Chloé's development was handled. She actually showed potential for a redemption and there were moments where it seemed like she could actually become a better person. My problem was more with how some people use those moments to idolize Chloé, when alot of her good actions were either because she was forced to do something or because she wanted something in return.

But one of the comments on that post had an opinion that I actually found pretty interesting and it made me think.

They mentioned how alot of Chloé's good actions were mainly for glory or to impress Ladybug and werent really selfless. But they also said something else, that if Chloé actually got redeemed people might've hated that version of her because she would've lost her iconic "mean girl" personality.

And I wanted to share my opinion about that.

First of all this isnt a post to send hate or insult the person who said it. I mainly made this because I genually found the idea interesting. Would people actually dislike a redeemed Chloé because she isnt the mean girl anymore? I just want to explain my point of view and hopefully hear what other people think.

In my opinion theres multiple ways a character who was originally a villain antagonist or enemy can get redeemed while still keeping the things that made them unique.

One of the best examples is Vegeta from Dragon Ball. He became a way more caring husband and father but he still has his pride arrogance and competitive personality. Becoming a better person didnt suddenly remove everything that made Vegeta who he is.

Another example could be Shadow from Sonic. He isnt really a normal hero or completely friends with Sonic but he still respects him and helps when its actually necesary. He isnt a villain anymore but he still follows his own path and does things his own way.

I think Chloé couldve been the same.

Her becoming a better person dosent mean she suddenly has to be nice and friendly with everyone. She could still be arrogant dramatic and obsessed with fashion. She could still have her pride about being the daughter of the mayor of Paris, still care about status and still have that attitude that makes her Chloé.

She also dosent need to suddenly become Marinette's best friend. I actually think it would be more interesting if they still didnt really like each other. The difference would be that Chloé eventually learns to respect Marinette and stops treating her and everyone else like they're below her.

A redemption arc dosent have to remove what made a character iconic, it just means they grow from their worst traits. Chloé could still be Chloé without needing to be a bully or a terrible person.

Also I dont think starting to do good things for selfish reasons is necesarily a bad thing, specially at the beginning of a redemption. Sometimes a character can start doing something for completely selfish reasons but slowly realize that doing something good for someone actually feels good.

We could use the typical helping an old lady cross the street cliche as an example.

Imagine Chloé sees Ladybug nearby so she decides to help an old lady cross the street just because she wants Ladybug to see it and praise her. Ladybug realizes what Chloé is trying to do and basically ignores her. Obviously this frustates Chloé because the entire reason she did it was to impress Ladybug.

But then the old lady genually thanks Chloé for helping her.

Chloé probably wouldnt care that much at first maybe she would just say "whatever" and leave. But later she starts thinking about it. So she decides to experiment a little and starts helping other people with small things.

At first she still expects something from it. Praise attention or people telling her how amazing she is. But eventually she starts realizing that she actually likes helping people and seeing them happy.

And I think thats where her good actions being selfish at first could actually become part of her development instead of being proof that she could never change.

She wouldnt suddenly become this completely sweet and selfless person either. She could still complain while helping someone, still act like what she did wasnt a big deal and still want attention sometimes. She would still have her pride attitude and personality. The important part is that slowly her reasons for doing good things starts changing.

And personally I think the climax of her redemption couldve been her relationship with her mother.

For most of her life Chloé desperately wanted Audrey's attention and approval even tho Audrey barely cared about her. So instead of Chloé's redemption ending with her simply becoming "nice" I think it would've been way more interesting if it ended with her finally letting go of that obsession.

Imagine Audrey gets akumatized again and Chloé has to confront her as Queen Bee.

This time Chloé isnt fighting because she wants Ladybug to praise her or because she wants everyone to see how amazing Queen Bee is. She's fighting against the person whose approval she spent so much of her life trying to get because she finally understands that she dosent need Audrey's approval anymore.

I think something like that couldve completed her redemption without completely changing who Chloé is.

She could still be arrogant dramatic, prideful and obsessed with fashion. She could still have arguments with Marinette and still think she's better than most people sometimes. She just wouldnt be the same person who constantly hurts others and treats them like they're worthless.

To me thats what would've made a Chloé redemption interesting. Not replacing her personality with a completely different one but watching the same personality slowly become better.

But what do you think? Would Chloé actually lose what makes her interesting if she became a better person? Or do you think she couldve been redeemed while still keeping the personality that made people like her in the first place?

Felix could have dodged Yaxi Gozen's attack if his ring wasn't with Adrian. This episode wasn't bad, but it could have been better if Felix wasn't frozen.

I didn't like how the writers made Felix look like he was weak Felix dodged three super villains and more without Peacock Miraculous and also in season 5 episode 19 he managed to save Kagami and Felix is skilled in fighting and he is also smart. If he had dodged the attack we would have seen him fight as Argos it would have been really interesting if he hadn't been frozen the episode would have been better though. That's my opinion so what do you think?

Fics where food is used to show love

Hey everyone.

So I'm looking for something oddly specific. I would love to read fics in which food and cooking is used to show love. Preferably with Marichat. To make it even more specific (but this is optional) Adrian/ Chat is on a diet due to his modelling but this plan does not account for his superhero activities. So he's hungry all the time and Mari (or someone else) shows her love/ appreciation by cooking/backing/ offering food

I also love all tropes that are something like found home and or found family.

So if you know any fanfiction I might like, or some really good Marichat fanfiction, tell me. I'm looking forward to reading them

Miraculous Ladybug writing sucks

I genuinely hate the writing in this show sometimes. It is MIND-BOGGLING how a show with incredible lore has such horrible writing for charcters, fights, and powers.

Let's start off with charcters, specifically the side ones (not the new s6 side charcters but the old ones)

Mirelle Caquet (I think thats how you spell it) - This is such a minor charcter that's its a problem. She could've been used in the story since forever, she could've been a hero, she could've been apart of Marinettes friend group, or she could've a fashion rival or something. She is genuinely just a charcter with a name, that does nothing and it angers me.

Theo Barbot - This guy's charcter was so cooked. They made him and thought, a young man who's making a name for himself by sculpting and he's crushing on Ladybug, think he would be a nice villian or just made him in a rush to make a ep where Cat is a bad guy. It would've been nice to see Marinette date another boy and hold off on the LadyNoir and Ladrien. He also could've been nice temp holder of a miraculous.

Veronica - The akumatized villian Desperada, she could've been a nice first love for Juleka before she realized she was in love with Rose. She also could've been more present throughout the entire series as a supporter.

Aurora- This one is the worst because she has been seen through the seasons, and has dreams but she's only Stormy Weather and that's all. She def has the best chance of being a holder of a miraculous no question. I would love to have a seperate girl friend group aside from Marinette in the usually yk.

Her, Mirelle, Zoe, Sabrina, Algae, and Sublime.

___________

Majors charcters now

Gabriel Agreste - I love his character but if they showed his descent into madness more and gave parrels to his original goal and who he was as Monarch it would've been goated. Also him realizing in the end that he was evil who've been peak before sacrificing would've been peak.

Chloe Bourgeois- I love this one to but I hate the way they wrote her. They acted as if they couldn't give a bully a backstory.

They taunted at her growth into a good person and then turned around and made her bad all over again. I will forever die on the hill that Chloe could've been one of the greatest charcters this show would've ever seen.

(Not claiming actions were good or defending them im just saying)

Lila- I really like the "villians"...anyways, my problem with Lila is how lucky she is. How she always gets away with everything and how they dull down other charcters (Akuma Class) in her presence. She's mart for sure, if charcters intelligence were brought to the level they are supposed to be on Lila would be a genius. We can see that she is smart, but it's mostly luck and instead making it her theme, they call it planning.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng- Marinette is cool but I feel like she got away with to much, and made to many dumb descions for plot when she is shown to be smarter.

I think they also are tried to hard to make her tragic when she really isn't. She has two loving Marinette, has talent recognized by celebs, a large group of friends, the support of her entire city, and a loving boyfriend.

The only problem she has is the one shes making for herself keeping a promise to a deadman she doesn't even like.

Adrien Agreste- They can't keep doing this to my boy, he is constantly side tracked. He def should have a bigger role in the story especially since he definitely has the more interesting life. There are a bunch of problems but im getting to tired to explain.

__________

Plot holes and Power system

These could've never have happen if they fixed the power system in this show.

Speaking of why have we only seen 2 kinds power ups and only of 2 charcters. 2 other characters have only gotten 1 power up and that's all. Aren't there more powers given by those macaroons.

That's all I wanted to do was rant so yea

Looking for marichat fics with this trope?? ╥﹏╥

Okay this is SOOO specific but I've been on a total superhero kick lately and after I rewatched all of the Toby Maguire spiderman movies (because I don't typically go back to them) I was rewatching miraculous and it hit me how much I adored the idea of a marichat spiderman kiss (like the one in this photo)

I've seen art like this or the ones where ladybug is upside down but I'm looking to see if anyone has any marichat fics with a moment like the "spiderman kiss" depicted in this fan art??

THIS IS SO NICHE I KNOW BUT MY GOD??? I can't find any but I don't think any marichat fics would really tag it usually if they DID have this in their fic so lol

If anyone has any I'd be totes SIKED but if not that's too bad but it's cool anyway!!! Thought I'd ask because it's literally so specific there's no other possible way of looking 。°(°¯᷄◠¯᷅°)°。

An alternate course of events where Cat Noir fights Monarch instead of Ladybug (read desc)

Edit: people keep saying Gabriel’s family ring would shut down this entire AU, and they’re right, so here’s a counter-argument. The sheer magic exuding from the unification of the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses negates the Sentimonster spell. Ya happy now?

This AU takes place around the finale of Season 5, with several major events playing out differently. When Adrien is in London and Plagg pressures him to leave as Cat Noir after destroying the cameras, Adrien actually listens. He Cataclysms his way through the walls and flies back to Paris as Astro Cat. Meanwhile, Marinette is dealing with her own nightmares, so she has Tikki temporarily give the Ladybug Miraculous to someone else. After briefly trying Alya, Tikki immediately goes to the Cat Noir infiltrating the Agreste Manor.

The events inside the mansion play out almost identically to canon, except Adrien is there instead of Marinette. This results in both Adrien and Gabriel discovering each other’s identities, making the confrontation considerably more personal and intense. Adrien fights his father directly and lands far more punches than Marinette did in the original timeline. He also eventually fuses the Ladybug and Cat Noir Miraculouses to become Bug Noir.

In the middle of the battle, Gabriel drops the revelation that Adrien, Felix, and Kagami are all Sentimonsters, hoping the information will distract and destabilize him. Gabriel ultimately makes his wish, but afterward, Adrien takes his Graham de Vanily family ring. He then confronts Nathalie, who finally breaks down and admits that she was Mayura. Before Adrien leaves, she gives him the other twin family ring.

With both rings in his possession—and both containing his amok—Adrien’s intellect and reflexes become noticeably sharper. In this AU, the explanation is that Adrien was never naturally as unintelligent or oblivious as he appeared throughout the series. Gabriel had been manipulating him through the magic connected to his amok, deliberately keeping him easier to control. Once Adrien possessed both rings himself, that influence was gone, allowing his natural intelligence and instincts to emerge.

Not long afterward, Adrien holds a press conference. He explains that Monarch had rebuilt the stolen Miraculouses into a more technological form and coerced Gabriel into making the Alliance Rings systematically compatible with those rebuilt Miraculouses. This, Adrien claims, is how the villains of the season were able to access Miraculous powers through their rings. When someone asks how he knows this, Adrien simply says that Cat Noir enlightened him.

Adrien then encourages everyone who owns an Alliance Ring to leave it at the Agreste Manor so the rings can be melted down. The metal is then sold, with the proceeds being donated to charity. He also liquidates the Gabriel fashion brand and puts the Agreste Manor up for sale, donating the resulting assets along with the money obtained from the melted Alliance Rings.

After Felix and Amelie move to Paris, Adrien moves in with them. He also convinces Amelie to keep the Gorilla as their bodyguard, reasoning that he is the only adult who had been consistently present in Adrien’s life without being involved in Monarch’s schemes.

Over the summer, Adrien undergoes a drastic personal transformation. He dyes his hair black and abandons his old preppy wardrobe in favor of streetwear, primarily wearing oversized hoodies, sweatpants, leather jackets, varsity jackets, and similar clothing. He and Felix also legally change their surnames to Graham de Vanily in honor of their mothers, while Amelie becomes Adrien’s legal guardian.

By this point, Adrien is almost unrecognizable from the boy he was at the beginning of the series. Alongside his new appearance, he develops a much drier sense of humor and a far more sarcastic, smartass personality. His transformation is reflected in his superhero identity as well, leading to a new suit: Shadow Noir, with the purple elements removed, extending from the neck down, along with his newly black hair.

Adrien’s relationship with Marinette also changes his feelings toward Ladybug. While he is still dating Marinette, his old romantic obsession with Ladybug has completely disappeared. As Cat Noir, he stops using lovestruck nicknames such as “M’lady” and “Bugaboo,” instead calling her “Buggie” or simply “Ladybug.”

Adrien eventually reveals his identity to Felix and Amelie. He already knows Felix is intelligent enough to handle the revelation, especially since he knows Felix is Argos. Amelie is similarly unsurprised, as she already knows that Felix is Argos.

Most importantly, Cat Noir is no longer Ladybug’s blind follower. Adrien begins acting as her equal and frequently takes command during battles. If Ladybug is examining a Lucky Charm and trying to figure out a strategy, Cat Noir might already be beating the shit out of the villain instead of standing around waiting for her instructions. He still respects Ladybug and works with her, but he refuses to simply function as her sidekick.

Eventually, Adrien takes this even further. Determined to establish himself as an equal rather than someone who merely follows Ladybug’s orders, he deliberately corners her into a situation where she is forced to reveal the identities of Miraculous holders he does not know, such as Vesperia, Purple Tigress, Rooster Bold, Minotaurox, and the others. His reasoning is simple: if Ladybug expects him to trust her with the secrets of the team while treating him as an equal partner, then she needs to extend that same trust to him.

What do you guys think of all of this? I haven’t written anything myself because I’m not good at it, so I hope any of you lovely people will write your own stuff for this AU! Pls gimme link to it if you do so pls

I cannot find this fanfic for the life of me

I was in the fandom during 2020-2022 (I still am just not as focused until recently), there was a popular fanfic that made everyone cry, it was angst, it involved Marinette being seriously injured, khs or dying, I don't remember 😭.

The main thing about it was letters, letters to her friends, family and Chat Noir and stuff, it was on Wattpad, it might've in Spanish I'm not sure ☹️

A concept about a new Miraculous jewel (🦇) I made. What do you think? ⬇️

🦇 The Bat Miraculous 🦇

Power - Perception

The Bat Miraculous is a pendant worn on a thin, adjustable chain, that can be lengthened or shortened. In its charged/active form it appears as a stylized, dark-metallic (deep charcoal to near-black with subtle iridescent purple or indigo sheen) bat silhouette whose outstretched wings form a subtle crescent or arc. The body of the bat contains a small, luminous central “eye” or faceted stone that glows softly with a cool silver-violet light when the Miraculous is charged. The wings have delicate engraved membrane lines reminiscent of real bat anatomy. In camouflaged mode the pendant can shift color, texture, and even slight shape to blend with ordinary jewelry (a simple dark geometric pendant, a bat-wing motif necklace, a moon-and-star piece, etc.), matching the holder’s civilian style exactly as the Ladybug earrings or the Black Cat ring do.

Kwami: Noxx

Noxx is the Kwami of Perception. Like all Kwamis, Noxx is an ancient cosmic entity born from the abstract concept of perception itself—awareness across distance, detection of the concealed, and the recognition of threat or need. Noxx has existed since the relevant concept crystallized in the universe and has the same multi-universal awareness and long memory as Tikki, Plagg, and the others.

Appearance - Small, floating, bat-like form. Soft dark-furred body (deep indigo-black to charcoal), large pointed ears, big luminous eyes that shift between silver, violet, and soft amber depending on mood or focus, delicate membranous wings that can fold tightly against the body, and a short tail. Noxx has the typical Kwami proportions and a faint, almost sonic shimmer around the wings when excited or using residual perception. Voice is soft, slightly echoing, calm and observant, with a tendency toward dry, precise observations.

Personality - Quiet, watchful, and highly analytical. Noxx notices details others miss and often speaks in measured, insightful statements. Loyal once trust is earned, but cautious about revealing information too quickly—perception without wisdom can be dangerous. Enjoys quiet observation of the world (nighttime cityscapes, hidden corners, the subtle movements of people). Favorite food is typically something associated with night or fruit-bat themes (dark berries, certain jams/jellies, dark chocolate). Noxx can become overstimulated if the holder’s power is overused, paralleling sensory overload.Noxx is bound by the same ancient spells: cannot speak the current holder’s civilian name to other Kwamis or holders who do not already know it, and follows all Guardian-imposed restrictions.

Transformation

Activation phrase - “Noxx, Nightfall!”

Detransformation phrase - “Noxx, Daybreak.”

Adult holders can remain transformed indefinitely (with practice and understanding). Underage holders follow the standard five-minute timer after using the primary power, with the usual warning signals (the central stone of the pendant dims or the costume’s wing motifs begin to fade).

Tool - Bat-Shaped Boomerang

The primary tool is a bat-shaped boomerang (compact when stored, expandable). It is dark metallic with wing membranes that can catch air or light, allowing precise throws, returns, and limited guided flight.

Functions include:

- Standard combat and utility (striking, blocking, deflection, disarming, cutting, retrieving objects, thrown with perfect return can strike multiple targets, ricochet).

- Communication device, camera, GPS, search engine, storage, tracking devices, earpieces.

Primary Superpower: Vision

Activated by speaking the word “Vision!”. Vision grants the holder an intense, focused expansion of perception.

Effects include:

- Seeing across great distances (line-of-sight or beyond, with concentration).

- Detecting hidden objects, people, or traps (through walls, illusions, camouflage, or darkness to a significant degree).

- Sensing impending danger directed at the holder or allies (subtle premonitory “pings” or visual overlays of threat trajectories).

- Locating allies in trouble (a directional sense or visual highlight of those the holder has an emotional or team connection to).

- Enhanced detail perception: microscopic-level observation at close range or the ability to “read” environmental clues that would normally be missed.

The power can be aimed (focus on a specific person, location, or object) or used more broadly (area scan). Overuse risks sensory overload, temporary disorientation, or accelerated drain of the transformation timer for underage holders. It does not grant mind-reading or absolute omniscience; it is sensory and probabilistic detection rooted in the concept of Perception. In adult form or with mastery, the holder can sustain lower-level passive perception longer and refine the power (e.g., filtering information or sharing limited sensory feed with trusted teammates via the tool).Vision pairs thematically with existing powers (Illusion from the Fox can be pierced more easily; Protection from the Turtle can be coordinated with advance warning; Creation/Destruction can be guided by precise information).

Power-Ups and Unification

Compatible with all known Miraculous potions (Aqua, Space, Ice, etc.), granting corresponding elemental or environmental adaptations while retaining Perception.

Unification with other Miraculouses follows standard rules: the holder gains combined abilities and can invent hybrid techniques (e.g., Vision + Multitude for swarm scouting; Vision + Second Chance for highly informed temporal loops). Over-unification remains dangerous.

In conclusion, Perception complements the dualistic Creation/Destruction of Ladybug and Cat Noir, the emotional transmission of Butterfly/Peacock, the protective barrier of Turtle, the illusory deception of Fox, and the temporal intuition of Snake/Rabbit. Bats symbolize transition, intuition, the ability to navigate darkness, and heightened awareness. Perception as a concept complements Creation and Destruction by revealing the truth of a situation so that the right action can be chosen. It is an ideal “support/spy” Miraculous for the Miraculers—perfect for locating akumas, finding hidden allies, spotting Monarch-style traps, or coordinating large-scale battles. A holder of the Bat Miraculous naturally serves as the team’s scout, early-warning system, and seeker of hidden truths—valuable against akumatized villains who rely on surprise, camouflage, or distant operations, and against any future threats involving lost Miraculouses or parallel-universe variants.

So, what do you think? Feel free to comment.

Fics where Adrien learns the truth?

So! I was wondering if there are fics that take place post s5, and Adrien learns everyone has been lying to him.

Conflict with Ladybug, Breakups, or a deep dive into his thoughts are all great! But I’m not sure I want fics that takes his mental health far past what canon could do.

Ao3 fics would be appreciated instead of wattpad fics<

I’d love to find more fics but there isn’t a tag for this on ao3 as far as I know so… i’m looking forward for some recs. Ty!!

What are some headcanon about you've seen and what are your own?

Tell me all the head cannons.

You've seen in miraculous fan fictions.

For me this comes from alot of batfamily / miraculous fanfics

Miraculous has Biometric monitoring. Can provide information such as:

Blood-cell count,Oxygen saturation,Bone integrity. ( Seeing this in the marinettes/ time drake fanfic)

Communication systems. The suit can be upgraded with communications equipment. Ladybug's yo-yo ans all miraculous magically connect to any available communication networks. Even encrypted systems like the Bath family uses

Automatic speech translation

Miraculous holders can understand verbal languages and dialects.

The translation converts them into the holder's primary language.

Telepathic Kwami communication

Adult transformed holders can communicate with their Kwami telepathically.

Subtle long-term enhancement

The Miraculous subtly enhances the user the longer they use it.(happens to Marinette ALOT )

For Marinette when ses guardian she usally gets a list of abilities like

Ability to cleanse areas containing excessive chaos energy.

Ability to see a person's soul after becoming Grand Guardian.

Ability to use Miraculous magic independently as Guardian.

Ability to create protective spells against Miraculous interference

Guardian magic. Etc

Bunny miraculous is Protector of the Sacred Timeline

Theres a miraculous box for all Pantheon and civilization

What if Marinette had gotten a different best friend instead of Alya? I honestly think Kagami could have worked incredibly well

I have always had this thought about Marinette’s friendships.

What if Marinette had gotten a different best friend much earlier in the series?

For years, whenever I thought about this, the two characters that usually came to mind were Chloé and Kagami. Obviously, Chloé is a much more complicated choice because of her bullying and the way she treats people, so I never really thought she would be the best option unless the show had completely rewritten her character from the beginning.

But Kagami is different.

The more I look at Marinette and Kagami’s friendship, the more I think Kagami could have been a genuinely great best friend for Marinette if she had been introduced earlier and given more consistent development.

And after Season 6, especially everything surrounding “Secret Protocol” and “Nemesis,” I think this question becomes even more interesting.

Before anyone misunderstands what I am saying, I am NOT saying Alya is a bad person or that Marinette and Alya were never good friends. They absolutely were. Alya has helped Marinette countless times, protected her secrets, supported her as Ladybug, and became one of the most important people in her life.

What I am questioning is whether Alya was necessarily the best possible friendship for Marinette from a character development perspective.

Because Kagami brings something completely different to Marinette.

I actually think Kagami and Marinette have one of the most interesting friendships in the show

The funny thing is that Kagami and Marinette did not start out as friends at all.

Kagami was introduced as someone who was competing with Marinette for Adrien's attention. Marinette was jealous of her, and Kagami initially viewed Marinette as someone standing between herself and Adrien.

Then we got “Ikari Gozen.”

That episode is honestly one of the biggest reasons I started thinking about this.

Marinette and Kagami are randomly paired together during the Friendship Day treasure hunt. Marinette initially hates the idea because she is afraid that helping Kagami win will bring her closer to Adrien.

So Marinette starts sabotaging the competition.

But Kagami is actually trying to become Marinette's friend.

That is what makes the whole thing work.

Kagami does not approach Marinette because she wants something from her. She genuinely wants to understand her.

And when Marinette discovers how isolated Kagami actually is, her entire perspective changes.

Kagami barely has anyone in her life outside of her mother and the small number of connections she has made. She was literally trying to figure out how to make friends.

That makes Marinette realize that she completely misunderstood her.

By the end of the episode, their relationship has genuinely changed.

That is a very different foundation from the way their relationship started.

Imagine if THAT friendship had started much earlier

This is where I think the show could have done something really interesting.

Imagine Kagami being introduced around Season 1 or Season 2 instead of Season 3.

Not necessarily as Marinette's best friend immediately.

Let them slowly become friends.

At first, Marinette could still be awkward around her because Kagami is extremely direct and serious.

Kagami could find Marinette confusing because Marinette constantly overthinks things, changes plans at the last second and gets extremely nervous around Adrien.

But instead of making Kagami primarily a romantic rival, the show could gradually make her a person Marinette trusts.

Kagami would become the friend who tells Marinette the truth.

Not necessarily what Marinette wants to hear.

What she NEEDS to hear.

And that is something Marinette desperately needs sometimes.

Kagami would challenge Marinette in a completely different way

Alya and Marinette are similar in some important ways.

They are both social.

They are both energetic.

They both love investigating things.

They both get excited about mysteries.

They both understand each other's social world very well.

Kagami is almost the opposite.

She is straightforward.

She is disciplined.

She is observant.

She does not always understand Marinette's complicated thought process, but she also does not encourage Marinette to spiral.

If Marinette started making one of her giant plans involving Adrien, Kagami could simply look at her and say:

“You are overthinking this.”

And Marinette would probably realize that she is.

That could have been a really healthy friendship dynamic.

Marinette could teach Kagami how to relax, socialize and express herself.

Kagami could teach Marinette how to be more direct, confident and emotionally honest.

They would actually help each other grow.

And this is why I don't think Chloé would work as well

I used to consider Chloé too.

And honestly, I still think there is an interesting alternate universe where Chloé and Marinette become close friends.

But canonically, it would require much more rewriting.

Chloé spends a significant amount of time bullying Marinette and other students.

Even when Chloé shows that she can care about people, she still has a lot of emotional issues and has to work through her entitlement and behavior.

So if Chloé were going to become Marinette's best friend, the show would need to start developing that friendship much earlier.

Kagami doesn't require nearly as much rewriting.

The foundation is already there.

The show already established that Kagami genuinely wanted Marinette as a friend.

The biggest missed opportunity was how little time they got together

This is probably my biggest criticism.

Marinette and Kagami have some genuinely good friendship moments, but the show often moves Kagami back toward being primarily connected to Adrien's storyline.

That is frustrating because Kagami has so much potential outside of Adrien.

Her friendship with Marinette could have been its own storyline.

It did not need to constantly revolve around romance.

In fact, one of the strongest parts of their relationship is when they are simply being friends.

Kagami and Marinette getting food together.

Talking.

Helping each other.

Learning about each other's lives.

Kagami being introduced to Marinette's other friends.

Those moments make their relationship feel much more natural.

And then Season 6 makes the Alya question more complicated

This is where I think the current story becomes interesting.

“Secret Protocol” puts Marinette and Alya's friendship under serious pressure.

The episode itself centers on Marinette organizing a surprise for Sabine, but the situation ultimately contributes to a much bigger emotional conflict involving Marinette's secrets. The following episode, “Nemesis,” continues directly from that situation.

I actually think this is an important distinction.

Alya being upset with Marinette does not automatically make Alya a terrible friend.

From Alya's perspective, she has spent years being one of Marinette's closest friends while Marinette has had enormous secrets that she couldn't tell her.

From Marinette's perspective, keeping secrets has literally been part of protecting Paris and protecting the people she loves.

So both sides have understandable emotions.

That's what makes the conflict interesting.

But it also makes me think about something else.

What kind of friend does Marinette actually need when her life becomes this complicated?

And this is where I think Kagami could fit incredibly well

Kagami understands secrets and complicated family situations.

She understands what it feels like to have important parts of your life controlled by circumstances outside your control.

She also understands what it feels like to be isolated.

Most importantly, Kagami tends to be direct.

If Marinette was hiding something from her, I don't think Kagami would spend months trying to guess what Marinette was thinking.

She would probably ask her.

And if Marinette couldn't answer, Kagami would probably be hurt, but she would understand that there are things Marinette cannot explain.

That doesn't mean Kagami would automatically accept everything.

She could still call Marinette out.

But she might approach the situation differently.

I think Kagami would be the kind of best friend who keeps Marinette grounded

This is probably the biggest reason I like the idea.

Marinette can be extremely emotional.

She overthinks.

She sometimes makes complicated plans instead of simply communicating.

She can become so focused on solving a problem that she doesn't stop to think about how other people feel.

Alya sometimes gets pulled into that world with her.

Kagami could provide a different balance.

She could say:

“Marinette, stop. What do you actually want?”

And that could force Marinette to think instead of immediately reacting.

At the same time, Marinette would help Kagami with the opposite problem.

Kagami can be very rigid.

She was raised in an extremely controlled environment.

She has difficulty expressing herself and making normal friendships.

Marinette could help her become more comfortable being herself.

So their friendship would not be one sided.

They would genuinely improve each other.

And I don't think Kagami would have to replace Alya

This is another thing I want to make clear.

I don't think the best version of this story is “remove Alya and put Kagami in her place.”

I think that would actually waste the potential.

A much better version would be Marinette having BOTH friendships.

Alya could remain the friend who understands Marinette's social life and her superhero life.

Kagami could become the friend who understands Marinette emotionally and helps keep her grounded.

That would give Marinette different types of friendships instead of making one person responsible for everything.

Alya and Kagami could even become friends themselves.

Imagine those three together.

Alya is investigating something.

Marinette is panicking.

Kagami is standing there wondering why either of them is making the situation so complicated.

That could be hilarious.

Kagami also has something Marinette doesn't always have

Kagami is very honest.

Sometimes almost brutally honest.

But I actually think Marinette needs someone like that.

A best friend shouldn't always agree with you.

A best friend should sometimes tell you when you're wrong.

Kagami could have been the person who tells Marinette:

“You are hurting yourself by avoiding the conversation.”

Or:

“You are assuming what someone thinks instead of asking them.”

Or:

“You don't need to solve everything yourself.”

Those are lessons Marinette could benefit from learning.

The irony is that canon already proved this friendship works

This is why I don't think this idea is completely random fanfiction logic.

The writers already gave us the blueprint.

Kagami and Marinette became friends.

They understood each other better.

Marinette helped Kagami open herself up.

Kagami became someone Marinette could trust.

Their friendship continued developing beyond the initial rivalry.

So the question isn't really:

“Could Marinette and Kagami be friends?”

The show already answered that.

Yes.

The more interesting question is:

“What would have happened if the writers had invested in that friendship as much as they invested in Marinette and Alya?”

Because I genuinely think it could have become one of Marinette's strongest relationships.

My ideal version

If I were rewriting the early seasons, I wouldn't remove Alya.

I would introduce Kagami earlier.

Maybe around Season 2.

Let Marinette meet her before the Adrien rivalry becomes such a major part of their relationship.

Give Kagami her own life outside of Adrien.

Give Marinette and Kagami several episodes where they simply become friends.

Then by the time “Ikari Gozen” happens, the episode would be less about Marinette discovering that Kagami wants to be her friend and more about Marinette realizing that she has been taking their friendship for granted.

Then Alya, Kagami and Marinette could develop into a trio.

But each friendship would remain different.

Alya would be Marinette's longtime best friend and superhero confidante.

Kagami would be the honest, grounding friend.

Marinette would be the emotional bridge between them.

That would actually make Marinette's social circle feel more realistic.

So after everything we've seen, I still think Kagami could have been an amazing best friend for Marinette

Not because Alya is evil.

Not because Alya and Marinette were never good friends.

And definitely not because Kagami is somehow a “better person” than Alya.

It's because Kagami brings a completely different personality and perspective to Marinette.

And honestly, I think that difference is exactly what makes their friendship interesting.

Marinette doesn't need five friends who all respond to her the same way.

She needs friends who challenge different parts of her personality.

Alya can be the person who understands her.

Kagami can be the person who grounds her.

And Marinette can be the person who brings them both together.

After “Secret Protocol,” I find the idea even more interesting because the series is showing just how difficult Marinette's secrets can make her relationships.

Maybe the answer was never that Marinette needed to replace Alya.

Maybe she just needed more than one truly deep friendship.

And honestly, I think Kagami was one of the biggest missed opportunities for that.

My fanfiction idea that I abandoned so anyone can take if they want to

I got this idea after reading a fanfic on Wattpad that genuinely pissed me off (not saying the name just to avoid troubles). This might be long. Probably way too long.

Basically, a fan of Miraculous Ladybug gets reincarnated into the series as an original character. The problem is that she absolutely despises Marinette.

Back in her original life, she considered Marinette a “Mary Sue” who constantly had everything handed to her by the narrative. She hated her so much that, after realizing where she had reincarnated, she decided that she would take everything Marinette was supposed to have.

Her role as Ladybug. Her friendships. Her popularity. Her opportunities. Even Adrien.

As a way of mocking Marinette, she even chose a similar name for herself: Lynette.

The irony is that, while Lynette constantly complains about Marinette being a Mary Sue, she actively tries to turn herself into one by using her knowledge of canon to make herself the center of the story.

Her first major move is stealing the Ladybug Miraculous.

Knowing about Master Fu’s test, Lynette deliberately positions herself so that she can save him from the incoming car before Marinette gets the chance. Because of this, Fu chooses Lynette instead, and she becomes the new holder of the Ladybug Miraculous under the superhero identity Scarlet Lady.

But Lynette doesn’t stop there.

She knows that Alya was supposed to become Marinette’s best friend, so she befriends Alya first. On their first day of school, when Chloé begins arguing with Marinette over her seat, Lynette intervenes and publicly defends Marinette. However, she isn’t doing it because she cares about her. She wants to make herself look kind and heroic in front of the class while preventing Marinette and Alya from bonding the way they did in canon.

Chloé still refuses to give Marinette her seat back, so Lynette and Alya end up taking the seats that originally belonged to Chloé and Sabrina, while Marinette is forced to sit toward the back of the classroom.

It seems like a small change, but it completely alters Marinette’s life.

Without Alya encouraging her, Marinette never develops the same confidence she had in canon. She remains shy, introverted, and insecure, rarely standing up for herself. Worse, Lynette subtly interferes whenever Marinette gets an opportunity to become closer to someone.

Then Stoneheart happens.

Because Lynette remembers the events of canon, she already knows how to defeat him. She and Chat Noir win relatively easily, but Lynette deliberately allows the akuma to escape because she knows what is supposed to happen next and wants events to remain close enough to canon for her knowledge to stay useful.

The following day, Adrien arrives at school.

Chloé, angry at Lynette for embarrassing her earlier, decides to put gum on Lynette’s seat. Adrien catches her and tries to remove it before Lynette arrives.

Unfortunately—or rather, fortunately for Lynette—she and Alya enter the classroom while Adrien is standing beside the gum.

Lynette immediately understands what happened.

She knows Adrien didn't put it there.

But she also remembers the umbrella scene from canon and realizes that this is the perfect opportunity to recreate Marinette and Adrien’s original misunderstanding, except with herself in Marinette’s place.

So she pretends to believe Adrien did it.

Marinette enters shortly afterward and witnesses the situation as well. Unlike Lynette, however, she genuinely believes Adrien was responsible. Since Adrien is Chloé’s childhood friend, Marinette assumes he must be similar to her.

Then Paris begins turning into Stonehearts.

Before transforming, Lynette deliberately acts uncertain about whether she deserves to be Ladybug. She expresses doubts in front of Tikki, knowing that Tikki will reassure her. Lynette essentially manipulates Tikki into becoming even more emotionally attached to her by pretending to struggle with insecurities she doesn't actually have.

Thanks to her knowledge of canon, Scarlet Lady and Chat Noir defeat Stoneheart again and successfully purify the akuma.

From there, most events happen similarly to canon, except Lynette continuously takes Marinette’s place whenever possible.

The biggest early example is the umbrella scene.

When Adrien approaches Lynette and explains what really happened with the gum, she accepts his apology. Unlike Marinette, however, Lynette isn't shy or overwhelmed. When Adrien gives her the umbrella, Lynette confidently kisses him on the cheek before leaving.

That moment becomes the beginning of Adrien's crush on her.

From then on, Lynette systematically takes advantage of every opportunity she remembers Marinette receiving in canon.

But there is one person Lynette is far more cautious around.

Lila Rossi.

Lynette knows exactly what Lila is capable of when she considers someone an enemy. Because of that, she decides not to publicly confront her lies.

Of course, Lynette would never admit that she's afraid of Lila.

Instead, she convinces herself that she's simply being “smart” and waiting until she has enough evidence to expose her properly.

In reality, she's terrified of becoming Lila's target.

And ironically, Lynette's decision to stay out of Lila's way creates the first genuine friendship Marinette has had in a long time.

Lynette

Personality: Manipulative, prideful, hypocritical, attention-seeking, calculating, and extremely concerned with how other people perceive her.

Lynette desperately wants to see herself as the hero of the story. She constantly rationalizes her actions, convincing herself that Marinette deserves what happens to her because she supposedly had everything handed to her in canon.

She rarely considers herself cruel. In her mind, she's simply “correcting” the story.

The biggest irony is that Lynette hated Marinette for supposedly being a Mary Sue, yet Lynette uses future knowledge to manufacture a life where everyone loves her, she always knows the correct answer, and she receives almost every important opportunity.

Lynette → Marinette

Lynette despises Marinette.

She enjoys seeing Marinette isolated because, to her, it's proof that Marinette was never special without the advantages canon gave her.

Whenever Marinette gets close to making a friend or accomplishing something important, Lynette feels compelled to interfere. Sometimes she does this consciously; other times, she has become so accustomed to competing with Marinette that she does it almost automatically.

What Lynette refuses to acknowledge is that she's obsessed with Marinette.

Even after successfully taking almost everything from her, Lynette continues watching her, comparing herself to her, and becoming irritated whenever Marinette manages to be happy without her.

Lynette → Adrien

Lynette initially sees Adrien more as a prize and a useful connection than as a genuine romantic interest.

Even though Marinette never falls in love with Adrien in this timeline because she never experiences the umbrella scene with him, Lynette still wants Adrien because he was “supposed” to belong to Marinette.

There's also the fact that he's Gabriel Agreste's son and therefore an incredibly valuable connection for someone interested in popularity, fashion, and social status.

Over time, Lynette may develop genuine feelings for him, but they're mixed with possessiveness and the satisfaction of knowing that she successfully took Marinette's original love interest.

Lynette → Alya

Lynette pretends Alya is her best friend.

She enjoys Alya's company to some extent, but the relationship is fundamentally selfish. Lynette knows Alya will eventually create the Ladyblog, so she deliberately encourages her obsession with Scarlet Lady.

Having her own best friend unknowingly run a blog dedicated to praising her superhero identity is perfect for Lynette.

Alya thinks their friendship is genuine.

Lynette sees Alya as a friend, supporter, and publicity machine all at once.

Lynette → Lila

Lynette is afraid of Lila.

She knows how manipulative and vindictive Lila can become when someone threatens her lies. Unlike Marinette, Lynette has no desire to become Lila's enemy unless she's absolutely certain she can win.

She tells herself that she's simply gathering evidence.

Deep down, she knows she's being a coward.

Marinette

Personality: Shy, introverted, kind, creative, insecure, and increasingly withdrawn.

This Marinette never receives many of the experiences that helped her become more confident in canon. She doesn't become Ladybug, Alya never becomes her best friend, and she doesn't fall in love with Adrien.

As a result, Marinette remains much closer to the insecure girl she was at the beginning of the series.

Marinette → Lynette

At first, Marinette genuinely likes Lynette.

Lynette defended her against Chloé, after all. Marinette initially believes she's kind and wishes she could become friends with her.

But gradually, Marinette begins noticing something strange.

Whenever she gets an opportunity to make friends, Lynette somehow interferes.

Whenever Marinette might receive recognition for something, Lynette somehow ends up receiving it instead.

Whenever Marinette begins getting close to someone, Lynette appears.

Eventually, Marinette starts wondering whether Lynette actually dislikes her.

But because everyone else loves Lynette, Marinette assumes she must be imagining things.

Why would someone as nice as Lynette hate me?

That thought only makes Marinette more insecure.

Marinette → Adrien

Marinette initially believes Adrien is similar to Chloé because of the gum incident.

Over time, however, she realizes that she misjudged him and that Adrien is actually a genuinely kind person.

Still, she never develops romantic feelings for him.

They're classmates who occasionally speak to each other, but little more.

Marinette → Alya

Marinette doesn't interact with Alya very often, but she initially respects her and thinks she's a good person.

Things change when Lila arrives.

Marinette quickly realizes that several of Lila's stories don't make sense. When she sees Alya publishing Lila's claims on the Ladyblog without properly checking them, Marinette becomes worried.

Knowing that Alya dreams of becoming a professional journalist, Marinette tries to warn her.

Instead of listening, Alya assumes Marinette is jealous.

She tells Marinette that she needs to stop being jealous of Lila and Lynette simply because they're popular.

That hurts Marinette far more than Alya realizes.

Marinette had genuinely been trying to help her.

The incident reinforces Marinette's belief that maybe she really is the problem.

Marinette → Lila

At first, Marinette doesn't particularly like Lila.

She can tell that Lila lies constantly, and because the only available seat is beside Marinette, the two are forced to sit together.

But something unexpected happens.

Lila actually talks to her.

Not because she's Scarlet Lady.

Not because she's popular.

Not because she wants something from Marinette's parents.

She simply talks to her.

At first, Lila tells Marinette the same exaggerated stories she tells everyone else. Marinette knows they're lies, but unlike everyone else, she doesn't confront her.

Eventually, Marinette starts noticing the person underneath them.

One day, she finally tells Lila:

“You know, you don't have to pretend to be someone you're not. I think the real you is perfectly fine the way she is.”

And Lila completely short-circuits.

Because nobody was supposed to say that.

Marinette was supposed to either believe her lies or hate her for them.

Instead, Marinette knows she's lying and still wants to know her.

From there, Marinette slowly begins developing feelings for Lila.

And, much to Lila's horror, the feelings eventually become mutual.

Yes, I ship Lilanette. Bite me.

Adrien

Personality: Mostly the same as canon.

Adrien → Lynette

Adrien believes Lynette is a genuinely good person.

After their misunderstanding with the gum and the umbrella incident afterward, he gradually develops a crush on her.

Unfortunately, he has no idea how much of their relationship has been deliberately engineered by Lynette.

Adrien → Scarlet Lady

Adrien has a massive crush on Scarlet Lady.

Unfortunately for him, Scarlet Lady treats Chat Noir similarly to how Ladybug treated him in canon: she appreciates him as a partner but repeatedly rejects his flirting and romantic advances.

The difference is that Lynette secretly enjoys the attention far more than she admits.

Adrien → Alya

Adrien mainly interacts with Alya because of Lynette and Nino.

He considers her energetic and nice.

Adrien → Marinette

Adrien thinks Marinette seems like a nice girl, although he notices that she's extremely quiet and usually alone.

He occasionally feels bad for her, but because they rarely interact, he doesn't understand just how isolated she actually feels.

Adrien → Lila

Adrien dislikes Lila's habit of lying but believes she could eventually change.

He doesn't consider her evil and hopes that, with enough patience, she'll become a better person.

Alya

Personality: Mostly the same as canon, although her flaws are more pronounced because Marinette isn't around to balance her out.

Alya → Lynette

Alya considers Lynette her best friend.

She trusts her almost completely and genuinely believes Lynette is one of the nicest people she knows.

She has absolutely no idea that Lynette is Scarlet Lady.

Alya → Adrien

Alya aggressively ships Lynette and Adrien.

Every interaction between them is evidence as far as she's concerned.

Alya → Marinette

Alya feels somewhat sorry for Marinette because she always seems lonely.

However, after seeing Marinette's apparent problems with both Lynette and Lila, Alya begins assuming that Marinette's isolation is partially self-inflicted.

She convinces herself that Marinette is simply jealous of them.

In a way, this makes Alya feel less guilty about not reaching out to her.

Alya → Lila

Alya thinks Lila is amazing.

She believes most of her stories and loves having someone with so many supposedly incredible experiences as a source for her blog.

Lila

Personality: Mostly the same as canon: manipulative, dishonest, attention-seeking, intelligent, vindictive, and surprisingly perceptive when it comes to other manipulative people.

Lila → Lynette

Lila sees through Lynette almost immediately.

It takes a liar to recognize another liar.

While everyone else sees Lynette as this confident, kind, heroic girl, Lila notices the tiny inconsistencies in her behavior.

She notices how Lynette always needs attention.

She notices how Lynette subtly redirects conversations toward herself.

She notices how strangely satisfied Lynette looks whenever Marinette fails at something.

And she definitely notices how nervous Lynette becomes whenever Lila looks at her for slightly too long.

Lila finds it hilarious.

For perhaps the first time in her life, she has met someone who might actually be more hypocritical than she is.

The difference is that Lila knows she's a liar.

Lynette genuinely believes she's the good guy.

Lila → Adrien

Lila thinks Adrien is ridiculously naive.

She finds it almost painful that he can recognize that she lies but somehow fails to notice Lynette manipulating everyone directly in front of him.

She also finds his belief that everyone can become better incredibly childish.

Lila → Alya

Lila genuinely cannot believe someone this easy to manipulate wants to become a journalist.

Alya barely verifies anything she tells her.

Sometimes Lila is tempted to make her stories increasingly ridiculous just to discover where Alya's limit actually is.

She hasn't found it yet.

Lila → Marinette

Initially, Marinette is just convenient.

There are no other seats available, so Lila sits beside her.

Lila quickly realizes that Marinette doesn't believe most of her stories, but she doesn't consider her dangerous. Marinette has no proof, barely any friends, and none of the confidence necessary to publicly challenge her.

So Lila continues lying to her anyway.

At first, it's almost entertaining.

Then Marinette starts asking questions.

Not questions designed to expose her.

Questions about her.

What music does she actually like?

What does she do when she's at home?

What foods does she enjoy?

What does she want to do when she's older?

Lila isn't used to that.

She's used to people being interested in Lila Rossi, the girl who knows celebrities and travels around the world.

Marinette seems interested in Lila Rossi even when she knows half of those stories aren't true.

Then Marinette says the one thing Lila wasn't prepared to hear:

“You know, you don't have to pretend to be someone you're not. I think the real you is perfectly fine the way she is.”

And suddenly Lila has a problem.

Because she was supposed to manipulate Marinette.

She was supposed to use the lonely girl sitting beside her as another easy source of attention.

She was absolutely not supposed to develop a crush on her.

Yet somehow, while Lynette spends the entire story desperately trying to steal Marinette's “perfect life,” Lila ends up becoming one of the first people to genuinely care about the Marinette that Lynette left behind.
