I built a free app for NZ families because I kept forgetting my wife's anniversary — the Waikato Times just wrote about it

A bit of a personal one to share.

I'm a Hamilton-based IT guy and I did what a lot of us do — forgot my wedding anniversary until the day before, panic-bought something generic, and had that very quiet dinner where everything is technically fine but also absolutely not fine.

So I built Cherish.

It's a free app that reminds you about birthdays, anniversaries, and occasions weeks before they happen — and then suggests personalised gift ideas from real NZ and AU stores (Farmers, Interflora, Noel Leeming, Myer, Pascoes and 400+ more). There's also an AI that writes personalised greeting cards that actually sound like you, not a template.

No ads. No subscriptions. Free forever. Works on Android (Google Play) and on iPhone via the web app at cherishapps.com.

The Waikato Times ran a piece on it last week:
https://www.waikatotimes.co.nz/nz-news/361031766/forgot-your-anniversary-theres-app-made-man-whos-done-it

Would love for some Kiwi families to give it a go and tell me what they think. It's built specifically for NZ and Australia so the stores and occasions (yes, Matariki is in there) are actually relevant to us.

cherishapps.com or search "Cherish gift reminder" on Google Play.

Happy to answer any questions — AMA about building an app while working full time as an IT Manager in Hamilton 😄

Good Op Shop Recommendations

Hey everyone! I am quite new here and need some expertise on where everyone finds the best brands of second hand clothing. I feel it's a good way to experiment your style of clothing and find some good options before getting serious about a timely piece. Also feel free to let me know some good shops which have more options for women's clothing.

Public transport reviews

How many people use the public transport to commute?
Is it clean and tidy? Runs on time?

New to town and would like to try use public transport instead of driving every where. The route I would take regularly is Beachville to Richmond, but curious about opinions around the city.
