Looking for black owned and/or local businesses to support

I am a white local of muskegon. I was born here and this is my home town forever. I have been noticing the signs of Gentrification here and around like to battle that. Wealthy non-residents buy up our housing and our businesses while barely (if at all) even stepping foot here. Large corporations use our cheap labor to extract money from us and from wealthy visitors coming to see our beautiful beaches and parks, I can go on.

That being said, I don't have much money to spend but I would like some of the staples, consumables, and even just fun products I do buy to be from local business from the people that are actually from here. Preferably, I would like to support black owned business but also non-black locals as well just not the CEO'S from out of town.

Please leave your suggestions or your business in the comments below, sorry for the rant but at my job I witness these kinds of things daily and it's getting to me. I'd rather act in a more positive way but supporting eachother

Native wildflowers?

Hi! I’m not from the area but I’m doing some research on local wildflowers around Muskegon county, specifically north Muskegon near the state park and Twin Lakes/Holton. My father grew up in the area, and recently had passed away. I’m currently making painting to memorialize his life, and have done some basic research but would love some community insight as well. ❤️

Thank you so much!

Muskegon Conservation District fund raising for new sign

We have a bit of an odd- but important- need at the Muskegon Conservation District… We need a new roadside sign.

For years, our entrance has been very easy to miss. Visitors, partners, and even staff often drive right past us or aren’t sure they’re in the right place. For an organization that works hard to connect people to conservation, that’s a problem.

It might seem simple, but this sign is a long-term investment in how we serve the community. We’re working to raise funds to make it happen—and this is where you can help.

If you’ve attended a workshop, bought seedlings, volunteered, or just care about protecting our natural resources, please consider making a small donation toward this project.

Every contribution—no matter the size—gets us one step closer to our goal of $30,000. We already have about half of the money saved up thanks to the Community Foundation for Muskegon County Endowment Fund, but we could use your help to get us across the finish line.

Thank you for helping us create a stronger, more visible presence for conservation in Muskegon County.

Where to bring bikes for tires

I have a few bikes with flat tires that I'd like to get operational. I'm pretty sure tires are the only problem but they maybe could use some sort of tune-up. What are your favorite bike shops? Or is there someone you know who does this out of their garage? When I was a kid we brought bikes in need of attention to "the bike guy." No shop, just a guy with a serious hobby. Anyone like that around?

Also I know I could Google it and figure out how to fix it but I am truly maxed out on projects.

Thanks for any leads

Is it hard to meet people/make friends (35f professional)?

Hi! Planning to move back to the west side of the state but have never lived in Muskegon. I like hiking, pickleball, walking my dogs, and crafting.

For any professionals my age(ish), how has meeting people/making friends been for you? Any better/worse than other places you’ve lived?

Is it possible my girlfriend is having an affair at work?

My girlfriend, works in an upper-level position at Howmet in Muskegon. Something weird came up recently between us, and I had an intrusive thought that she could be cheating on me. It definitely isn’t happening outside of work. I looked at Howmet on Google maps and realized how easy it would be for her to have an affair with one of her coworkers. She’s able to leave for lunch breaks and through out the day and there’s parks and trees everywhere. I checked her timeline and sometimes it shows her being near a park on her lunch break. She says she never goes to the parks on her break though. She usually goes out with coworkers for lunch. Are Google Maps just really inaccurate? Does car s3x actually happen frequently at Howmet? Has anyone heard of that happening there? Edit: I don’t actually think she’s cheating on me. It’s more of a passing thought. Like a what-if?. I’m not tracking her. I just looked at her google maps timeline. She doesn’t care if I look at her phone. But sometimes the data will either be blocked out for hours after it showed her leaving, or it’ll pin her being in random parks on her lunch break - but doesn’t mention it to me- and sometimes her timeline for the whole day is wiped.

I just recently looked at it cuz something made me SUS at home. I mean the location is probably fuzzy around there, right? But sometimes it’ll say she left work early and was driving for four hours straight and then comes home late.

Edit: the main suspicion was from google maps inaccuracies, but I suppose I shouldn’t rely on reliable google maps location data.

Local HVAC

In search of a local HVAC company that offers annual maintenance contracts. We previously lived on the East coast where we used a great company that we trusted.

Typical contract would include: a couple of preventive tune-up visits per year (one for heating, one for cooling), inspection of all the equipment, filter checks, refrigerant level check, etc. We also have a full-house humidifier so preventive maintenance (changing filter pad, etc) on that at the same time.

We aren't familiar with HVAC companies in Muskegon so I'm hoping to get some recommendations from folks who have this type of contract and are happy with the service they receive.

Wedding Reception

Hi everyone!

I am trying to plan a wedding reception for later this year and I would love some recommendations of places to look into.

This reception would be for approximately 115 guests, we would like to have food, alcohol, dance floor, and music.

We are not super sure how much something like this usually costs so, any recommendations or advice are welcome.

TYIA!

Hardings NM

Hey party people, do we know what is going in the parking lot of Hardings of North Muskegon? Looks like they have it zoned out like the Jimmy John’s by the Meijer.

Thanks folks.

Open water swim

I will be in Muskegon the week of July 4th and am trying to get some open water swim practice before a couple triathlons. I don’t have a lot of open water experience so I would prefer to be with a group/ be part of an organized swim. Any recommendations?
