The Dire Grove Remaster is Real After 11 Years

Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove (2009) has been incompatible with Windows 10 and 11 since Windows 10's release in 2015. In the years since, there have been countless forums and comments about how Dire Grove hasn't worked, and countless demands for BFG to update and/or remaster the game to run on modern PCs. For years, the solution has been to either buy a non-cheap older Windows laptop, or install a Virtual Machine, which invited its own painful issues.

By September 7, 2026, it took 11 years for a fan (u/Aromatic-Fail7504) to release a click-and-drag patch to let the game run on Windows 10 and 11.

Just a few weeks later (now), on October 4, 2026, BFG teased what pretty much could only be a remaster of this game, before officially revealing it today on their website and social media, October 6, 2026.

Do note that it is genuinely likely that BFG has actually been working on this remaster in the previous months and just happened to announce and release it after the fan-patch: BFG did made a post (second screenshot) dating to March 2026 within their Facebook fan group Big Fish Fans about updating their older games.

Please also note that it is documented that the other very recent remaster of Mystery Case Files: Fate's Carnival (2013) just last month offered unique bugs not seen in the original version. It is possible that this remaster of Dire Grove will not be as buggy, although based on the attached promotional screenshots, the fonts seemed to have been changed (although this could be from a beta or something). The second screenshot shows the original HUD at the top, and the remaster's promotional screenshot's HUD at the bottom.

If the remaster makes other significant changes besides improving compatibility and one wants to prefer the original, the fan patch will always still work to keep playing the original.
