20 Questions: Jake Johnson | The actor talks about the New Girl group chat, being a dad, and pickleball (Unpaywalled)

“I came up as a writer, and was always producing my own shows,” Jake Johnson says. The Chicago native earned an MFA in dramatic writing from the NYU Tisch Graduate program. For him, the entire project is “where my passion lies…. It’s more [about] making projects that I believe will work, that I’ll like to make, and that I think the audience that’s stuck with me now, almost 20 years, will also enjoy.”

Prioritizing creative experiences means that being number one on the call sheet is “totally irrelevant,” and has led to an eclectic resume that also includes the Spider-Verse/Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movies, Jurassic World,  the Mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise, and his 2023 directorial debut Self Reliance.

Now Johnson is starring in two new films. In the sports comedy The Dink (Apple TV July 24), he’s a once-promising tennis prodigy, who takes up pickleball to rehab his wrist at the suggestion of his sex-obsessed doctor (Ben Stiller). In writer-director Joe Swanberg’s The Sun Never Sets (in theaters August 28), he’s a divorced dad in a love triangle.

Here, the married father of twin tween daughters talks his tennis and pickleball prep, an on-going “beef” with New Girl castmate Lamorne Morris, his marriage of the minds with wife Erin, how his 12-year-olds updated his dad-rock playlist, and more.

Liz Meriwether has been on an absolute roll since The Dropout. Her new crime thriller is getting very positive reviews, and I can’t wait to see what she does with the Britney biopic

Metiwether’s new show is Furious. It debuts on Hulu on July 27, starring Emmy Rossum, Lola Petticrew, and Scoot McNairy.

Lamorne Morris (with Hannah Simone and Jake Johnson) is doing some puzzliiing!

This was a month ago. They looked so cute and happy in the celebrity wheel of fortune. Lamorne’s laugh reminded me of his Eddie Murphy impression. Winston Bishop is still in there shining!

Edit: The entire episode is available for streaming in Disney+ and Hulu if you guys want to watch it!

Where can I find Schmidt's Kimono !!

I love this Kimono and I found pictures but I can't find it anywhere. I only found one old link of an out of stock version and I'm wondering if it's truly not sold anymore or if it's just hard to find. Does anyone know if you can still buy it??

Schmidt's 2026 Prediction

I was watching S1 E23 "Backsliders" & noticed Schmidt tried to comfort a post-Russell depressed Jess who believes she's going to die alone by predicting she won't because we will all be immortal by 2026.

Just finished NewGirl for the first time great show question about the finale?

Just finished NewGirl for the first time great show! Questions about the finale?

*SPOILERS* Below!

One of the final scenes Nick's on the ground applying some creme to his foot? Looks like he has a bunch of cremes on the ground? I admit I was pretty drunk last night while we watched this. What was the meaning/point of this? Or was it just a joke that went over my head?

Also Nick then says we have one final thing to do before we move out and he says: "JFK and the rest say FDR" what was the meaning of this? Did I totally miss something here as well?

Thanks!
