Location Recommendations: 2 Week Stay

Firstly— thank you to all replies in advance. I live in a vacation/resort town so it isn’t lost on me that I’m asking for local’s tips and recommendations. I’ll return the favor if you’re ever headed west to ski in Utah. 😊

Two of us will be staying on the island for 2 weeks (end of August, into September). A friend from Boston will join for a few days one of the weeks. My question is does it make sense to stay in two or more different areas given the length of the trip? Stay in town one week and then elsewhere the second?

Here’s a quick rundown of us:

  1. No car. Biking and walking is great.
  2. Would love to be on the water? Close to the water? See the water? From at least one of the areas in which we stay.
  3. Good food and real humans > cool guy parties

The trip is somewhat of a celebration of triumph and healing from illness and loss. Your thoughts/recommendations are very appreciated…. More than you’ll ever know. ❤️

Edit: totally open to any types of lodging.

1-Day Visit with 3 kids (11,15,17)

Hello - obvious tourist with some questions about a 1-day visit with an 11, 15, and 17 year old in mid-July.

We're staying close to Hyannis so not worried about getting a ferry. My kids tend to like beaches so I'm looking at:

  • Grab early ferry
  • Rent bikes
  • Check out Brant Point
  • Go to Jetties and hang out/swim/eat
  • Mid afternoon head back, return bikes, and go to Whaling Museum, maybe shop
  • Get some food or ice cream for the ferry and head back

Sound doable? I'm super-paranoid about missing the last ferry out. I'd like to explore more, but I'd probably be constantly checking my watch about the last departure.

I appreciate any feedback.

Nantucket solo trip

Hello!

I (31F) will be doing a solo trip to Nantucket from the 9-14th of July! I’ll be staying closer to the airport, but I was wondering if there were any other solo travellers or islanders that would be interested in meeting up for a beach day or a drink at Ciscos!

Also, is the island solo trip friendly? I’ll be renting a bike to get around the island or taking the wave.

If you have any recommendations for a solo traveller let me know!

What’s up with Dairy Boy?

Been hearing lots of negativity about the company and I know literally nothing about them (had to google to even see it was a clothing brand).

Why are they so unwelcome on the island?

Is Cru overrated?

Managed to get a lunch reservation at Cru in August. I was pretty surprised how “competitive” it was. I am trying to plan a nice trip for 4 adults so I have been looking into things far in advance as I assume others are as well but I seriously went to book today at 10am (the second August reservations went live) and I swear within seconds they were totally sold out at least on the earlier weekends. I did manage to get one at 12 on the day I wanted but it was the last ship outta Nam.

but my question is- is Cru popular because it’s a local staple or is this a result of tik tok/ influencer BS? Please let me know your thoughts :) I know it’s pricey which is ok as I have budgeted for some higher cost meals as we’d love to experience some beloved places! But if it’s just blowing up due to influencers or something I’d rather support another business and spread the love so to speak :) tbh I was not even aware of the influencer crap until this sub reddit but I have heard of some
Of them in general and agree that they’re terrible and are menaces to communities

thank you all in advance! I apologize if this is an ignorant question! This is my first time coming to Nantucket and it’s a bit difficult to get a feel for things without being there :)

Sugar Ray @ The Muse

I'm looking to buy 2 Tickets to the show tonight (Thursday, July 2nd). Anyone have tickets they'd like to part with or is there a resale site?

First visit was incredible

Just left after spending four days on your beautiful island. What a slice a paradise.

I especially loved that we rented bikes and biked to Sconset, Dionis and other beaches. The ability to hop on the Wave was a great perk too. If I had more time I would have biked to Cisco but I spent so much time wandering downtown on foot. I was struck by how undeveloped so much of the island is yet how high the real estate prices are. The bike ride from downtown to Sconset was through so much undeveloped land. It reminds me of Central Park in New York, where the real estate is worth so much money but they are holding firm and preserving the land.

Saw three incredible sunsets on three different parts of the island: Madaket, Galley Beach, and on the Endeavor.

Could not believe there was consistently a line outside of Dairy Boy. I'm 37 so maybe it's for people younger than me.

I loved the trip because you can make it as fancy or as laid back as you want. If you want to stay downtown and spend money and gawk at the yachts you can do that. Personally I preferred exploring the nature and history. I read 'In the Heart of the Sea' before my visit and it helped me learn the island's unique history. Captain Jim on the Endeavor was a great source of info as well.

I hope to go back soon, it's such a special place. Most everyone we met was kind though a lady did steal my sandwich at Born & Bread. Makes for a great story though.

I’m sorry

My family is coming out this week. With a car. I’ve already heard it’s a disaster this year in terms of crowds. Please make room when you see me coming, I expect nothing less.
