I made a Pokemon inspired game but you play as the Pokemon

As the title says, I made a Roblox game called “Holomon” that's like Pokemon except the gameplay is you play as the Pokemon in real-time combat. You still have 4 moves and the mons have abilities (passives) and they can level up and evolve. The diference being this game is called "Holomon" and the gameplay is suppose to be engaging, fun, and colorful so everyone can have fun.

Pokemon is obviously fun but sometimes It can feel a bit tedious with turn-based combat. That's why It's thrilling to get into the arena and battle like you're actually in the game. Holomon is a project I've had in mind for about a year and I've barely started to implement it so I can share with others.

I have other things in the game like lore, trainers, a world boss, and I'm trying to implement a housing system so trainers can take a break from the fights and go decorate their homes and chill with their mons. The most important part I need to focus on is combat, I'm going to implement a lot of signature moves for the mons so they all feel unique and incentives players to play as them even if they're not that good.

Oh and all these mons are 100% original in the sense that these all derrive from any doodles / drawings me or my younger relatives and I have come up with when we were making a card game IRL. So it makes them pretty happy to see their drawings come to life haha.

This is just a snippet, let me know what you guys think honestly and I'll take any criticism. If you're interested in this project shoot me a DM.

What makes you keep a monster when a stronger replacement comes along?

I'm interested in the point where a monster stops being a slot on the team and becomes one you don't want to replace. Is it a close win, time spent raising it, a personality quirk, or just a design you love?

I'd like care outside battles to matter here too. A creature remembering a favourite food or behaving differently around its trainer could give two of the same species a different feel, without needing different stats. But I wouldn't want keeping a favourite to mean fighting the game's balance the whole way.

What has made you stick with a particular monster, and did the game let you keep it useful?

I released my creature-taming RPG demo — Eternal Eclipse

The first public demo for Eternal Eclipse is out.

It's a 2D top-down dark fantasy RPG where your creatures aren't just used for battles. You actually build a whole gameplay loop around them.

🐾 Catch creatures in dungeons
⚔️ Battle with your team
👑 Defeat dungeon bosses
🌱 Farm
🔨 Craft
🥚 Breed creatures at the barn
🐾 Keep your extra creatures in the Field System

The first dungeon is playable in the demo, including creature encounters, catching, battling, and the dungeon boss.

The game is inspired by Pokémon, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, and Stardew Valley while being built around an original world and creature roster.

The demo is free:

We're trying to grow the game from this first demo toward a full Steam release, so feedback from monster-taming fans would be extremely useful.
