To keep a paid for Camry? Or used Model 3?

Good afternoon,

I am new to the Tesla world and had a question.

I currently drive 80-90 miles round trip for work 5 days a week and the gas is getting expensive. I’ll spend anywhere from $200-$300/mo just to go to work.

I currently have a paid for 2018 Camry with 120k miles. Just got new tires and brakes, water pump replaced as well, so should be good to go apart from oil changes which I do every other month with my tire rotations at a shop for around $100.

I found a 2018 M3 long range RWD with 65k miles with lifetime FSD included for $20k. I could maybe get 12k for my car so is it worth trading up the $8k for the gas savings and lower miles/maintenance car of the same year?

The FSD would be helpful as an hour drive one way for work is taxing on me mentally over time.

Charging at home would cost $.13c/kWh where I live no matter what time of day. No off peak rate.

Is there anything else I’m not thinking of with this potential purchase? Any insights appreciated and thank you for the help!

Does anyone have a VIN assigned for a premium model 3 in mainland Europe ?

Hi!

Reading online forums and looking at data in the Boring Order Tracker app, there seem to be a huge backlog piling up for premium (RWD and AWD) orders in mainland Europe, going all the way back to at least mai. So three months of orders, stuck.
On my own order for instance, the remaining wait time now in August is longer than when I ordered in May by a whole month !

Has anyone gotten a VIN in the last three months for such order ?

I know of some in Germany from late July for delivery in Hanau Holzpark, might have been assigned manually by the delivery center itself.

Did any one manage to get any explanation from their delivery advisor ?

Tesla model 3 not turning on

So today we had some horrible rain I had to drive through to get home. The front of my neighborhood was flooded and I went through the shallowest part I could. I made it up my driveway and parked my car and went inside. My car never gave any warnings or issues between the front of my neighborhood and parking (maybe 2 minutes). 3hr later my dad goes to plug it in and it won’t open or turn on. It’s not responding to the app or the key card.
This model is a 2021 I just bought it used in April when my Prius engine died.
It’s very low so I get very worried about driving it in the rain but I have no choice as I live in Florida.
What could’ve happened
Has anyone had or heard of this happening
Any advice
My dad is going to try to fix it but I thought I might as well ask the masses.

2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance – HW3 replacement / Toolbox 3 help needed

2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance – HW3 replacement / Toolbox 3 help needed

Hello everyone,

I own a 2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance (Fremont, LHD) with FSD Computer 3 / HW3.

I have been experiencing intermittent problems with the car:

  • cameras sometimes unavailable
  • GPS sometimes incorrect/unavailable
  • Autopilot unavailable
  • the car computer seems to reboot repeatedly
  • Service Mode shows repeated APS_w169_TurboA_SCS_LKUP errors
  • sometimes the infotainment screen also goes completely black, although the vehicle itself still drives normally.

Tesla has diagnosed the HW3 Car Computer as needing replacement.

I live in French Guiana, where there is no Tesla Service Center. Because of the distance, I am considering purchasing the correct HW3 directly from Tesla and having an independent technician install it.

My main question is:

Has anyone here replaced a HW3 Car Computer themselves using Tesla Toolbox 3?

I would especially like to know:

  1. Can the new HW3 be associated with the vehicle using Toolbox 3?
  2. Can the VIN/configuration be transferred without going to a Tesla Service Center?
  3. What level of Toolbox authorization is required?
  4. Has anyone successfully completed the entire replacement through an independent repair shop?
  5. Are there any specific procedures or precautions I should know before ordering the replacement HW3?

Any experience, documentation, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Tesla Model 3 UK delivery – reg assigned but still no VIN?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with a UK Model 3 order.

I ordered a Model 3 RWD on 8 June and my current estimated delivery window is 9–21 September.
A 76 registration number was assigned on 4 August, but I still haven’t had a VIN appear in the Tesla app. The delivery window is still showing and hasn’t moved, but it feels like things have gone a bit quiet since the registration appeared.

For anyone who’s recently taken delivery in the UK:

Did your registration appear before your VIN?
Roughly how long was it between getting the reg and the VIN showing?
How far ahead of collection did your VIN/delivery appointment appear?
I’m assuming everything is still on track, but it’d be good to hear other people’s recent timelines, especially for September deliveries.
Thanks!

New to me model 3.

Purchased a used 2023 model3 rwd with 23k miles. I might get 150 miles a charge. Only a $3 savings vs gas seems very low? Whats a reasonable expectation for miles per charge? Says battery is healthy.

Suspension Upgrade

I have just picked up a Tesla Model 3 (72 plate) with 30k on the plate.

The car is lovely, but coming from a BMW 7 Series, the ride is choppy. I appreciate I am not likely to get 7 Series air suspension quality, but will want to upgrade the suspension when the warranty expires to get a slightly smoother ride.

I spoke to a garage this morning and they will fit any suspension I want, but were reluctant to recommend one.

I have heard the Koni Special Active suspension is good, but also may just go for the full highland suspension.

Are there any others I should consider? I am not bothered about a racing approach, I drive a lot of motorway miles, so just want a smoother cruise.

Model 3 Lease Terms Changed After Confirmed Approval

I’m trying to understand how Tesla handles lease approvals when delivery extends beyond the 30-day rate window but remains within the stated 60-day approval period.

I applied to lease a 2026 Model 3 in Texas on July 8. My lease was approved through USB Leasing LT / U.S. Bank with the following terms:

  • 36 months / 10,000 miles per year
  • Vehicle price: $38,630
  • $486.91/month
  • $1,365.91 due at delivery
  • $0 cash down

This was not the initial configurator estimate. The Tesla app specifically displayed “Approved Terms.” I confirmed the offer, and the financing task subsequently displayed “Complete — Your lease offer has been confirmed.”

The approval screen also contained two separate statements:

“Rates are subject to change 30 days from the application date.”

“Your approved lease terms are valid up to 60 days from the application date.”

More than 30 days later, while still within that 60-day period, the lease terms changed.

The new offer is still through USB Leasing LT, for the same $38,630 vehicle, 36-month term and 10,000-mile allowance, but now shows:

  • $305.58/month
  • $6,500 cash down
  • $7,684.58 due at delivery
  • 0.0001200 money factor

I did not request the additional down payment or a lower monthly payment.

My scheduled delivery is August 28, which is 51 days after the original July 8 application.

I’m curious whether anyone here has seen this happen specifically with a Tesla lease after crossing the 30-day rate window while still within the 60-day approval window.

In particular, does the 30-day language allow the entire lease structure to be recalculated, including a lender-required capitalized-cost reduction, while the underlying lease approval remains valid for 60 days?

I’m also interested in whether anyone has seen U.S. Bank/Tesla later restore the originally confirmed structure after something similar occurred.

Which Tesla should I get?

Hi! I am about to start a new job that requires commute 50 miles per day on congested highway. The rider is only me and I am considering a Tesla 3. I test drove it and found self driving would help reduce a lot of driving stress since I will be commuting everyday.

Question is would an older model prior 2024 be sufficient? Or should I get a new 2026 Tesla 3? pre-owned newer models after 2024 is pretty much the same as a new car. THANK YOU!!!

How can early model 3 highlands get V2L (aka. run your fridge off your car) ??

So silly that Model y's and some newer model 3's can do this. I've got a 2025 model 3.. it would come in really handy to be able to run things off of the battery and not have to use a generator, not to mention much cheaper.

Tesla M3 ambient lights

Does Teala Model 3 Standard RWD (base model) has ambient lights? I don't mean the light bar on the dashboard, but footwell and door pocket ambient lighting. The confurator says this is included in all trims, but I haven't seen any video showing this.

Thinking about upgrading my 2024 Model 3 to the new Premium. I’m confused

I have a April 2024 Model 3, ~24k miles. Currently leasing it for $353.80/mo.

Santander buyout right now is $27,730.
I’m considering the new Model 3 Premium mainly for the range. My current car gets ~200 miles real-world for me, while the new one is rated at 363 miles.

My everyday commute is 50 miles and I’m relying on a nearby supercharger and charge it twice a week after 11pm (since it’s cheaper). So tempted to buy the new model 3 because of the range bump.

Trying to make this apples-to-apples, I’d put $7,500 down on either option:
Option 1: Buy current 2024
$27,730 buyout
$7,500 down
~$20,230 financed
~6% used-car APR assumption
36 months
~$616/mo
Paid off after 3 years

Option 2: New Model 3 Premium
~$46.5k total based on my Tesla quote
$7,500 down
~$39k financed
1.99% APR
72 months
~$575/mo
Brand new + 363-mile range

So weirdly, the new car has a lower monthly payment, but I’d obviously be financing ~$19k more and still have a loan after 3 years.

So basically I’m paying roughly $15k more over 6 years for the new car, extra range and new warranty

What would you guys do?
Keep the 2024 and save the money, or take the ~$575 payment and upgrade for the range?

Get a 2023 Model 3 or wait for the 2024 to drop?

My ideal budget is in the high 20s, potentially low 30s. This would be my first car and i love them a lot and i want one already, i just want to make the best choice but also not breaking the bank. The model 3s from 2023 are very appealing but the 2024s and up are my favorite but seem to be a little too high, should i act now or wait until nov/december when the 2027s drop and the 2024s go lower? Doesnt seen like theres any good used car offers rn on tesla’s site
