Best way for a married couple to meet people our age around Wilkes Barre?

Hey all,

My wife(34F) and I(29M) recently relocated to the area from South Carolina and are struggling to find ways/ opportunities to meet people our age. We've been to a couple of events in the area and checked out the trails at ricketts, as well as the tubbs, but making friends is proving to be kinda difficult.

She's from the area originally and definitely loves being back here. While I do think it's beautiful up here -- I'm finding it much harder to have a sense of place up here, and I think finding some kind of community up here would help that a ton.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Old Forge first time

Tried two because they were across the street from each other. It’s definitely a different taste and style than I’m used to. Very unique from every other pizza style I’ve had. It reminds me of Ellios but is much better. The crust is more French bread like than “crust” and the cheeses were different but blended well together. To me, the sauce at arcano was more textured and better but the cheese combo at revellos was better. A nice try, wouldn’t go back again unless I missed a must have place that’s different

Third Place Suggestions

Hello Fellow NEPA-ers

I am looking for a place to patronize for several hours at a time with good vibes, good wifi and potentially good coffee or snacks.

I work fully remote and need to get time out of the house. I am in the Berwick area. I am willing to travel from Danville to Pittston. I wouldn't go as far as Scranton.

Drop your favorite spots, coffee shops, etc!

Day Trip or Weekend Trip Ideas?

Wanted to maybe get a cabin by some water for the end of August. Kind of hard to find something appealing for the budget. Everything was podunk or $600/night and would have to take more nights than I can be out.

Maybe just a day trip to see something cool?

Maybe something in Philly? Maybe venture out of PA?

Looking for suggestions.

I'm in the Harrisburg area. Thank you.

Star trails over the Delaware, Equinunk.

Not a NEPA resident, but I’ve spent a lot of time visiting since the 70’s up till now. Usually solo motorcycle trips.
Took my adult children camping on the Delaware this weekend to show them how beautiful it is.

Left my camera in the river overnight Friday to get this video.

Saturday night I was able to photograph a space x rocket, the Milky Way and the northern lights. I don’t think I’ll ever have a better weekend as a photographer or a dad.

I’ll make another post to show the photos.
Hope you all enjoy this

Calling all local retrocomputing fans and geeks!

Hey everyone!

If you're in or near Northeastern PA and have an interest in retrocomputing, I've set up the NEPA Retrocomputing Group to connect local enthusiasts.

Anyone is welcome if they're interested in restoring hardware, writing code, playing games, or simply feeling nostalgic about older technology.

We meet once a month to have a coffee, talk over our projects, display our equipment, and establish a local community. Our next meetup is:

  • Where: JivaJava Cafe (3427 PA-611, Bartonsville, PA)
  • When: Saturday, August 29th at 1:00 PM

If interested visit our website and sign up for our mailing list!

Hope to see a few of you there! 😄

Scenic Places to Park with a View?

My boyfriend and I are looking for a place where we can back in (we have a Chevy Colorado “camper) and use our little cook stove to grill up some food and just sit around on the bed of the truck for a few hours and have a nice view! Work has been tough and we just wanted an excuse to drive around NEPA and be outside. Maybe something preferably near a lake or stream?

We would be coming from the Philly suburb area and are willing to drive 1.5-2 hours for anything :)

Need some input about relocating to Scranton or Wilkes-Barre area

Edit: i really appreciate everyone giving their honest opinions! It seems like both Scranton and State College are great areas, which gives me a sense of relief, lol. Im going to look into everyone's recommendations as I do more research - thank you all!

Hi all! My family and I are looking to move within the next few months from the Philadelphia region. I am a nurse and have the opportunity to transfer to Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, State College, or Chambersburg, so naturally I have been focusing my home search in these areas. Im hoping to be within 45 minutes of these cities. We are looking for a 2 bed/2 bath on 5+ acres for up to 275k. Over the past few weeks of searching, I've found some good homes for up to $300k.

A little about us: in our early 30s, interracial, LGBTQ, progressive. Being in nature is VERY important us, as is the ability to homestead - we arent doing animals, but we are looking to set up a large garden/ food forest, sell at market, and install some off-grid features in the nearby future- solar, rain water catchment, etc. (Originally we were planinng to move down south bc it has many of these things, but after months of research, it doesnt seem like the best fit for us culturally. Its also more convenient for us to stay in PA for my job and our family)

We are gonna make time to actually visit each of these regions to get a better feel, but i wanted some opinions from people who actually live here - based on this criteria, any towns you recommend looking into? Avoiding altogether? I appreciate any insight!!

(Note: I wanted to post this in the r/Pennsylvania community, but for some reason my account isn't "reputable enough" yet, so posting here instead. Will also post in r/centralpa)

Geisinger Salary: Wellness Associate

I was wondering if anyone has an idea how much the Wellness Associate II position pays from Geisinger & if anyone who has had that job can tell me what you thought of it? It does require a bachelors degree so I’m hoping it’s at least mid 20s. Anyone have any insight? Thanks!

Window tint in NEPA?

I’m looking to get ceramic tint on my Prius Prime. I’m game to DIY it but would certainly consider a shop.

Has anyone used a DIY supplier and was happy with the quality? There are tons of options online and I’d like to make an informed choice.

Are there any shops you’d recommend? I’d like quality work at a reasonable price, and would need it to be installed in a single day. Any shop would preferably be in the WB-Hazleton area, but would stretch to include Scranton to Stroudsburg.

Thank you for the recommendations!

One of the best spots for pizza in NEPA is a gas station

The cuts and trays of pizza at Scranton’s Green Ridge News Mini Mart and Grill are as good as anything you’ll find in Old Forge.

Toddler entertainment

I’m a late in life Mamma looking for community connection in NEPA. I brought my youngest to Rohrbach’s in Catawissa last Friday for Toddler time and she was all smiles. Mamma got to shop for some fresh eats and baby girl was hunkered out by naptime. We met some wonderful families there and plan to go back again! Parents, what are your Summer and Fall go-to’s for your littles? I want all the suggestions I can get!

Hot Dog World Champion Joey ‘Jaws’ Chestnut was at the RailRiders game tonight

Joey Chestnut appeared at PNC Field for tonight’s RailRiders game. He ate 100 (I think it was 100, couldn’t hear too well) pierogis in 4 minutes 26 seconds. Super nice guy, took pictures with everyone who wanted one.

An older gentleman next to me watching said, “I’ve been coming to games here since 1988 and this is the coolest thing they have ever done here.”

Anti-insider trading petitions get over 40k signatures, issue moves to November ballot

WILKES - BARRE, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Insider trading has become a hot topic in NEPA, and a petition has been making the rounds the last couple months to ban Luzerne and Lackawanna County officials from doing it. They needed a combined 20,000 signatures across both counties. They got over 40,000.

Their pitch is simple: elected officials shouldn’t be using the knowledge they learn from their office for personal profit.

Reputable Buy Here, Pay Here Car Dealers in the area?

Before I get a lecture, I know this isn't ideal. But I my credit isn't the best. I am working on it but I am going to need a car well before I fix my credit enough to go the traditional route. Does a reputable buy here, pay here place exist in our area? Please share your experiences whether good or bad if you've bought a car in this fashion.
