I’ve read a lot of posts about using US tools in Ireland or UK and none have mentioned something I thought of that might make me an eejit for suggesting but here goes. I have a small workshop in my US house I’d like to take to Ireland (just for my hobby/personal use) so wattage needs are modest. At most I use the radial arm saw and a vacuum at the same time. I have a Predator 3200/4000 watt gasoline powered generator. I haven’t tried it but assuming the generator is sufficient to power the tools what about replacing the gas engine with a 230v 50 cycle motor to spin the generator? Aside from shaft size, RPM, mounting plate bolt pattern, and all those niggling mechanical matchup issues is there a reason this wouldn’t work? Has anyone tried it? When I need 120v 60 cycle I switch the 230 power on and plug in my 120v tools. What could possibly go wrong?

I’m moving from the North West of England to Ireland for 12 months for work, and I’m considering bringing my 2010 Nissan Micra with me. I’m a bit confused about the insurance and registration rules, so I’d really appreciate any advice. Please feel free to point me towards an existing post if this has already been covered.

The car is UK-registered, and I will still have my UK address while I’m in Ireland. My understanding is that because I’ll only be there for around a year, I may not need to register the car on Irish plates, but I’m unclear on what this means for insurance.

My current UK insurer says I have comprehensive cover in EU countries, but only for 90 days. After that, the cover reduces to the minimum required by law. Does anyone know if it’s possible to insure a UK-registered car with an Irish insurer while living in Ireland? If so, what kind of costs should I expect?

The main reasons I’m considering taking the car are:

• to make moving my belongings easier, and
• to have the freedom to explore Ireland during my year there.

I don’t expect to drive much around Dublin itself, and I realise that looking for accommodation with parking could make an already difficult rental market even more challenging. Would it be more sensible to ship my belongings and leave the car in the UK?

For context, I’m 29, have 6 years of no-claims bonus, and the car is small and economical, so I’m hoping it wouldn’t be too expensive to run.

Hi there. Currently in the process of sending my first batch of cargo through air freight for which I have received a stamped copy of the Airway bill from revenue at DUB airport. However I’m not sure how to proceed with additional cargo shipments? Do I have to redo the entire form (C&E 1076) again or is a item inventory list enough for the next shipment? Anyone have any experience/suggestions?

I’m 25F black from California I feel like that’s relevant since I assume there isn't a big black population? I am planning to go back to school and will be eligible for a WHV. That's obviously not the only reason I'm going back lol.

I’m at my wits in with how my life is here. I’m not stupid and think if I move to another county life will be perfect and all my problems will be solved but I just can’t keep living like this I need a change. I've always wanted to live in another country and this is one of the "easier" ways.

Basically I want to know if I packed up and did this for a year would it be impossible for me to get work there? Like how hard is it to get a job there? Would I be able to become a waitress or something pretty easily? And I know you guys have a housing problem over there. Would it just be impossible to even find a room to rent or a roommate to share an apartment with? Is that only in the bigger cities like Dublin or Cork?

I know I’d only be eligible for low level jobs will it be hard to live on salaries for that type of work? Also on average does it take long to find work? How much would I need to save before I leave?

Am I being too unrealistic and shouldn’t even bother I feel like I am.

Hi, I can't find any non-conflicting information. I moved to Ireland last week, EU citizen. Have a job offer but haven't started work yet. Is an email with the offer enough? I asked my boss for a letter, but wondering if it has to be an original on paper or can she scan it and send it to me?

The same goes for a bank statement, do I have to print it or is the digital e-statement enough?

Anyone who had a similar situation and is willing to tell me how it was, I will be very grateful! My appointment is in 3 days and I'm stressed...
