Second Beach Scene

Second Beach today.

Kids drinking and fighting.

Cops come and arrest some kids. They get mobbed.

Some get arrested. Pepper spray deployed. Wind spreads it across large area.

Multiple towns respond.

Got this info from sitting and listening in the lot & a few kids walking by.

Was hanging with my kids having Del’s at surfers end and went down to see what the fuss was about.

Any recommendations for eyebrow threading?

I just moved here in March, but honestly might have decided against it if I’d done a search for threading places beforehand.

I work in Newport, live in Portsmouth, and the pickings look slim on Google. It also looks like a lot of options are off-island, so I’d appreciate any recommendations for where to go. Thanks!

Flo’s Oyster Bar

Went in today right at opening. Ordered food and went up to the raw bar, with a drink and plans to order more food. I went to pull out my knitting only to be told it wasn’t allowed. You’re not allowed to do anything that passes the time seemingly. No reading, crafting etc. I’ve never been talked down to like the bartender at Flo’s did. I was left in tears and decided to leave.

Newport affordable accommodation?

Hi all - looking to do a weekend in Newport with my mom as the cliff walk is on her bucket list! I know it’s an expensive area. Before I book a room in an Airbnb, anyone have any hotel or preferably B&B recs that won’t break the bank? I was looking at town and ride inn but they’re full! Ideally don’t want to spend more than $300 a night for a place max..preferably lower. Any ideas? I really want to make this trip happen for her without breaking my own bank in the process…thanks! We’re in NJ so we’ll save on the flight just driving up as well.

Open to Airbnb, B&B, or hotels recs. Thanks! FYI we have to go in June for 3 nights as that’s what our work allows for.

Young kid-friendly dining near the wharf?

The Discover Newport website wasn’t helpful for this and related reddit posts posts were old/non-specific.

First time Newport visitors. Two adults with a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old who are both very picky eaters and don’t do well sitting still in restaurants. On Friday June 5 we have a sailing trip booked and will be returning to the area around Bowen’s wharf around 5:00 p.m. What are some kid-friendly options nearby that don’t require getting in a car? I understand that there is a major sailing Regatta in Newport that will be coming in around the same time that day. Will that complicate things? I understand Friday after work is already going to be a busy time.

Thank you for any recommendations.

Breakers Mansion: Which Additional Tour

Hello! My mom, sister, and I are visiting Newport in June for four days and are planning to see two of the mansions one of them being The Breakers. We’ve never been to Newport so we’re excited!

I want to surprise them with one of the guide-led Tours of either Beneath The Breakers or Third Floor Preservation in Progress Tour.

Would anyone recommend one over the other? Or have any insights into either tour?

Thank you!

What parts of Newport are most distressed that are on public land? I’m looking to collect trash for the city to remove.

I’m looking to collect litter in distressed areas. The catch is they need to be public areas because I can’t afford to have the bags collected privately. Does anyone know of such locations that are heavily littered? Do you know if the state is helpful about having them collected?
