Need guidance for NID PG 27

Hi folks, I am planning for an NIDPG 27, as you must have read from the title.

I don't come from a formal design background hence I am very nervous about it and I thought that I could use some guidance from the coaching institutions.

Although I'm not sure about it, I'm not sure which coaching institution I should go with. Since I'm a bit tight on time because it's August already, I just wanted a few inputs from people who have already been there.

Which coaching institute would you recommend? Or just any advice that you wanna pour in, would be really useful.

Thanks. :)

12th Results

So currently iam studying in grade 12 Cambridge board. I got to know that NID requires 12th results before July 15th. However my results will come mid August. So does NID accept predicted scores? If no is there a work around.

Similarly for IIT design programs are 5 subjects necessary? is there a workaround for that also?

Thanks

Mentorship yes or no?

Should i get mentorship to prep for nid/nift/uceed?

I feel like there's enough stuff online, but everyone's suggesting that mentorship would help.

And i have like 4.5 full months to prepare from almost scratch, i have figured out the syllabus and exam format and stuff to most extent, im even confident that i might clear nift easily, but nid and uceed idk

im considering getting into nid or nift, but yeah NID seems almost impossible at this stage, also even if i somehow clear prelims, what about mains later...?

Please help a guy out!

A little background first:

Hi guys, I'm currently 17 and I'll be graduating from high school next year. After 10th, I had no idea which stream to choose or anything like that, but I had this feeling inside me that I should choose Engineering Graphics, Commerce, or something along those lines. But there was quite a bit of pressure from my family.

So I was sort of forced to take the rat-factory Computer Science path(also started online jee coaching because I really had no aim and it was what was the default way everyone was going dropped jee coaching after 11th). 11th was really bad. I'm in 12th now and things have started getting a little better, but I still have some hope.

I was researching what courses I could take and what options I had, and I stumbled upon design school entrance exams, basically DAT or UCEED. I realised that I'd probably be much happier doing this kind of work in the future, like visual communication and similar fields(I just felt it was the right thing for me I was trying to find all along). Also, my family can't afford extremely expensive fees.

The problem is that I literally just stumbled upon this, and I don't think I can crack these exams without any preparation as its august right now and there is absolutley no way I can go for this year's, especially with the limited time I have right now while also having to focus on my boards.

So I wanted to ask if taking a drop year and going for a good worth the money offline coaching would be a wise decision. I'm scared that I'll regret it later. At the same time, I feel like I'm the kind of guy who could actually crack it if I were given enough time, and Ialso regret it even more that I could've have taken an easier, more manageable stream that would've given me enough time to prepare.

Please help a young guy out.

TOPICS FOR NID/NIFT CAT

There are many people who still don't know where to start from for the drawing portion of nift/nid so here y'all go. This list is also something I'm myself preparing from so pls try and go thru it and try to do it in the same manner as listed. I know it's a lot but it's good if you practice more, if you find any topic that's not relevant or if someone wants to add into it then pls go ahead it'll be of great help for the others too.

Ps: Do line practice daily and try to maintain a visual library too. Try to do line practice on a big newspaper it's really helpful for line control and in the long run, to make big paintings/drawings too. Also try to use big A5 sheets for any drawing purpose because when u enter uni, nift/nid assignments do not work on A4.

  1. Linework

  2. 2d, 3d Shapes & forms

  3. Object drawing

  15. Sustainable & Inclusive Design: Redesigning everyday packaging to eliminate plastic waste, or modifying public spaces for differently-abled individuals.

  16. User Interface (UI) Paper Mockups: Designing the physical layout or paper screen flow for a smart vending machine, an ATM, or a public kiosk.

  17. Material Textures: Beyond drawing textures, you must visually render complex material combinations like matte plastic meeting brushed aluminum, or wet mud on a vehicle tyre. Silhouettes too.

  18. Grid Deformation & Warping: Drawing a scene as if viewed through a drop of water, a glass bottle, or reflected on a shiny spoon.

  19. Oblique & Isometric Projection: Drawing objects from precise technical angles without using standard vanishing points.

  20. Unconventional Perspectives: Master Ant's-eye view (worm's eye) and Bird's-eye view specifically for crowded Indian contexts (e.g., a railway platform, a vegetable market).

  21. Scale Transformation: Drawing an insect's view of a room, or imagining a human shrunk to the size of a tea cutting glass.
